Dr Changing my meds yet again. He thinks it might be time to consider alternate treatments. He says Because i have the most severe form of Bipolar medication may no longer work no matter what combination he trys. He wants me to consider Electric Shock Therapy. He says it works miracles in arresting the symptoms of bipolar and would basically put me into a remission of my disease for maybe 9 months to a year then i would need to have more treatments. Not sure how i feel about having my brain fryed. i dont want to loose anymore brain cells. im already stupid enough as it is but the prospect of actually feeling normal is very appealing but im not 100 percent sold on the idea. im really hoping that he can just find a medication that will work.0 ·April 2012

RyGuyIt sounds dangerous but really one thing I cannot stand is hack psychiatrists tossing endless amounts of pills at people to solve problems...Nick you have to be open minded and tell him every bit of what your feeling and thinking. Maybe since your brain is developing more as your getting older the bipolar is getting worse? Idk if electroshock is the way to go or not though. It sounds painful :/ and makes me think of a Clockwork Orange :S

LizIf you don't mind me asking, Nick, which meds has he tried you on? I know that the most successful med they have out there for Bipolar is Lithium. I was wondering if you have tried that and how you reacted to it. I'm not sure about the electro-shock therapy because it's not something they use a lot today, so I just don't know much about it. I recommend this site http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/electroconvulsive-therapy/MY00129. I think that you should obtain as much information about it as possible and consult with your doctor about any questions you have. Education yourself and gathering questions are always good when it comes to your health. Best of luck, Nick. -

LizBeauty is in the eye of the beholder, Nick! And you aren't crazy! Bipolar is a genetic mental disorder. You may feel "crazy" but you aren't and you shouldn't categorize yourself as that. I know, I don't. Keep your head up :)
