Things cut out in the movie?

edited January 2009 in Movies
Hi everyone!
Even though the Harry Potter films are amazing and people are practicaly dying from the wait for the next film, does anyone feel a bit disappointed that the directors cut things out?
I understand that if they put every little detail into the films then the films would be a day long, but some things I think they should of kept in. Like why, in the Goblet of Fire, did Neville tell Harry Potter about Gillyweed, not Dobby. I was looking forward to seeing him again. And in the book, Barty JR (disguised as Mad-Eye Moody) said that Harry should of asked Neville how to breathe underwater because Neville had a book saying how, and not be so arrogant!
And plenty of other things as well.

Does anyone agree with me?

Actually, I don't. Those things you mentioned, along with most of the other stuff that's cut out, are massively unimportant to the overall story.

Dobby wouldn't have been reintroduced for a minute, that's just bad filmmaking, bringing back a character for such a brief amount of time and not taking them anywhere. Whereas, with Neville, they can utilize an actor they already have with them and they don't have to spend millions on CGI for him.
  • MMMM......Never thought of that!
Though I was lookin forward 2 seein Dobby again!
Thanx for leavin a comment Wilbo421!

He's definitley gonna be back in Hallows, btw. Whether it's both films or one, we don't know, but probably both, to build up his character for an emotional death.
  • Wilbo, Dobby is gonna be back in the HBP movie, too... remember that harry called him and Kreacher to spy Draco and report him? If they decide to cut that out, too, they'll have some serious problems introducing him when Harry calls him to help them in the last film...

No, he's not in HBP. Neither is Kreacher, they are both confirmed as cut. But Heyman has confirmed that they will bring Dobby back in Hallows and that they'll have to go about reintroducing his character carefully and they'll have to make more of him to get the full impact of his death.

There's a couple of ideas some of us over on IMDb have had as to how they can do this.

    1. Have Dobby be a servant at the celebration at the beginning and go on from there
    2. Have Dobby as Harry's source of knowledge and communication between himself, Ron and Hermione and Hogwarts.

I think both would work absolutley fine.

Kreacher will be easy to reintroduce.
  • Ah well, I love Kreacher :D Well, at least since the 7th book. Remember when he brought all the house elves in battle for Hogwarts? Battle for Regulus Arcturus Black and Harry Potter!
    I laughed my ass out...

And.. Btw, who's gonna play as The Dumbledore on film? Ariana? Aberforth? Kendra?

    I'm from England : )

Nothing's known about who's going to play The Dumbledores. We don't even know if Ariana, Aberforth or Kendra will be in. The most likely of the three is Aberforth who was protrayed by Jim McManus in the Order of the Phoenix, and he will be fine if they keep him.

Aberforth on Order of phoenix? Ah.. I should watch that again..
England.. Well. I always love England! :) i wish i have a chance to go there..

He's just an extras there. Isn't he? He wasn't introduced as Aberforth, right?

No, he was actually cast as Aberforth. Which is the weird thing. I don't think it was mentioned that Aberforth was the barman of the Hog's Head until Hallows, so how did they know that? They even had the whole goat reference which cracked me up XD
  • Lol...
I doubt that Kendra and Ariana will be a part of the movie; probably just mentioned like in the book.
And yeah, I suppose the same actor is playing Aberforth lol, unless he dies in the meanwhile, which I doubt.
  • Please, even if that is very interesting, can we all go back onto the subject?!
    LOL!
    :?

  • Yes,I agree with you Midnight...HP movies are really amazing,but...About 30% important things are changed or cut out...
  • Nothing important really, but I really wanted to see Nearly Headless Nick's Deathday party.
That would have been a great scene, just to get more of John Cleese in the films.

watched the movie...even wrote a review on it
    read it here:

in short, it was disappointing. i expected much more from the team. they left out a whole lot from what was written in the books. especially the fight for Hogwarts!

though david yates did a splendid job, it was disappointing nonetheless

guess i`ll just stick to the books for now...

Really? Millions in CGI for Dobby! You really don't have a clue what your talking about, do you? They're not asking Spielberg to make Dobby, they made him in part 2, why not just have the same crew that made him in part 2 make him for the rest of the movies? Its not that hard, Dobby is already in their software when they created him, if they want to they could just touch up a bit more on him. Millions of dollars, you're funny!

"Touching up" takes millions, you prat, especially to the extent Dobby would need it. And yes, they may have already got the model figured out, but actually animating him to do specific things still, funnily enough, takes people's time, and needs money. Try having a clue about the costs of CGI before you try to say I'm wrong.

Dude, I work in visual arts and effects and it does not take millions, really. You're being mislead. Alot of the people that says it costs millions to touch up, really are just pocketing the money. Visual arts directors and editors are on salary, we're not like actors/actress's that costs millions to appear in movies. It would cost millions to do a movie entirely in CG, but to have effects and CG characters, it would depend on how many, and one character, Dobby that doesn't appear much, wouldn't cost much. Not trying to be a prat, just informing you.

Unless you have Spielbergs team or Peter Jackson's team, then yes, they are quite expensive. But the ones that did HP, no not that expensive. Great cinematography though, in 5 and 6, I give Yates that.

Hmm, not sure I believe you. You do realise Spielberg uses Industrial Light and Magic, who do HP?

Tim Burke is the visual effects supervisor for all the HP movies (though they also use Industrial Light & Magic) and Nick Dudman is the make up and creature effects designer for all them as well and they know a lot of tricks and can do just about anything. Burke is an oscar winner for his work in Gladiator and Dudman has done alot of big movies, I'm a big fan of them both. Burke and Dudman are great, but they would not charge a ridiculous price as Spielberg would, though he uses IL&M also he does his visual effects differently and might I add, his way is very costly. Like I mentioned, one character to bring back and have him in CG, certainly not millions. He's not in the movie for long periods of times and appears and disappears. Its not like they are gonna have to touch up every scene in the movie just for him. He's just gonna be in a few had they done it.

  • Dobby's going to be in Deathly Hallows, right? He has to! He got killed! If they leave that part and the Hogwarts battle out, I swear I'm gonna sue them.
