I was hoping for a higher number too, but I'm still very happy how it did. Now all I want is that it grosses more than SS to become the highest-grossing HP film.
The estimates for each day are these: Fri-$61,150,000 Sat-$38,220,000 Sun-$25,750,000
That's great, although (and HarryJamesPotter will get pissed at me now) we still did not beat New Moon's record opening weekend, which means there goes our chance of having the highest opening weekend in November. That was our last chance.
But I do have to ask: it is only noon on Sunday here in the US west coast, so how do they know how much the film made when some shows haven't even started yet? Or do they just estimate the last couple million?
Here's hoping to Part 2 smashing the record next summer.
Yeah, many screenings are sold out by this time, and the rest are estimations. But that's how it works always. They always estimate a little before the end of the weekend.
Don't think they will update the data with the sales from the rest of the day, those are already estimated. They may update with the real sales, but it would not change that much.
There is only one chance of Part 2 having a chance at beating the record, and that is if (PLEASE) WB keeps the opening day on a Friday and DOES NOT push it up to Wednesday the 13th of July.
