I caught an early press screening for 'Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince, yesterday evening and i can say is 'wow'.

This is by far the most grown up film in the series, with some stellar performances from Michael Gambon, Daniel Radcliffe, Alan Rickman and Helen McCrory.

The film opens with explosive attacks on the mystical Diagon Alley and the Millennium Bridge and quickly moves onto Dumbledore and Harry's excursion to visit retired professor Horace Slughorn.

Jim Broadbent, the latest brit talent to emerge in the series, is suitably pompous and comedic in the role. Slughorns character is the catalyst for many of the events in the film, in which Harry finally discovers the weak link in Volemorts chain. Broadbent excels in bringing the tormented character to life, specifically the scene in which he finally discloses his true memory of meeting the young Voldemort.

Michael Gambon has finally settled into Dumbledores robes, ironic then that this his the film in which he plunges to his death. His relationship with Harry is one of the best parts of the movie.

Alan Rickman delivers a creepy turn as Proffessor Snape, who is a major player in the films spectacular climax.

Also special Mention goes to new addition Helen McCrory whose Narcissa Malfoy is truly operatic. As the tortured mother of Draco Malfoy she glides through her scenes with elegance and power.

Definitely worth a watch
