does this bother anyone else?
Hello,
I am new here, and there is something that bothers me in the movies, and I wonder
if this is annoying anyone else.
In the books witches and wizards know very little about muggle clothes,(going as far as
wearing a night dress,or a kilt and bowler hat...)yet in the films they seem
to be dressed as muggles most of the time?
I loved the books and enjoyed the movies, but yik,it kind of spoils things for me.

like wizards and more like everyday guys, and the thing I love most about H.P
is the whole differant world it takes us to,in the first film, when Harry discovers Diagon Alley,
it's completly wonderous in it's differance,I loved it
Dobby83, the only reason why there's been an increasing amount of non-uniform wearing is because as the stories go on, the more out-of-school-hours action takes place.
Outside of lessons in the first two, they wore muggle clothes as well.
I think the time for wonderous first impressions has gone. Harry, and we, are well settled into the world now. There are still a few "oo" and "ah" moments, but it's mostly about development now. And as we've seen, the only family who we've seen in muggle clothes outside of Hogwarts is the Weasleys (and Sirius and Lupin). Everyone else is still very much in wizarding robes.
It would annoy me, however, if they were ever to completely stop using robes. How it is, there are plenty, I think.
The reason for that is, Hermione was barely in the movie. All the non-school parts she wasn't in, but for Diagon Alley where she was wearing muggle clothes. And the parts where Harry and Ron wore muggle clothes at school Hermione wasn't in those parts. Like the forest and the car. The rest of the time she wore her robes because she only was in school durning the movie. Harry and Ron weren't just in school for some of the movie.
but maybe the younger generation have been more in contact with muggle world, that
would explain it I suppose.
But it is mostly the kids that wear muggle clothes, so maybe they think that muggle clothes r 'better' to wear around the house or something!
What do u think? :)
I bet they'll be wearing it in the whole movie too, though.
Wow, I never even thought of that! Very true, though. It is mentioned somewhere that children from wizarding famillies can get away with it - such as the Weasley's - as there is no way of telling specifically who casts any one spell, which is also implied in the second book/movie by the fact that they assume it is Harry who cast the levitation spell, as he was the only known magical being in the household.
also in GoF (the book)Hermione does lumos as well in the middle of the forest.
if fact I like it.
look at Philosopher's Stone, at the end when everybody is actually wearing how it is supposed, with hats and everything... honestly, they look ridiculous
wearing everydays clothing looks more real and update I think (although it the late '90 in the books :S)
"No story lives unless someone wants to listen. The stories we love best do lives in us forever.
So whether you come back by page or by big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home" -J.K Rowling.
I think they wanted to do an everyday look to young people, and a more medieval or 'magic' look to pure wizards or people who is deep into the magic world, such as mcgonagall, dumbledore, the malfoys, rita skeeter :S
