Most Emotional Moment In The Series (Movies)!

In my opinion, Cedric's demise was the most emotional moment (this includes Harry's parents and Cedric conversating Harry during the priori incantum, and Harry's triumphant arrival to the crowd with Cedric's body).
I only hope they give more attention to Albus's death, not to make it as plain as Sirius's!

There's one scene that strikes me as INCREDIBLY powerful and emotional. And that's the scene when Harry arrives back from the graveyard and just the way it turns from all the happy music and then people start to realise and mainly it's the way Cedric's dad reacts. That was some great acting on the part of not only Jeff Rawle, but Dan's acting wasn't amazingly shabby there either.

The most emotional scene for me was in The Order of the Pheonix when Harry is possessed by Voldermort. When he begins to fight back and we see flashbacks of his happiest moments throughout the years. I just think that it involves the audience in Harry's fight and it's really emotional.

Amos Diggory definitely, so much emotion from all.
  • I think the most Emotional moment is when Sirius dies, and it's in frame-by-frame of Harry thrusting toward him.

i believe that they must have given more attention at sirius death because he was like a father to harry and it s a very emotional scene..

Yes, the "my boy" line. Gets to me every time. Jeff Rawle did a pretty good job, I say.

That, like I said, is at the top of my list. But just below that, is not really Sirius' actual death...but what he says to Harry just before he dies: "Good one, James!" and Harry's reaction to that. That was, as little as it was, some brilliant acting on Dan's part. The last thing Sirius does is mistake Harry for his father. I was like "...ouch" in the theater lol. But I s'pose the fact that it's Harry's father kinda softened the blow (well it would have sucked a lot more if he'd said "good one, snape" lol).

Whatever, it was a brilliant line to add in, and it really confuses me how this freak, Drake, on the imdb HBP board thinks it's stupid and simplifies things. I don't really understand, though, how a line with with such implications can be considered "dumbing down" (in her words).

a very emotional scene is in the 6th book, when dumbledor says:
i am not afraid harry,i am with you!
that was the best i think...
    :/
  • RoupenRoupen Posts: 218
Yeah, but I can imagine Yates ruining that 1 for the movie.
    Damn!!!!!!!

how sad....they had squessed the best out of the books!!!!!
i am really mad about the books, but the movies...:/
  • there are 2 4 me, when harry is fighting against lupin after sirius died and harry was being possessed by voldemort tears were pouring out of my eyes

Wasn't anyone pissed Kloves had cut the Bartemius Crouch Sr. death scene in GOF?
I mean it was awesome when he pleads Harry and Victor to call Albus, and when Harry returns, Krum is severely beaten, and Crouch is gone.
Shame we didn't see that onscreen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Wilbo421Wilbo421 Posts: 1,157
Of course, that would have been cool, but I can easily see why it was cut. The way it was done worked fine.

Uh...at over two and a half hours, it was long enough. For kids anyway, and people who don't like sitting in theaters for very long.
  • Wilbo421Wilbo421 Posts: 1,157
Yeah, I so wish they would do that, but LotR was really big because a lot of adults had read it when they were kids. The LotR films weren't the films to take your fidgety five year old to.

Unfortunatley, some people believe HP is. They're gonna get a well-deserved shock when they see the cave scene. Mwahaha.

    yeah!!!
but who cares what they say?
after all,if they have a problem, then all they have to do is to not see it...
    for gods sake!!!
    we like it that way!!
    :D

"after all,if they have a problem, then all they have to do is to not see it..."

Well...I think that's the reason why they DO listen to what they say, lol
  • RoupenRoupen Posts: 218
    Yeah.
I only wish they don't cut violent moments to give it a PG-13 rating!

    Myrsini, why'd you say oops?
  • i cried at most films, sirius' death was bad for me, and when harry is possessed in 5th

I think that the most emotional scenes were:
1.The Return from the Graveyard: Jeff Rawle was extremely good and the entire atmosphere was sad and intense.
2.The End of GoF-Not Emma's awful lines but the entire feeling in the Great Hall, then the talk with Harry...it was melancholic and bittersweet.
3.Harry's Possession in OotP-That was a good scene, period. And I found Dan quite good in it.
4.Harry and Sirius talk in Grimmauld Place-It's nice, touching and moving.
5.Talk with Harry and Sirius in the end of PoA-It was nice and sad. Just this...simple but powerful.

I actually think that there are going to be three scenes from HBP which will top my list.
1.'I'm not worried, Harry...I'm with you' line is definitely in the film according to the script leaks and I think it will be moving .
    2.Dumbledore's Death scene-No comments.
3.When Harry and the rest of the others find Dumbledore's body...this will be the most emotional scene in the series, in my opinion. I think it will look like the 'after the Graveyard' scene with Cedric but it has to be even sadder.

We'll see, though. But I'm optimistic about the climax of the film. It has to be a magnificent combination of action (Cave,Inferi,Battle at Hogwarts castle and grounds), darkness/seriousness (Draco,Dark Mark etc.) and powerful emotions (Dumbledore's Death, the confrontation with Snape)...
so I wish that everything will live up to my expectations. It's the most powerful climax in the series except DH (with GoF coming close at the third place, then PoA, then OotP and then the two first books) so it has to be amazing.

    harry seeing sirius die.
  • AlonseRAlonseR Posts: 19
Yeah Sirius' was short but Cedric's wasn't great. When Harry brought his body back it was very emotional by everyone's reactions i.e. Fleur's reaction was brilliant as was Amos but Harry completely ruined it by the worst on screen crying I've ever seen. It made me laugh how there were no tears and completely lacked any sort of emotion.
  • AlonseRAlonseR Posts: 19
Yeah I think the Dumbledore death scenes, before and aftermath will be sad if Radcliffe can live up to it. Also, Snape's death will be quite sad, particuarly if they include "Look at me..." in the script.
  • TomRiddleTomRiddle Posts: 175
    "severus.. please"

Along with the argument they have beforehand about Snape not wanting to do it. Harry chasing Snape and trying to curse him. Snape pretending to be evil.

    Can't wait for HBP.

A BIG concern of mine is the cutting of Trelawney. They missed out explaining about her making the Prophecy in the Hog's Head in OOTP so they could explain that quickly in HBP before Harry and Albus leave for the cave. Also it puts more doubt on Snape's motives.
  • I think the top three most emotional moments is when:

Harry returns Cedic's body to Hogwarts, and Cedric's dad's reaction (in the film)

When Harry says goodbye to the Dursleys (in the book. I don't know, it made me cry for some reason.)

When Fred, Lupin and Tonks die (in the book)

Those bits always make me cry. )'':

Oh, I thought the Harry-Sirius talk in Order was pretty good for emotions.

Well After the Sirius death, their was no musical score at all which kind of ruined it for me!

You mean during Sirius' death? The music comes in after. And I thought it was a brilliant choice to remove the music at that point. Most deaths like that have way more effect, IMO.

    OK Let's see:

Dead Man Walking death scene : Musical Score ... Check!
Titanic death scene : Musical Score ... Check!
The Green Mile death scene : Musical Score ... Check!

See it's the score that makes the death scenes so emotional!

Nicholas Hooper is not a good enough composer for Harry Potter, he fails at producing scores where it counts, he couldnt even do a score for the dumbledore/voldemort battle because he couldn't come up with anything, he should stick to tv and yates should put the film first instead of friendship.

I would have to severely disagree on that. Though Nicholas Hooper is my least favourite composer to have worked on the franchise, I am willing to give credit where it's due. And I think that the score was excellent. Not as amazing as the others, but still more than good enough.

Certain scenes were made incredibly poignant and beauitful because of Hooper's choices. Such as, IMO, Sirius' death, the conversation Sirius and Harry have at Grimmauld place and of course the posession scene. I have yet to speak to a person who hasn't said how perfect the music is over the possession scene.

This is my opinion on the scores:

PS and COS: John Williams, I'm afraid, at his worst. The scores are still damn good, but they are loud and in your face with little or no subtlety, especially where it's called for. That I am putting down as Columbus' fault though because of course the director does have a say and an effect on how the score's produced, and the score matches perfectly the garish simplicity of the first two films. And also because of:

PoA: This, IMO, is Williams' best work on any movie. The soundtrack for this was just beautiful, and not the typical Williams affair. Which is not necessarily an insult to his other work, as I am a big fan of his other stuff.

GoF: The second best score, IMO. Reflects the epic-ness of the movie. Very memorable soundtrack.

The main problem I have with Hooper's soundtrack is not that he didn't put music where it needed to go, or vice versa, or that he even wrote music that was wrong for it's respective scenes. Because I think he did all of that absolutley fine. My problem is the lack of memorable material, lack of material that leaves an impression. I'm not saying there wasn't any, the ones that stuck out most and that I would be able to hum to you after I walked out of the cinema were Fireworks, Professor Umbridge and Possession.

And Roupen, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying death scenes don't work with music. I'm saying they can and do work, SOMETIMES better without. It can, as i've already said, make it more poignant. It can, when there's been powerful, loud music with a sudden cut off, as it did in this, feel like a smack over the head. A shock, a surprise whatever have you. IMO, it worked, in yours it didn't. But it is a technique widely used across the music and film industry and one which I think can be used to it's full effect when you have a death scene on your hands.

OK, but I think PS has the best score (Hello Oscar Nomination!)
  • Wilbo421Wilbo421 Posts: 1,157
pfft, PS and COS's scores are my least favourite. PoA's was way better, IMO
  • Wilbo I love you, you are totally right about everything.

I adore the POA score, it's so fresh (like most things were when POA came out) and Williams seems to have used all these mad ancient instruments to make these sounds that just correspond with everything else in the film. My favourite on the soundtrack is Buckbeaks flight, gives me goosebumps when I watch the scene, I also adore Secrets of the Castle and the Portrait Gallery.

Btw Wilbo, you're British like me right? Since Dawn Frech made an amazing fat lady, did you also imagine Jennifer Saunders as her friend Voilet? Getting drunk together in the monk's portrait. Sorry, I've been dying to ask someone that for ages, I just kept forgetting.

The part in the Sorcerer's Stone when Hermione says "Books, cleverness. I have more important things like friendship and braver."

The part in Prisoner Of Azkaban when Sirius is talking to Harry "It's cruel that I got to spend so much time with James and Lily and you so little. But remember this, the one's that love us never really leave us." (I cried.)

Also the part on the bridge when Harry and Lupin talked.

In Goblet of Fire when Harry brought Cedric's body back.

In Order Of The Phoenix when Sirius died and Lupin was holding Harry. Also both times Sirius talked to Harry at the train station and in Grimmauld Place next to the tree.

Nothing really in Chamber Of Secrets. Maybe when Hermione got petrified.

Yes, I love the change in the style from PS/CoS to PoA. The first two had such...I don't know, American music. But like you said, PoA's soundtrack felt sort of ancient, organic and completely natural. And it was gorgeous.

I didn't actually, I didn't really picture anyone specific. But if they were ever to bring the Fat Lady in again, with Violet, Jennifer Saunders should DEFINITLEY play Violet. It's the perfect match, LOL

Of Course Cedric's Death is the best 1!
  • [quote=Roupen]Nice choices Harry James Potter!

    Thank you so much.
  • There was alot of very emotional scenes. But the one that got me was when Harry and Sirius were in The tapestry room and Sirius said "You'll see once this is over we'll be a proper family again."
It's so sad because you know that by reading the books they wont be a proper family again.

And when Sirius is over looking the lit up Castle in Azkaban with Harry next to him and He's telling him that he wishes he could walk back through their a free man.

And of coarse when he dies.
I cried and cried and cried and cried when he died.
  • when sirius dies tht is the most emotional scene because of the way it goes in to slow motion and you dont need sound to know how much pain he is going through.
  • No one has mentioned the part of COS when harry finds ginny in the chamber , and when the baselisk poisons him and fawkes the phoenix cies on it and heals it .
  • Wilbo421Wilbo421 Posts: 1,157
...because it was very poorly pulled off and not sad in the slightest. At least IMO
