Hey, anyone wanna tell me why my comments on a discussion forum are being deleted?? are people mad that i'm upset these new films are making what looks like zero attempt at diversity. like if you're gonna delete them, why don't u message me

Because you sound like a racist moron, like the ones in Ohnotheydidnt. What did you expected? To Newt being blue? The movie takes place in NYC during the 20's, and there's no mention of Newt's looks in the books.

I sound like a racist against... who exactly? White people? NYC during the '20s was literally a hub of racial diversity (and remains to this day, though moreso) so not sure what you're talking about...ever heard of Ellis Island?

No, I do not expect him to be blue, because blue people don't exist. Nonwhite people do however, so I'm not sure what your angle was there. Oh, yes I do it was a cheap, overused jab.

"There was no mention of Newt's looks in the books" ...so apparently that makes him white automatically. I'm not just talking about him either, there are 3 supporting cast members with 3 actors announced as being considered are white.

"This movie should have some people who are not white too in the main cast" "racist!" lmao

Thrilled that Eddie Redmayne will be starring in Fantastic Beasts. He'll be a perfect Newt Scamander!

If Jo thinks he'll be great, then I am sold.

Agree with this 150%. I am really hoping that there is some form of Diversity in these films. Yony I dont want to be that guy but reverse racism doesn't exist in sociological terms. I hope these movies have some strong female characters or something! The world in the 30s especially New York wasnt some white washed wasteland, it was a melting pot of all cultures and backgrounds. Ive got my fingers crossed for this. Also the candidates for Newt's rival look so goofy. Im not sure if its a main villain role or not it is too early to tell but hopefully the villain isn't underwhelming.

Sometimes I wonder if @TheDoctor and I were separated at birth due to our views and thoughts on things haha

Let me get this out of the way first. Jo has stated that Newt will only be briefly in New York at the beginning of the movie, and then will fly back to London.

Now, I have read several comments by people on FB who were upset that a white actor was cast in the role of Newt. Most of them have said it was because Jo had stated that Rolf Scamander was swarthy-looking, so they expected Newt to be the same. These people didn't even think to consider that Newt's son would marry a black woman and that is how Rolf would get his dark skin.

That would be nice if they incorporated that into the film. I agree on the location, I wonder where it could end up. It would be nice seeing other countries Wizard World perspectives in some of the films. Personally Id love to see some in Africa or the Middle East - possibly China as well. I wonder if Quidditch will be in these films too...too many questions and not enough answers for now :)

Seeing how this is supposed to be a trilogy, they could possibly have something about it at the end of the last one.

I think it would be kinda fun to end the trilogy with the Scamanders and Lovegoods at Rolf and Luna's wedding.

That would be lovely, Eddie in old age make up and by 2020 Evana will look old enough to believable play the part.

Tbh I don't care about the race or diversity of the actors.

Just give me the BEST possible actors. Idgaf if he's white black asian cherokee w.e as long he can act.

Oooh that'd be interesting. I'd like that. I'm liking the cast so far
  • PotterirelandPotterireland Posts: 80
Main cast of characters seem to be Newt, Tina, Queenie and Kedan with Jacob as the villain-type comedy role.

This is all such a big wild card, but I'm beyond excited.

Singer Alison Sudol joins Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Sudol will play Queenie, one of two sisters — along with Katherine Waterston’s Tina — who meet Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) in New York.

Dan Fogler is Jacob. Casting is complete for leads. I hope they get to Comic Con on Saturday! :)

I hope they do. Also, I'm glad they're casting less known actors.
  • PotterirelandPotterireland Posts: 80
It may sound weird but they feel like Harry Potter actors if you know what I mean. Somehow it feels appropriate that they are lesser known. At this stage are we expecting Alexander Desplat to come back for the score?

I don't think John Williams would ever return but if Nicholas Hooper returned it would be total bliss for me as he was my favourite composer from the films.

It's worth noting that like the good old days WB have sent audition notices to the fansites. We are getting a main character that is appearing to be a British little girl called Modesty, perhaps a new Hermione type character?

Also as the casting call States the filming will take place in August to January so it's all starting so soon, I hope they do some filming on location and we get to see set pictures. Also hope that ITV are involved in the making of again and we get to see a new Behind the Magic before next year.

Ya I totally get what you mean by they feel like Harry Potter actors. They have this vibe to them like the original actors did (btw POA's trailer just played as I typed this)

I was a little worried (and half joyful) when Kate Upton was considered for a role. LOVE her and she is a babe but I dunno if she goes with Harry

As well is it still confirmed that they are making 3 movies instead of one? Because Warner announced a trilogy but David Heyman later said that it would just be one movie
  • PotterirelandPotterireland Posts: 80
There are new pictures on Twitter that show three new sets being built in Leavesden. Given that this shoots in August I think it's safe to assume they are from the film.

I like the idea of Modesty. And really, I like this cast so far. The most recent Mugglecast speculated that over the films we might see Scamander get married, which I think is great. The one thing I hope this film succeeds at his character. I have full faith in JKR as far as that goes.

I thought Porpentina should have been black especially as her Grandchildren are "swarthy" that may mean that Newt and Tina's children may have married a black spouse though.

That was really surprising. Seeing Colin going from True Detective to this. And it's ironic, because they choose a irish actor to play a american wizard, when the film seemed a opportunity to get american actors, and I'm sure some of them wanted to get involved in the HP films (like Robin Williams).

    thewrap.com/j-k-rowlings-fantastic-beasts-casts-brooklyn-actress-jenn-murray-exclusive/

Curiously, Miller said he's not playing anyone in the film, so Jenn's role might not be confirmed. Given her looks and being from Ireland, she could play a older relative of Luna :)
  • PotterirelandPotterireland Posts: 80
Props to the Irish casting representing the Emerald Isle. :)

Also according to IMDB Colleen Atwood is going to be the costume designer this really excite me because I thought that Jany Temime tamed the costumes in the later films and Colleen is known for intricate other worldly designs so I expect to see some epic Wizarding costumes. I always loved the costume from the first film especially the stuff in Diagonal Alley they were truly magical.

    Filming starts today!!!

Here's a full press release from WB (which includes all the cast & crew).

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures’ highly anticipated feature “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The all new adventure is set in the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling in her best-selling Harry Potter books, which were adapted into the highest-grossing film franchise of all time.

Filming started today, August 17, at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four “Harry Potter” feature films.

Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) stars as Newt Scamander, the wizarding world’s preeminent magizoologist, who stops in New York following his travels to find and document magical creatures.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” also stars Katherine Waterston (“Inherent Vice”) as Tina; Alison Sudol (“Dig,” “Transparent”) as Tina’s sister, Queenie; Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”) as Jacob; Ezra Miller (“Trainwreck”) as Credence; two-time Oscar nominee Samantha Morton (“In America,” “Sweet and Lowdown”) as Mary Lou; Jenn Murray (“Brooklyn”) as Chastity; young newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty; and Colin Farrell (“True Detective”) as Graves.

Marking the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, the script was inspired by her character Newt Scamander’s Hogwarts textbook, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The film is being produced by David Heyman, producer of all eight of the blockbuster “Harry Potter” features; J.K. Rowling; Steve Kloves; and Lionel Wigram.

Collaborating with Yates behind the scenes are: Oscar-winning director of photography Philippe Rousselot (“A River Runs Through It,” the “Sherlock Holmes” movies), three-time Oscar-winning production designer Stuart Craig (“The English Patient,” “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Gandhi,” the “Harry Potter” films), three-time Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (“Chicago,” “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Alice in Wonderland”), Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Tim Burke (“Gladiator,” the “Harry Potter” films), Oscar-nominated visual effects supervisor Christian Manz (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1”), and Yates’ longtime editor Mark Day (the last four “Harry Potter” films).

Warner Bros. Pictures has slated “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” for worldwide release in 3D and IMAX on November 18, 2016.

Wish the video was better quality the costumes in this are so important to me. I never really liked 1920s style I always thought it was very bland so I am excited to see what the WizardingWozarding interpretation is.

I'm also very excited to see what do they come up with in regards of the customs! And since Colleen Atwood will be the one in charge of those customs I feel like they are in good hands.

I'm just so excited about this finally actually happening! The next few months are going to be great.
