I'd honestly like to see J.K Rowling attempt to direct. That way we know that we'd be seeing the movie the way that she wanted it to be seen.
That would be like throwing someone who can't swim into the ocean. What does she know about framing, pacing, directing actors etc? Directing is a skill like any other.
And what does she knows about screenwriting? Nothing. Still, Rowling is doing the script. And there's actors who didn't know anything about direction and have turned into well established directors.
In Hollywood and modern cinema, talent have come from the strangest and most humble places. The two most sucessful horror films from 2013 (Mama and Evil Dead) we're written and directed by latinamerican directors with small experience in those ranges (Evil Dead's director was chosen from a short film he filmed and posted on Youtube).
Most of the young HP actors never acted, except in school plays. Bonnie has turned into a established director and writer. Evanna will be producing one of her next proyects.
The main actors from Life Of Pi and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and the main pirate of Captain Phillips came from interesting places. Hell, Jennifer Lawrence has an Oscar, she's able to do any character, and she never did any drama school.
The guy from District 9, Sharlto Copley, improvised most of his lines and it was his first feature. Johnny Depp did his film debut on Nightmare at Elm Street because the director's daughter liked him and asked to her dad to have him in the film. The point is, talent can't be teached, or learned.

There are. But keep in mind that those actors have been working on film sets and with experienced directors for years. Rowling has no such experience. She has never made any short films or expressed a passion for filmmaking like those latinamerican directors who directed Mama and Evil Dead.
That said, Rowling might have a talent for directing. Who knows? But for one person who succeeds against odds, how many do you think fail? Life is unfair; for every famous person who gets the chance to direct simply because they are famous without any consideration as to whether they can direct, there are thousands of talented people out there who never break through. If Rowling has a talent for directing, fine, but she would never need to prove herself.
The point is, talent can't be teached, or learned.
Talent is one thing, but experience is far more important. No one is at the top of their game before they even start. To claim otherwise is to deny the possibility of improvements.
You guys want Rowling to direct this? I do get that you'd like to see Rowling's vision in its entirety, but do you think she would be able to pull it off the way she envisioned it without the experience and passion for filmmaking? I think it would be extremely risky to let her direct such a big project. It would be wiser of her to start off with something smaller, but then I doubt she actually has any directorial ambitions at all.
Enough of trying to relate Cuaron with HP. He did one film, the others (except Newell) did at least two. He got off from GOF because POA exhausted him, and that one wasn't as big as the last five films.
Even if Cuaron accepts, he has other proyects to take care of. It took seven years for him to do Gravity after Children Of Men.
Del Toro might be a good choice, but like Yates, he gets involved in lots of proyects that go nowhere. And Pacific Rim was a flop in the US.
The best idea is having someone new, who can have a good relationship with Rowling, and who actually knows about the HP books and films. This franchise has a lot of potential. Having the HP world on a american setting during the 20's asks for someone different.
I will not quit relating Cuaron to HP. It's actually probable he will be hired again considering he recently worked with Heyman on Gravity. Your claims that he got off from GOF because PoA exhausted him is not correct.
I think the chances of Alfonso directing isn't merely an idea that many fans fantasize about, I think it's more likely than people may think. Think about it, he hinted a few months ago about a desire to return to that universe and then there's the link above that Aaron mentioned. David Heyman is producing and they have just formed an even stronger friendship through Gravity, and Heyman will definitely have an important role in choosing who gets the job. JK Rowling was very pleased with what he brought in POA. He's now highly respected after POA, Children of Men and Gravity all consecutively. It might just come down to Alfonso himself saying yes and whether he really has a strong desire to return to this world, especially after the success he has had with Gravity.
In terms of actors out there British and now American who do you think would fit into this film.
I would love to see Tracy Ullman in the role of Newt's mother, she just seems to be able to pull off that batty, warmth that a Hippogriff breeder would have.
Stanley Tucci would make a pretty awesome Wizard maybe a college at the Ministry.
I wonder if she will be included in the film, would they have an American Minister for Magic?
If Newt is shown in the British Ministry it would probably feature her somewhere. I hope we see some of the ministry in the movie. I also wouldn't mind seeing a little of Newt's Hogwarts days maybe in flashbacks.
I think these people need to stop asking any of the old main cast members whether or not they will be apart of FBAWTFT. It's old news. Obviously, that's a stretch unless they play different characters or cameos. But even that's a bit much too ask.
Warner Bros. has dated J.K. Rowling’s first installment in the Harry Potter spinoff trilogy “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” for Nov. 18, 2016.
“Fantastic Beasts” becomes the first title on the date — two days before Lionsgate opens “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2″ as the final film in that franchise.
Warner Bros. topper Kevin Tsujihara revealed in March that the studio was following in the footsteps of “The Hobbit” franchise with three “megamovies” for “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”
Tsujihara persuaded Rowling last year to revive the Harry Potter movie magic by adapting her Hogwarts textbook “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” for the big screen. Rowling wrote the 54-page book in 2001 between publication of the fourth and fifth Potter books.
Set initially in New York about seven decades before the start of the Harry Potter story, the films will follow magizoologist Newt Scamander. They’re not prequels or sequels, but an “extension of the wizarding world.”

Wait, Mockingjay Part 2 is 2015 right?
Yeah, Variety must have been in a rush to break the news they forgot to fact check.
I'm happy to be able to say that, with a release date set, we can now really begin to anticipate our return to Jo's wizarding world, the Harry Potter universe. As for who directs, I would love to see Alfonso Cuarón return.
I think the release date is great. It gives the filmmakers that will be behind this plenty of time to make things right and assure fans a great start to what hopes to be a thrilling trilogy. I'm sure there'll be another big film that will compete with it around the same release date but I believe whatever it is, Fantastic Beasts will be the stronger force.
The film, which will be very loosely based on Rowling's universe-expanding textbook about magical creatures, will be set in the wizarding world. It will feature creatures and characters both new and familiar to Potter fans and, promises Rowling, will be "neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world" set 70 years before Harry sets foot in Hogwarts. That puts the setting somewhere around 1921, when Magizoologist and credited author of the book Newt Scamander would have been about 24 according to in-world chronology.
That put the action during the "années folles" Crazies years : Charleston's time and prohition in USA, may be Newt will me Al Capone lol
I am so excited now! It's so close to reality and it means that we will soon get news. I expect this will start filming a year prior like the previous films or maybe they will film them back to back and start on them sooner. I expect to hear some interesting announcements surrounding the film in the coming months!

Actually, back in 2006, he embraced the idea of returning to the Potter universe to direct:

Apparently he expressed some interest in directing Deathly Hallows as well, but that's more of a rumor.

I could imagine someone like Imogen Poots as Porpentina and perhaps an old American thespian actor or the villain.

Perhaps David Yates returns? What are you guys thinking right now?

But seriously, this is great, the news. I don't care about him, the director, but thank the dark lord Jo wrote it, the script.
