This freaking internet is being stupid and I have missed the past half an hour. I'm just gonna stop watching now and watch a replay on TV later tonight.
Just saw the 'In Memoriam' section on a TV in McDonalds. Wow, there were so many familiar people in there this year. It's sorta sad. Usually they're just nobodys to me. I completely forgot that Stephenie McMillan passed away.
Frozen performance was so good. God that woman can sing! That last note was definitely scratchy, but let's just appreciate how difficult that note is. The performance was so amazing though!
Anyways, it was obvious 12 Years was going to get the gold weeks ago. With such a competitive year with such fantastic films, it was always going to be a split on the big awards. I definitely think 12 Years deserved the big prize but Gravity certainly deserved all it's seven awards. Pleasant surprise that Her won Original Screenplay as well! Only disappointment for me is The Wolf of Wall Street not winning Adapted Screenplay IMO.
Hey, out of the 21 categories I predicted a month and a half ago, I only got four wrong! (Documentary, Production Design, Costume Design, and Editing) That's not too shabby. 80.9% accurate.
Best Picture: 12 Years a Slave Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron Best Actor: Matthew McConaughey Best Actress: Cate Blanchett Best Supporting Actor: Jared Leto Best Supporting Actress: Lupita Nyong'o Best Original Screenplay: Spike Jonze (Her) Best Adapted Screenplay: John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) Best Animated Feature: Frozen Best Foreign Language Film: The Great Beauty Best Documentary Feature: 20 Feet From Stardom Best Original Score: Steven Price (Gravity) Best Original Song: Let It Go, Frozen Best Sound Editing: Gravity Best Sound Mixing: Gravity Best Production Design: The Great Gatsby Best Cinematography: Emmanuel Lubezki, Gravity Best Makeup and Hairstyling: Dallas Buyers Club Best Costume Design: The Great Gatsby Best Film Editing: Mark Sanger and Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity) Best Visual Effects: Gravity
Mad props to @fawke83 for 100% accurately predicting the whole damn thing though. B-)
I really did expect Gravity to win Best Picture, but if any other film were to win, I expected it to be 12 Years a Slave, and I'm fine with that. Alfonso Cuarón won Best Director, obviously, and rightly so. I was hoping for Leonardo DiCaprio to finally win Best Actor, but what Matthew McConaughey put into his role shows that he probably deserved it more than anyone this year.
