Lionsgate's sequel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire topped the Friday box office with a historic $70.5 million, one of the biggest opening-day grosses of all time in North America and putting the sequel back on course to match the $152.5 million earned by the first film in March 2012.

I don´t care how much this makes. This movie is perfect. Saw it again yesterday with friends. They all were amused, fans or not. They praised it
(And it´s not like they won´t make MJ 1&2 already)

I'm definitely in the minority thinking THG was better than CF... I was more surprised during THG and left the theater personally affected.... I felt so stale after seeing Catching Fire :-S

My favorite scene in the series remains Seneca Crane solemnly walking up to his demise, staring at the berries as the flashback music from 'Hanna' plays in the background with Haymitch starting his VoiceOver. That and the emotion as they got on the train for the first time while that AMAZING piece of music played.

I was glad that Train cue got played twice in Catching Fire.

However, I will be watching it again Sunday night without my sick girlfriend so it could be that I enjoy it much more this time.

Smart, smoothly directed, and enriched with a deeper exploration of the franchise's thought-provoking themes, Catching Fire proves a thoroughly compelling second installment in the Hunger Games series.

Ok.....wow. I saw the movie thursday night (my local theater had a showing at 8 :) ) and i am just now getting to post on here. This was the best movie i've seen in 2 years by far. I thought it was way better than the first movie, with the perfect mix of romance, action, humor, and suspense. Jennifer Lawrence was absolutely PERFECT. In my opinion, it was a perfect representation of the book and everything that was changed or added just made it better :) i need to see it again....multiple times

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has earned $64 million dollars internationally, giving it a current worldwide gross of $134.5 million. The film's worldwide box office gross could well eclipse the $200 million mark by weekend's end.

Saw it again, still really liked it. District 11 and the Victory Tour montage is probably my favorite part of the movie.

The things I loved about it:

[Spoiler] I loved how in the beginning Katniss shoots at a chicken and she sees a vision of shooting that tribute. Also how Rues family, the father isnt there. In the first movie, The first guy to rebel was rues father (Im assuming) and I loved how they only show the mother there with her other children. The scene where Snow announces the return of the victors, how they show all 3 of them watching in seperate locations and Jennifers acting WOW. The floating Cube counting down. Plutarch commanding in the games, love how everyone standing waiting for him. Snows grandaughter Im hoping we see more of Snows family in Mockingjay. The huge blisters forming up. Mags was one of my favorites I feel for her and I love that whole training sequence. How johannas all bitchy and her cursing. 3 f bombs if they werent cut out (including finnicks). The ending, Katniss expressions and "YOU SON OF A BITCH" [Spoiler/]

I love the score. It feels so much more complex than the first, which only really had a few tracks that stood out as truly remarkable (Rue's Farewell, Horn of Plenty, etc). But this one is just fantastic. I really love the theme for Katniss.

And the mix is much more better (the choir is audible, the electronics doesn't overwhelm the orchestra). Given how Ross treated the music on the first film and the fact that he fired Elfman, who according to T-Bone Burnett, wrote beautiful music for the film, you can tell that JNH was very limited.

James wrote 80 minutes of music for THG in just three weeks, and it took 4/5 weeks to write wrote King Kong and Waterworld, which turned out to be great scores.

Speaking of which, I did a mock-up of an alternate version of Teneous Winners from the sheets by using East West Colossus:

I am curious to hear what Elfman did write, but at the same time, I'm very happy Howard got the job. I've not been very impressed with Elfman's work over the last few years, and Howard's scores in recent years have been my favourites. Lady in the Water, The Village, Snow White, Dinosaur, all incredible. I'm keen to see what he brings with Maleficent.

What I'm glad is that James finally has a sucessful franchise for himself. Zimmer took all the attention of the Batman scores, when James's themes we're the heart of them (even Nolan tracked some of his cues on TDKR).

I think JNH was the right choice!! His music really stood out more on CF though, and JL direction is even darker and more cruel than GR's
I can only cry to imagine where this combination duo can do with MJ films
I wont be abble to handle all the emotion! :(

Since the director said he cut 40 minutes of footage, I hope they make an extended version for the blu-ray.

What are your guys favourite scenes?

    Here's my top 5:(SPOILERS)

    [spoiler]
    5. Tour Montage - From District 11 onwards, I absolutely loved it. Sets up well for Mockingjay.
    4. Beach Scene between Peeta and Katniss.
    3. Let the Games Begin. From just before she goes into the tube until they run into the forest. It's extremely intense. I love the score, the countdown, the action, and the emotion as she goes up the tube.
    2. District 11. So tense. Absolutely haunting. Her speech is beautiful and what follows is one of the most emotionally intense moments of the film.
    1. The Climax. From the moment she kisses Peeta goodbye until pretty much the end of the movie. My specific favourite part being the 'Let it fly', 'Remember who the real enemy is' and her letting the arrow fly into the arena, and then watching it crumble. Absolutely beautiful.

P.S. I can't seem to work spoiler tags on my phone, so if someone feels the need to put spoiler tags can they please do it? :)

I watched the film with my family two nights ago, and it's still fresh in my mind. Catching Fire in my opinion is superior to the first film. The acting was improved, the filming and effects were improved; everything was so emotional and dark. Kudos to Francis Lawrence for adapting the book so well. :x

Honorable mentions: Cornucopia spinning and conversation with Prim.

    In no particular order:

    [spoiler]
-While Katniss and Gale are hunting in District 12 before the tour, when she hits an animal with her arrow but hallucinates and sees one of the dead tributes from the last game being hit instead. It was a great way of showing how she's struggling to cope with the events that took place in the arena.
-Effie Trinket calling Katniss's name during the reaping and trying to give her a reassuring smile which fails to hide how she feels. :((
    image
-Johanna swearing on live TV as she insults the Capitol, and later all of the tributes holding hands.
-The poisonous smoke sector of the arena (I thought that was filmed brilliantly), and the zone filled with the mutated birds that imitate the tributes's relative's voices. Watching the birds swarm around Katniss and hearing Prim's cries from all corners of the cinema was intense and emotional.
-Katniss destroying the arena with the arrow and watching the hovercraft pick her up as everything falls apart behind her.

-When the announce they returning to the arena
    -the reaping
-Johanna in the elevator and insulting was really funny
-First time we see the arena in Imax and the countdown
    -the spinning cornocopia
-mag was so sweet seeing her dying in the fog was sad :( (PS: I don't recall she can't talk?)
-shooting the shield and destroyed I was fuck yeah capitol in your face!)
-the ending with gale saying district 12 is gone

Like I said before I wish they showed us the district 12 it will have been even better ending cliffhanger lool :)

I think that the 40 min that were cut, that part of that will find its way into Mockingjay.

The movie was surprisingly good. I was very impressed with the directing, some very nice style. Not at all really what I felt or saw in my mind while reading the book, but good nevertheless.

The characters and acting were great. Johanna was so my favorite.

I think my favorite lines of the whole movie were..

    "A wedding dress? Really?"
    "Snow made me wear it."
"... Make him pay for it."

I don't know why. Malone played the part perfectly.

My friend Corey and I were two giddy Catholic school boys at the scene. :P

And when gale kisses Katniss, Corey turned to me and whispered "Jake. I would give my left testicle to kiss her." Hahahahaha.
