I'm not able to firmly believe in anything I hear since I haven't played the game myself. Even so, most of what I've heard has been positive, with references only to AC3 in saying this is far better.
Josh IGN has given like every AC game a mid-8 score and Call of Duty 9's so I don't really listen to them, if it's good its good, the only reason I'd every be worried if it dropped into mediocre like a 5.
So Ubisoft is seriously a bunch of trolling bastards.
No spoilers, but there are mentions in the game to just about every fucking goddamn location ever rumored for an AC game making predicting AC5 just about impossible.
Then again, tell me 1 person that predicted black flag...
I went to a gaming event not long ago where I got to see AC4 in action; there was a representative from Ubisoft there, and yes, he trolled us. He told us that he knew where the next AC would take place, and that it will be awesome, but he didn't say where or why.
I expect a good few predicted Black Flag. The naval gameplay was never going to be brought in for a singular game.
This is the Kenway trilogy. Edward has Black Flag, Haytham has Forsaken, and Connor has AC3.
I too want the French Revolution, and I was always thinking AC4 would be it, but I can't see it happening now since they have completed the trilogy. I'm sure Connor would have to be the man involved, but that goes against what we've heard.

Lord Stafford.
I want French Revolution as well, but if it happens I don't think Connor would be main character.
Minor spoiler from abstergo emails:
It showed the possible locations, and listed French Revolution under Desmond's maternal ancestry and American Revolution under Desmond's paternal ancestry, showing that Connor was Bill's ancestor and that Desmond has a different ancestor key in the French Revolution
I don't think ninja will happen or anything Asian, Ubi said they don't want to play the ninja card and have tons of locations and time periods they could do instead.
I'm a big fan of naval. I didn't really do the naval missions in AC3, but yesterday I checked the time, it was 6, then checked it again and shit it was 9 I went 3 hours just battling ships, harpooning, and deep sea diving without completing a single mission. Boarding ships and attacking forts are insanely fun.
Stealth is definitely encouraged, there's lots of plants and whatnot to hide in and lots of locations have brute-like enemies and captains and gunners on watch towers, so if you don't use stealth, you're going to be in for a fight.
The story to start off is good, it's a little slow right now I'm on sequence 7, so just over halfway, understandable as middle is always a little slow.
The modern day stuff is actually interesting, I thought it was going to be just 'here's a cutscene now stfu because we don't care about the modern day story.' It actually ties in and it shows they still care about the modern day story and that something eventually whenever the fuck that is, maybe 1 game later, maybe 10 games later, something will happen because they are keeping the modern story rolling.
Black flag gameplay is good. No convoys of confusion or shit like that, buying and selling is much simpler, ship upgrading is 100% necessary or you will die all the time. There's plenty of land parts and tons of locations. The open world is 100% open world as they said, it's massive. You can sail from corner to corner of the map without interruptions, lots of land you just hop off your ship and walk on, there are uncharted islands with things to collect, the only times there are ever a loading screen is entering Havana, Kingston, or Nassau, I believe that's it, and maybe the main pirate place, but it's like entering or exiting a city in any of the other previous games. The rest of map and locations are integrated, hopping on and offs which is really cool.
If you aren't a fan of the naval, there's fast travel option for every location once you visit it once.
So far so good, the map so far is my favorite of any AC game, beating out Rome IMO. Land gameplay is basically same as ever, but not crazy easy as it was in AC3 to build a bajillion kill streak. Pistol combos are fun, dual swords look cool, but basically your opinion of this game will make or break with naval. For me, I love it, it's addicting as hell and I could battle ships all day and board them. No greater feeling that swinging off your ship and air assassinating captain of the other while going into pistol combo just like the trailer showed.
The only thing that isn't great in my eyes is the plot. There are still 6 sequences, but as of now what they're working towards is a little blurred, lots of crossing lines. Like in AC2 by this time, goal was obvious - working to get to Rodrigo, in Brotherhood trying to get to the apple and Cesare, in AC3 working to Haytham, etctcetc. Maybe the sequence I'm on now will clear things up, but if you anything about pirate history, there's basically (no game spoilers) pirates have their fun, british come, fun over. Right now on the british coming part, and we're told what the end prize is, but the clear villain and the means to that goal are still a little blurry.
I honestly like it focuses more on the pirate stories but
So, Desmond is officially dead. ;( And the present story is kinda lame, honestly. Shaun and Rebecca are working for abstergo, dafaq
They aren't working for Abstergo, I took that as they're infiltrating Abstergo. The guy who talks to your guy through the security stuff is like "don't worry buddy, we're the good guys, if you tell anyone though you're dead."
They're totally infiltrating, not working, as I took it.
Considering when the American and French Revolutions took place, I can definitely (at least) see Connor appearing if they do go for it in the next game.

I could see that, but I don't think he'd be the main Assassin. Always possible though.
Just, it was beautifully presented. The ending just amazed me. Like it didn't feel like Desmond's ending which was poor quality IMO, this was better than Revelations ending which was my favorite prior to this with the ezio/Altair in the library. This was awesome and top notch quality storytelling.
Ubi - please continue to punch these out EVERY YEAR. Just amazing work.
AND Ive just scratched the surface of total gameplay, still many forts, underwater wreckages, etcetc I've yet to even sail near.
I don't want to be hasty and say this was my favorite game, but this was my favorite game
Honestly this was so immensely satisfying, just marvelous.
And modern day doesn't have Desmond, but it has the most content of any game. Yep, the modern day we thought they were pushing aside is actually more filled than all the previous games.
Redeemed AC3, finally a non-shitty ending! Been waiting for one of theses!!
IMO best ending.
And I was impressed with the modern day part. It basically Ubisoft saying "sorry for the shitty end for AC3, here's something to make up for it a little." Definitely best modern day part for any game yet.
I think that might be more of a joke. There are Abstergo emails saying how sweet a ninja or Asian game would be and we know Ubisoft has said a million times they have no interest in that haha.
I mean I'm not 100% counting this out, but seeing the modern day story was filled lots of trolling (albeit did have some cool/interesting parts) I doubt it

But yeah, every location was trolled. Makes me think they'll do something completely unpredictable and not pick any of them.
I still think French Revolution HAS to happen, it's a French company and every AC fan and their grandma wants to see it happen

But as for that article, I generally agree. Maybe not the exact order, but basically same sort of tiers.
AC = AC:R < AC:B = AC3 < AC4:BF = AC2
Black Flag was fantastic and I think we can expect top notch quality from Ubi here on out.
