this question has been answered many a time. Its a scene the film makers have added in to show the chaos and whatnot of the world, and that no where is safe not even the burrow hence it getting attacked by the deatheaters.

well you missed nothing from the book. Its a new scene that was added to show the growing danger in the wiazrd world. It features Bellatrix and Greyback attacking the Burrow during christmas time i believe.

Harry,Ron,Ginny,Fred,George,Arthur,Molly,Tonks and Lupin all have fun at the Burrow during the christmas holidays.
But at night, Bellatrix and Greyback attack the Burrow, set it on fire and create fire snakes which surround the reeds and marshes of the place.
The Weasleys, the Order and Harry start fighting until Harry is entering the reeds where Bellatrix tries to 'trap' him. Ginny, without hesitating, follows him and manages to save him from an attack of Greyback. Just at this time, the rest of the Order reaches this certain place and the Death Eaters fly away.
From what we've read this is pretty much what happens.Of course we don't know any details but it seems to be a decent, action-packed sequence around 6-7 minutes long.

This will show that every single place is in danger.
In the film, we'll experience a lot of 'dark' things going on. A bridge collapses, the newspapers will talk about disappearances and deaths, the Death Eaters spread panic, Draco is up to something and Harry tries to spy on him and find out, Snape seems to help him,Dumbledore and Harry search for the memories and the Horcruxes...until the middle of the film,we have these various dark themes and this sudden massive attack shows the dark plotline of the film through action and a real attack...I love the idea, actually and I think it'll add a lot to the film. After that, the whole 'spying on Draco and Snape' continues, Dumbledore and Harry decipher Voldemort's past and all things tighten up until the climax of the film. So I think that it's this great point right at the middle of the film which creates enthusiasm to see what will happen next.

I wonder if they changed the script though. The teaser showed Ginny getting disarmed and that didn't happen in the script that was posted. I guess the script we read might have been an earlier draft that they changed later on.

Sounds like it'll be an interesting scene.

But who said that script was real in the first place

Well, I believe it. The guy posted about the attack on the burrow way back in November 2007. No one believed him at first because the idea seemed so preposterous. Nothing like that happened in the 6th book.

He was right though! The burrow attack is in and the guy who posted the script (Phoenix from IMDB) was the first to report it before anyone else.

Yeah.It seems that the script is a bit changes, yes. Ginny is disarmed (probably by Bellatrix). Harry's running A LOT which wasn't in the script except for a short running scene but it was like one sentence...Fenrir's appearance is also a new scene. We don't see anything from Greyback except for his scene watching Ginny and Harry and attacking them.It would be interesting to see how they'll do this.

Also, in Phoenix's script, there's a line from Greyback saying to Ginny "Don't you smell clean". Then, in the trailer, Ginny's wearing a dressing gown, as though she's just been in the shower/had a bath. It all slots in.
  • I noticed that too, Wilbo. It makes sense.
