Cast: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Aaron Paul, Octavia Spencer
Wow, rarely I cross through such a beautiful indie gem. A very nice story about a couple who live in the drinking life, but then, the wife decides to get sober. There isn't much more to tell than that, but I can say it's one of the most accurate and profound visions of an alcoholic and his/her fight to enter sobriety. Beautifully directed by Ponsoldt (makes me very curious for his gig The Spectacular Now, which sports an even more interesting cast), Mary Elizabeth gives one hell of an acting show in an Oscar-worthy performance (which sadly wasn't recognized), which made me see her in a whole different light as an actress. Aaron Paul, Octavia Spencer and Nick Offerman make for equally good supporting performances. Enjoyed a lot.

I'm aware, and I'm very curious to watch it, even more when the screenwriters are the same from (500) Days of Summer.
Quaalude fight: because drunk fight is too mainstream.
As a famous meme youtube video once said, "oh God, oh man, oh God"... How could I take so long to watch such a beautiful movie? My friends love this "Before Time-of-the-day" semi-franchise (Before Midnight leaked not long ago on the internet) and always told me to watch it, but the stupid here never did. Shame on me. There isn't anything to spoil here, beyond saying it's a romance between a young man and woman who meet in a train. The premise is as simple as that, but what differentiates is Linklater astonishing script, with lovable performances from both Hawke and Delpy. The most incredible: these characters feel REAL, palpable. Their conversations on different subjects couldn't be more simples, but extremely charming.
And I guarantee, when the movie is over, you will be already missing this beautiful couple.

It takes a lot to keep me awake at 1:30 in the morning, sitting in a nearly empty theater praying that this movie is a success, every trailer I’ve seen has come down to this moment, the lights begin to dim and the movie starts. Fast forward two hours later and my prayers were answered ten-fold. Righting all the wrongs from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, James Mangold delivers a hit that keeps the intensity coming and with a few surprises in store for viewers.
It was the best idea to have this movie be a sequel to the events of X Men: The Last Stand. Throughout the film it is shown that Logan is a broken man needing a purpose in life again until he is thrown back into civilization by visiting an old friend which turns out to be more than he realizes. As the film progresses we see Logan go from his dark corner of seclusion back to his awesome kick ass character we know and love, but he must also face some inner demons as well.
The film’s pace is amazing, no lagging in dialogue or in character development. Every scene is a joy to watch, showing off great locations.
As far as performances go, EVERYONE in the cast was phenomenal. One thing I noticed about the cast in particular is that some of them are first timers which I find unbelievable. They seem like they have been in the business for a long time. The score is beautifully put together, (favorite tracks: Goodbye Mariko Logan’s Run) the score adds to the atmosphere of the Japan set pieces which are really beautiful.
I only have one problem but it’s with the character of Viper, Svetlana Khodchenkova was amazing for the role and she didn’t overdue the character. The problem is that she has less lines then anyone in the movie. I wanted to know more about her, she was an interesting character and it made you want to know more about her.
I won’t go into much into the after credits scene but it will have you excited X-Men: Days of Future Past next year. To the parents that think this is a movie for your kids, please reconsider. The film definitely displays some of Logan’s foul mouth humor and violence.
Overall, this film is the X-Men First Class of 2013. I actually found this more entertaining than Man of Steel and Iron Man 3 altogether. Hugh Jackman is at his best in this film. James Mangold has delivered the Wolverine movie we have been waiting for. Why can’t the unrated cut be on Blu-ray today.

Wow. And here is another movie that can easily enter the rare list of better sequels, to great movies. Before Sunset takes us nine years after what happened between Celine (Delpy) and Jesse (Hawke) in Viena, at Before Sunrise. Needless to say that the movie sports the same remarkable chemistry between its leads, but here the emotions are amped up, since this is a re-encounter with these two characters, but now they are older and mature, so this time the stakes are different, their lifes changed a lot in this time, and seeing them face that in the various creative talks they have during this time together is nothing but marvelous.
Bolstered by an even better script, a brilliant direction, both by Richard Linklater (the format of the movie is genius, in a way I would deny to spoil), and again, beautiful performances by Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke, I do not exaggerate when I say that this is one of the best romances I've ever watched. And DAT ENDING. Damn.

This left me in total confusion. Definitely an ambitious piece of work by Stanley Kubrick in the sense of his direction. However, it is a magnificent achievement for sci-fi for such an old film.

Europa Report(Sebastián Cordero, 2013) Interesting and very well produced mockumentary that, despite not having remarkable or great moments, generates interesting debates and discussions. Also, usually, the best found-footage movies are the ones where the style serves a purpose not only in technical but narrative aspects, and it is exactly what happens here. Low budget independent movie that I recommend for Sci-Fi fans out there.

Really afraid that this could be something like "Apollo 13". Glad to know it's not the case.
Quaalude fight: because drunk fight is too mainstream.
It's not. It doesn't go through the "horror/thriller" genre. It's more Sci-Fi. And it follows the format of a mockumentary. @MattStrelow didn't like it, though. I thought it has some interesting discussions behind it. If you face it as a low budget indie film, you will probably have a good time.
Stars: Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Tye Sheridan, Michael Shannon
Few people know Jeff Nichols, but the ones who recognize this name can agree that he's becoming one of the most interesting new directors/screenwriters working today. This is another great movie by him (probably his best), anchored by a bravura performance from McConaughey, who is gladly showing to be restabilishing himself as a respected actor, and Tye Sheridan, a kid that shows potential, not to mention Witherspoon, in a less showy but nonetheless interesting role. It's not an actioner or thriller as the synopsis may suggest, and possibly not for everybody, but the ones that give it a try, will find a beautiful story about love, friendship and loyalty.

Quaalude fight: because drunk fight is too mainstream.
A script that has been beautifully written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, performances that are worthy of attention and a story that has heart, struggle and depth all help in making Good Will Hunting a piece of cinema worth remembering.
The Wolverine(James Mangold, 2013) Too didactical to be smart, too bureaucratic to be inventive, too casual to be memorable, The Wolverine - even if better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine - falls short compared to the other movies of the franchise. Your average super-hero movie that has nothing new to be seen.
And by the way, when the scene after the credits is more exciting than the whole movie, you can definitely tell that there's something wrong.

I love having low expectations and then being taken by surprise. I very much enjoyed this. At first glance, you expect it to be a poor attempt to follow the trend of fairy tale adaptations going around of late. The bright, saturated greens and blues don't make it look very professional, and the set pieces and costumes look very...cheap. But what made it work was the script and story. The dialogue was all well written and very original, and I enjoyed the references to 'Albion', which tied in nicely with the cool, if preposterous epilogue. I don't recall any standout moments that make you cringe at the cheesiness of the humour, which was rather dry and witty in contrast to the awkward, modern 'American' style humor of Oz the Great and Powerful. The performances were all mostly good, especially Nicholas Hoult and Bill Nighy, though Eleanor Tomlinson wasn't overly special, and Ewan McGregor seemed to only take it seriously during certain scenes. And Ian McShane looked ridiculous in that armour. I guess to sum it up, it's something that could've had the potential to be something brilliant if the great script had been better adapted to screen, but instead, rather than coming off as bad film, it became a simple, fun watch.
Martin Scorsese's provocative crime which follows taxi driver Travis is gripping and compelling right through, with Robert DeNiro stealing the film with a subtle and convincing performance.
World War Z - With all of its flaws, World War Z is still a smart, engaging, intense, gritty and realistic apocalyptic drama. The effects are great, the score is electric (Muse's theme stands out), and the acting is solid, even if the script and pacing fall a little flat. Director Marc Forster knows how to build tension and increase the intensity of his scenes, and WWZ is an impressive display of these abilities, including a finale that is nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat cinema. Fantastic and immensely fun to watch. 8/10
While The World's End is not Edgar Wright's finest piece of work, it still has his name written all over it as it still manages to entertain humorously with its strange plot points and great cast to lift the experience. And that last 20 minutes or so, extremely weird.
One of the best horror movies ever. Absolutely fantastic. Nice story-line, really had you caring for all the characters. Great acting all around -- I saw this movie for two reasons: Joey King and MacKenzie Foy. My goodness some of their scenes were amazing! The jump-scares and general horror scenes were fantastic!
The Canyons A movie that aspires way more than it's able to achieve, The Canyons brings some interesting ideas to the table but is completely oblivious on how to actually put them together into an interesting story. The result is an overly long collection of useless content disguised as a bigger story, featuring some atrocious acting, with the exception of Lindsay Lohan who is at her best possible here. Considering how low the movie's budget was, it's a shame to see how this failed as a project, because I'm always rooting for microbudget features. 1/5

Static(Todd Levin, 2012) Thriller that gets inspiration from home invasion films and, while having weak acting and not remarkable moments, surprises by its really interesting and unexpected twist.

The Tunnel(Carlo Ledasma, 2011) It might not bring anything new to the genre, but this Australian mix of found footage movie and mockumentary is very effective and nerve wracking.
The Way Way back(Nat Faxon, Jim Rash, 2013) Finally, after 8 months of loud blockbusters, generic popcorn flicks and bland entertainment, 2013 receives it's first gem. Stepping on familiar grounds, The Way Way Back manages not only to be fresh and unique, but also witty and poignant. A heartwarming coming of age story empowered by a great soundtrack and an Oscar caliber performance by Sam Rockwell. One of the best feature films of the year so far.
The Wolverine - 9.5/10 - Best Wolverine movie... just thought the robot was kind of stupid. Everything else was great, loved the end-credits scene.
Another Earth - 9/10 - Amazing for an independent film. Great writing and storyline. The sci-fi element was a little weird, but the payoff at the very end of the movie, and the thought of what it meant made up for it. That was cool. The real story to the movie is the drama behind it, the story between the main characters. It was quite sad, but also very beautiful. Nice acting between the two main actors. Wonderful film.
So much better than I thought it was going to be! It was a nice twist on the usual zombie story. It was quite cute and really funny at times. Nicholas Hoult was hillarious!
Great story. The villains were absolutely menacing. The action was thrilling. The acting was great - Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner were amazing! I loved what they did with Jor-El's character. The way they changed Jonathon Kent's death shocked me, totally unexpected!
My second favorite Superman movie, my first is Superman II.
What starts off as an extraordinarily ambitious mission in which seven astronauts seek to reignite a dying sun, turns into a disastrous voyage where the unexpected happens. Danny Boyle has once again weaved his unique filmmaking skills into this wondrous and visually striking film that is emotionally excruciating at times and packed with heart throbbing moments. Sunshine proves that when sci-fi is handled appropriately, it can be extremely satisfying.
Olympus Has Fallen A surprisingly consistent throwback action flick that manages to be entertaining and engaging, never taking the viewer away from the experience despite its very weak visual features. The action set pieces are thrilling, especially the first attack early into the film. Unfortunately, it still suffers from some questionable acting and poor dialogue. Overall, while far from perfect or even from great, this is one of my biggest surprises this year. 3/5
Magic has been taken to fascinating and impossible levels levels in this grand spectacle of a film, but the intelligently planned out acts make the impossible seem possible. The magic surprises you to the very core and makes us all say "I love magic" all over again. Bashed by the majority of critics but I think they're wrong with this, it is a lot more worthy than "rotten" according to RT.
It was scary! and knowing at the end its based on a true story made even more terryfying :-S
haha I hate to be a buzzkill but they fabricated most of the movie. The people were all real but it happened in a series of months instead of days and even Annabelle the doll in real life is a Raggedy Anne doll and not an elaborate creepy doll. Even her story in the film was wrong. haha
Ive always thought the demonologists were a cool couple with some unique stories that have been around for some decades now - but the movie was exaggerated bigtime and at least for me took me out of it. :-<

Lord Stafford.

Olympus Has Fallen
A surprisingly consistent throwback action flick that manages to be entertaining and engaging, never taking the viewer away from the experience despite its very weak visual features. The action set pieces are thrilling, especially the first attack early into the film. Unfortunately, it still suffers from some questionable acting and poor dialogue. Overall, while far from perfect or even from great, this is one of my biggest surprises this year.

Ive always thought the demonologists were a cool couple with some unique stories that have been around for some decades now - but the movie was exaggerated bigtime and at least for me took me out of it. :-<
