The ultimate trolling would be if Robert Galbraith is the real author and they made a deal - after all, everybody knows about 'him' now and bought his book haha.

Why didn't she release it as Rowling?

I think since she had such a mixed reaction to 'A Casual Vacancy' that maybe she wanted to see how people would react to her writing and not know it was written by 'Harry's mom'. This way she'd get a real reaction and not something by people that are prejudiced about her either way.

My mom said the same thing when I told her. At first I got mad about it, but I think it does make sense.

She added that "Galbraith" planned to keep writing the series, and her publisher said that the second book is expected to be published next summer. Now that her identity is revealed, Little, Brown said "The Cuckoo's Calling" will be reprinted with a revised author biography.

So I wonder if that means they'll change it to her name now we all know. I checked Barnes and Noble's web site and they're out of stock online and they won't have anymore until August 26th.

    Some new info from Mugglenet:

New details emerge about the revelation of J.K. Rowling's pseudonym

The New York Times has reported some fascinating new details about how The Sunday Times discovered that Robert Galbraith was actually J.K. Rowling. According to the paper's arts editor, Richard Brooks, it all began with Twitter. Last week, one of his colleagues posted about how much she loved Cuckoo's Calling and how it seemed like it hadn't been written by a debut author. That's when the plot thickens.

'After midnight she got a tweet back from an anonymous person saying it's not a first-time novel, it was written by J. K. Rowling,' Mr. Brooks said in an interview. 'So my colleague tweeted back and said, 'How do you know for sure?'

The person replied, 'I just know,' and then proceeded to delete all his (or her) tweets and to close down the Twitter account, Mr. Brooks said. 'All traces of this person had been taken off, and we couldn't find his name again.'

Brooks then proceeded to do some internet research, discovering that that both Cuckoo's Calling and The Casual Vacancy shared the same agent, publisher, and editor, which aroused his suspicions - how could a novice writer be important enough to have the same editor as J.K. Rowling? His next step was to send a request to linguist experts who confirmed that the two books had many similarities. Acting off of this evidence, Brooks emailed representatives for Rowling on Friday evening, who responded the next morning with a confirmation.

These new details revealed by the Times have made an unbelievable story even more mysterious!

Wonder who the mysterious Tweeter was :-?

I now have a PDF version of the book until I can buy a real copy. Sounds like it is hard to get it right now, so it is my best option.

Is it ok if you send it to me? I will only be able to get my own copy until August and I don't want to wait that long. I will buy it, of course, but I wanna start reading.

    Cool... but very very obvious.

Anagrams are really easy to solve.

Besides, I liked what she picked. "Famous Stranger"... seems she picked it as a joke because of what it actually meant to her.

    Jo's tweet, sparking the article:

What I have to say about being Robert Galbraith and writing 'The Cuckoo’s Calling': http://t.co/glyGBv1x2n

    — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) July 15, 2013

I hoped to keep this secret a little longer, because being Robert Galbraith has been such a liberating experience! It has been wonderful to publish without hype or expectation and pure pleasure to get feedback from publishers and readers under a different name. The upside of being rumbled is that I can publicly thank my editor David Shelley, who has been a true partner in crime, all those people at Little, Brown who have been working so hard on The Cuckoo’s Calling without realising that I wrote it, and the writers and reviewers, both in the newspapers and online, who have been so generous to the novel. And to those who have asked for a sequel, Robert fully intends to keep writing the series, although he will probably continue to turn down personal appearances.

Naturally not a single shop in town had a copy of the book and probably won't have any for a while yet until loads more have been printed. Had many odd looks from the the staff for asking if they had any. Clearly it was a stupid question haha. Placed an order on amazon now so hopefully will be able to read this soon.

You guys probably know that I'm the most controversial user of the forum. But I have this urge to write my opinions about. My intention here is not to polemicize, but just share my point of view. I hope I don't get flagged for exposing my thoughts. :( I just wanted to share with you what I think of all of this. You don't need to agree, but I hope you understand :D

I find everything regarding this book really fishy. I read the articles and everything regarding it and I still think that things sound really strange and off. In my opinion it was a brilliant - but dirty - marketing strategy from the publisher. After the negative critical response of The Casual Vacancy, the Publisher probably got worried about releasing a novel under her name again. After all, most of the sales of The Casual Vacancy were related to her name and the Harry Potter Saga itself, and not the appeal of the book. It worked, but after the bad response, would it work on a another novel? In my opinion, they chosen to release under a pseudonym to test the waters. Reviews were great, it was pretty well received. But as any business, a Publisher needs profit. So? They needed to sell it. How? Spread the truth. After all, JK Rowling and good reviews is already enough to attract readers. Specially good reviews, as it can clean the bad impression that The Casual Vacancy left the readers.

Personally? I won't fall for this strategy. I've always said that I'm a fan of the Harry Potter saga, and not JK Rowling. The plotline doesn't interest me. It's not my type of book. So I won't lie to myself and give priority to a book just because it says that it is written by J.K. Rowling. And I honestly think it is kind of sad. Something similar happens to the actors, when they are involved in another films. The interest is just there because they have a relation with Harry Potter. Exactly of what happen with The Bling Ring. People were more interested in seeing "Hermione" than the movie itself. I find it upsetting.

As I wrote, the plot doesn't attract me by any means. I don't like crime novels. I might give it a chance someday, but I would never put books of my priority list aside to read something that doesn't interest me just for the sake of being written by the same author of a series that I love. Sometimes I think the fans need to detach the image of the Harry Potter series to the people involved. People don't see J.K. Rowling. They see the author that wrote Harry Potter. And if you stop to think about it, it is pretty sad. She even had to write under a pseudonym to see if readers would finally stop being attracted by her novels because of Harry Potter.

Anyways, just my opinion guys. Sorry to always sound polemic and stuff. Just wanted to share what I think ^^
I hope that you that are reading it are really enjoying. But judge the book as it's own narrative and not because it was written by the writer of Harry Potter.

Uh... based on the reviews BEFORE JK Rowling announced it was her book, apparently the book is spectacular. I have yet to start reading it, but might read a bit tonight before I go to bed. But based on opinions, this book is a great addition to the detective/crime/mystery series.

Also, JK Rowling said she did the whole pseudonym thing to see what the critics would say and what the online reviews would say... and she loved what had been said. She also said she wished this news didn't break yet. I believe her. It is definitely NOT some publishing ploy... it was a reporter's lucky break. The discovery didn't have anything to do with JK Rowling or the publishing company.

And that's exactly what I wrote. They published under a pseudonym to test the waters and see the reactions, because they couldn't measure if the book was going to be a success after The Casual Vacancy.

And for me, it is totally a marketing strategy. Why would they announce that the book was written by her, then? Just because a "mysterious person on Twitter found out"? This story doesn't convince me.

As I said, it is MY opinion. I'm just not naive enough to think that there's no intentions behind this pseudonym. Thanks for the flag ^^

That whole "Mysterious person on twitter" thing was a rumor. I don't believe that is real, to be honest. I DO believe the fact that the article-writer read the book, saw something fishy with the publisher and the style of writing and decided to look up on it like someone good at their job should. I believe even JK Rowling said the person who discovered it was very good at their job.

Totally agree fhaps. I am proud to say I am a JK Rowling fan. I am excited when I hear she is working on a new book (even when it isn't Harry Potter), and excited when a new book by her comes out. The fact that she is doing a series on this book, I was happy to hear that.

Something new, fresh, different, mature, sad, fun etc... All i have love in Harry Potter stories but like you i totally understand why people doesn't love it (may be more than why people doesn't love Harry Potter for real ^^) and i love so much crime novel that i'm totally frustrated to have to wait until end of the year to begun to read CC

The reason why I don't think it's a publicity stunt is because every shop in town that I went to said that they have never had a copy of the book and that they don't know when they are going to get any because the publishers need to do a massive reprint. If it was a publicity stunt I think they would have had some books ready on standby to send out. It's possible that someone in the company planted a seed so people would find out but I don't think it was ever the plan especially not something that J.K Rowling herself wanted to do.

When you live and die by one Wonan's writing for 10+ years you kinda get attached to the way she sets a scene. When I write I notice many things I picked up from JKR because I've read each HP book 17+ times.

I didn't read Casual Vacancy because its not my kind of book... This, however, is. JKR is an excellent Mystery writer. That was always my favorite element of HP and the part I think she writes the best, mystery elements. I can't wait to crack into her new book now B-)

Writing is very subject to the individual because we all hear a voice different in our heads, but when JKR is setting up the air of mystery in a novel it is my most favorite in all of literature.

    - The story of Quirrel
    - The Basilisk discovery via Hermione
    - Time Turner
    - Barty Crouch Jr and all the subtle hints throughout the book!!!
    - Half Blood Prince and Horcrux mysteries

These were some I can think of off the top of my head that were WAY better than they had to be... That's why I love her writing.

Was revealing the true identity of Robert Galbraith not simply an elaborate marketing campaign to help boost sales?

If anyone had seen the labyrinthine plans I laid to conceal my identity (or indeed my expression when I realised that the game was up!) they would realise how little I wanted to be discovered. I hoped to keep the secret as long as possible. I’m grateful for all the feedback from publishers and readers, and for some great reviews. Being Robert Galbraith has been all about the work, which is my favourite part of being a writer. This was not a leak or marketing ploy by me, my publisher or agent, both of whom have been completely supportive of my desire to fly under the radar. If sales were what mattered to me most, I would have written under my own name from the start, and with the greatest fanfare.

At the point I was ‘outed’, Robert had sold 8500 English language copies across all formats (hardback, eBook, library and audiobook) and received two offers from television production companies. The situation was becoming increasingly complicated, largely because Robert was doing rather better than we had expected him to, but we all still hoped to keep the secret a little longer. Yet Robert’s success during his first three months as a published writer (discounting sales made after I was found out) actually compares favourably with J.K. Rowling’s success over the equivalent period of her career!

A friend of mine is at Comic Con right now and earlier on the day Mulholland Books (the Little, Brown imprint under which the book was published) gave away 10 first edition copies of "The Cuckoo's Calling," and she was able to grab one for me (she's not a fan)!

I'm so happy! I wanted a copy of the book without the line 'Robert Galbraith is a pseudonym for J.K. Rowling' that the new print will have; and as I'm not in the States I was obviously not able to grab one, but now she got it for me!! :D And for free haha

OMG the true was reveal because of one of her lawyers
Chris Gossage from Russels told her wife and her best friend Judith Callegari that in reality Robert Galbraith was JK Rowling. Coming home Judith Callegari create a false Twitter account and reveal to the Sunday time journalist the true and then delete the tweets and account

I can imagine how much Jo could be upset !!
