Chamber of Secrets Forums to close this Summer

SoulxxBondSoulxxBond Posts: 2,079 ✭✭✭✭
If you venture onto Chamber of Secrets forums, you'll find a very long message saying that the forum will be closing this summer, after its long run of 10+ years.

:(

Been a member there since October of 2004. Was the first Harry Potter community I was ever a part of. First place I put my fan-fiction, and found that people actually loved it! Made some amazing friends, some rather close at one point or another. All the discussions were great, especially when it came to the new books or new movies coming out.

It is like saying goodbye to a friend. :(

    Not sympathetic unfortunately.

They (and Mugglenet, which they belong to) very arrogantly rejected my petition to get Extended versions of the films. Deleted my post and banned my account for no reason whatsoever.

    ... *blinks* :))

Sorry, but... such a dumb thing to be so bitter about. Petitions rarely work, especially stuff like that. Staff of both probably knew that, as did, well probably loads of people you tried to talk about it to.

And that staff there is not arrogant about anything. Difference of opinion, and your bitterness over such a reaction probably heightened your thoughts and emotions of it being arrogant. Ask any Psychology expert on that one.

I actually have an account on COS. Known by the same name, but I've only ever posted once. Still, it is unfortunate to see another Potter site go.

Sad news. But HPF has always been a much better place and as long as it lives forever, I won't complain

HPF has always been the best HP forum. COS was too strictly and thereby not fun.

Should we expect more users coming here because of that?
  • NickNick Posts: 20,653 ✭✭✭✭✭
maybe. but maybe the reason there closing is because everyone on COS is not active anymore.

Shouldn't be long before Mugglenet as a whole follows suit.

Yeah, but no one on the staff of Mugglenet actually run CoS forums... different entity, only affiliation as far as it is their official forums.

-sigh- HPF will be the only place I can really discuss Harry Potter after CoS closes, because I'm not really a member of any other HP forums, except perhaps one I hardly venture on. And this forum has turned into a general entertainment forum anyway. Something kind of sad about that.

It is definitely the end of a long and wonderful chapter in the Harry Potter era with the close of Chamber of Secrets forums.

Sad? I don't see anything sad about that. This place has always been more than a simple forum. We are a community that shares similar tastes and personalities. Maybe, that's the reason COS is closing and HPF is still alive, after all, if CoS wasn't such a closed minded place restricted to HP only, I doubt it would close. I'm more than happy to see that over here people are open to talk about everything. After all, I bet that most of us are not here only to discuss Harry Potter, but also to meet people and make friends. How can that be sad? I have no idea.

Dude when was the last time you were on Cos Forums... there is like 4 general Harry Potter sections there, with a few more for games and such.... and the rest is general topic. Restricted to HP how? 50-75% of it is general chat outside of HP.

I don't post there much, mainly about upcoming HP marathons and my calendars...I'll miss it though I've made a few friends there and pm them. Too bad they didn't loosen up some of their rules, it might have been better :(

I think they've already closed the COS Forums. I went to check something in a pm and the link to it in 'Discussions' is gone. :-? Has anyone else checked them today? They were there last night.

If its not closed yet someone should invite the members that still go there to this site.
  • NumberEightNumberEight Posts: 1,574 ✭✭✭✭✭
Good riddance. It is over modded, debate is discouraged, warnings thrown out for trivial mattes, too immature to handle a public political forum, obvious favoritism, etc. It is perhaps the worst forum I've ever been a member of.

So Crucify the ego, before it's far too late, to leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical. And you will come to find that we are all one mind, capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable.

That's one of the reasons I was going in there tonight. I needed to get the e-mail address for one of my friends and was going to give her the link for here. Plus I was going to post it on the calendar page over the next few months so people would know where to come if they still wanted the calendars. But... :-w somebody jumped the gun.

Sims and Spartz are finally figuring out that there's really no point in running their website anymore now that Potter is over. It won't generate revenue if there aren't all that many hits. They most likely have bigger and better things to achieve, and they've made that clear with Hypable.

CoS never had the "soul" that our forum had. However, I did appreciate the regulated rules there - especially when some members here had huge signatures. :P

I did find a way into the COS Forum, after I did a Google search. They have thread to talk about the closing so I posted a link to here, so be on the look out in case anyone new shows up. If anyone is interested in checking things out there, you can find them here.

Don't see the link to this forum, and there is no need for a google search, the site is well known....

It's here. I go by brattyc there. If you've been to Mugglenet recently you will have seen that COS is no longer found in their 'Discussions' link, so there isn't any way in through them. :-??

I always went in through Mugglenet, so I never looked at their url...but it doesn't matter now, I had e-mailed them to ask why they took it out of Discussions and I just got an answer...it had been accidentally deleted 8-|
