Emma Watson in "early talks" for Kenneth Branaugh's Cinderella

Emma Watson has already been confirmed for Guillermo Del Toro's "Beauty", but there is now news she could be playing ANOTHER well-known fairytale character - Cinderella.

Variety reported that Emma Watson may be taking on the live-action part of famous Disney princess Cinderella, with her former Harry Potter costar Sir Kenneth Branagh directing. The project is in early talks right now, and Oscar winner Cate Blanchett would portray the evil stepmother.

The film, if Emma is confirmed as attached, would begin production this fall with a 2014 release. We will have more on this as it is released.

Note that it is early, and nothing has been confirmed.

They make a good point... the fact that there is a possibility that she could play two Disney princesses (Belle's really only a princess because of the Prince -- the rest of the story she isn't exactly a princess) could make this a bit difficult in her snatching the role. She is already going to be Belle. Two movies so close together where she plays two similar roles (Disney princesses, not similar in character per say) could be a bit odd and questionable toward the endgame of her getting the role.

I don't like the idea. Playing two Disney princesses wouldn't be good for her, since that Emma is doing all these difficult parts to prove herself out of fantasy films. And Emma doesn't have the Cinderella looks. They should have sticked with Saoirse Ronan.

I think the fact that Emma worked with Kenneth Branaugh before influenced his choice in talking to her for the role.

While it is true she does want to move away from fantasy, she did in fact play a very big role in becoming Belle for Del Toro's movie. So it seems she still does want to play fantasy roles.

She should do a horror movie and a comedy instead of playing another fairy tale character. But i agree, maybe the fact she has worked twice with Kenneth Branagh may influence his choice.

End of the World is a Comedy, and might be a soft horror too.

In the end, Cinderella's glass slipper just didn't fit Emma Watson. Thesp’s reps couldn’t work out a deal with Disney for her to star in the studio’s live action retelling of the fairy tale that Kenneth Branagh will direct, Variety has learned. Cate Blanchett will play the wicked stepmother. Specific reasons were not disclosed.
Watson still has another fantasy role waiting in the wings in Guillermo del Toro’s “Beauty and the Beast,” at Warner Bros., in which she’ll play Belle. However, that project is still in development at the studio and does not yet have a production start date or berth on the release calendar. It will not go before the cameras this year, freeing Watson up for other roles. Denise Di Novi (“Edward Scissorhands,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”) is co-producing “Beauty and the Beast,” which was announced early last year. *snip*
