Bane honestly wasn't as grim or badass or threatening as I wanted him to be-- or thought he would be. The most substantial thing he did was beat up Batman but we all knew that was coming. I wanted to see him doing some truly fucked up shit and doing despicable acts of war. The problem I have is that it doesn't go far enough. It tries to be dark but does so in the wrong ways IMO. If anything I found Bane to be very cheesy, more of a "I'm going to stand around and talk about all the bad things I'm going to do" instead of actually demonstrating them and that's not a good thing in a movie that is supposedly very dark and realistic.
Brandon with me, you dont need to put IMO im not like users who get butthurt I KNOW it is your opinion bro haha. I see where youre coming from, but his presence and voice I think do the job of making him a vicious beast alone. In the end Talia was the mastermind and Bane was her puppet but I think he saw Rhas in her you know? She was like the leader and Bane respected that, which again makes him look weak but the twist at the end was worth it I think. I think it indeed fooled alot if people. Ofcourse Joker is still a far superior villain I think we can both agree on that (:
I know you get it, but some people don't and it upsets them for whatever reason. I would rather be a likable member than not, so I've been trying harder. I disagree with the very false accusations but it causes more drama than I would like.

Bane was scary in the sense that he was so driven by his political convictions to the point that he would justify any acts of terrorism and murder as necessary for what he considers the greater good. He is 100 % sane, he knows right from wrong, but he is so convinced that his (or rather Talia's) ideology would be in Gotham's interest because he sees a corrupt city where the poor suffer. He kills those he thinks deserve it or those who get in his way, and he does so in a cold, rational and mechanical manner without much, if any, lingering (except for Batman whom he wanted to punish for his crimes). He reminded me in some ways of a certain mass-murderer in Norway up till the ending where it's revealed that Bane was manipulated into it by Talia -- the true mastermind behind it whom he loved and would do everything for. And he meant nothing for her in the end. He was just a puppet in her scheme. I couldn't help but feel pity for him in the end.
Bane doesn't feel any need to fuck up shits for the fun of it. His way of killing is not prolonged or exaggerated, but to the point. He has a purpose and is goal-oriented in everything he does. He views himself as necessary evil. And that's what makes him more interesting as a villain than The Joker to me who only wanted to create chaos and prove a point in a self-contradictory way due to all his own planning which he criticizes other characters for. Don't get me wrong, The Joker is a memorable villain and his lack of any motivation other than seeing the world burn makes him scary, but he didn't have the same presence or contemporary relevance as Bane has. That moment where this rich person (sorry, I'm neither on first name nor surname on him) spits out his rage at a calm Bane you know that he's making a serious mistake. As Bane points out, "does that (him paying Bane to do work for him) make you feel you have power over me?" And he just breaks his neck wihout any hesitation or showing any emotions. That's terrifying.
That's all well and good but I found that the direction and the performance, basically the general execution, did not convey that. I was not convinced or terrified by the guy and I'm generally easily manipulated. Maybe my idea of "scary" differs from that of most, I don't know.
It wasn't so much the character (he is certainly no Hannibal Lecter), but what he represents that made him terrifying to me. There is nothing wrong with your idea of "scary" for not sharing that opinion however. As you have pointed out yourself on many occasions, what's scary is very, very subjective. I didn't find the Joker particularly scary when I watched TDK. The scene with Alfred telling Bruce that some men just want to see the world burn coupled with the close-ups of the Joker laughing maniacally was the closest it got to scary. I know that many would disagree with me, but I would have preferred some backstory on the Joker; where he came from, what made him what he is and so on, but I do get that the point was that nobody knew who he was or what his purpose was. The character just didn't do much for me other than the memorable performance.
I liked Dane DeHaan in Chronicle and definitely think he can do a good job with Harry Osbourne. As for Jamie Foxx, I've never really seen him in this villainous role but I have faith in him.
Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn...an unexpected choice, but the more I think about it, the more I like it (and the more I'm reinforced that this film will be better than the first--the same great style of direction by Webb, but with an entirely new storyline rather than a bit of a rehash.)
Getting a little cocky now, isn't he? So being amazing isn't good enough anymore? Spectacular it is. Following that development, the third movie should be called "The Narcissistic Spiderman" then.
My Blu-ray arrived yesterday and I watched it. I really love this movie, despite recognizing its absurdities. It's really flawed, but I love it, there's something about it that just fascinates me. I'm really excited for Part 2!
There were some really cool easter eggs in ASM: In the very last shot of the film where [Spider-Man] is swinging, gets himself shot out of the crane and he’s flying down past the George Washington Bridge and he strikes a pose, there’s an Easter Egg

I come in peace. I just really wanted and expected more out of TDKR, and the villain. Bane ended up being such a bitch.

Jamie Foxx in a villain role for the sequel? Eh, I like him better in protagonist roles, but we'll see...
I saw earlier today that Shaliene Woodley is going to be in the movie... anyone know who she is going to be?
