Chronicle - 7.5/10 - Ending battle scene in city was epic! Real Steel - 9/10 - One of the best family films I've ever seen. Love the robots, can't wait for a sequel.
I love scenes where the people creating the film just let the music take over and allow a scene to transport you from this world to another. The whole sequence with Ewen McGregor and the anti-matter bomb sent chills down my spine with Science and Religion blaring in the background.
Heavily reminded me of The Dark Knight Rises.
"If you make yourself more than just a man... If you devote yourself to an ideal... You become something else entirely- A Legend."
I totally agree. Seriously underrated film, and gets far too much hate. Zimmer's score was magical, especially in that scene. Though his album release left me wanting yet again. -.-
When a film is a good 90 minutes and provides little dialogue but it still is as entertaining as most Pixar films you know that it's good. WALL-E brings to life another extraordinary Pixar story with the most amazing visuals and two lovable robots.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 I'm really not sure how I feel about this movie yet. It was definitely the best one of the series, but it had as much pros as cons going for it. It was humorous, fun, even engaging. But it was at the same time clunky and had terrible visual effects. I mean that CGI Renesmee was painfully horrible! The movie opens up with a beautiful credits sequence that surprised me, but soon after it ended we were treated to a clumsily edited introduction to Bella as a vampire, with awfully unfitting music. The first act is definitely the weakest part of the film, but it really gets better with time. I love how it finally embraces the sheer absurdity of its premise and plays with it, even putting a telenovela style character credits sequence in the end and putting in some actually great jokes like "You nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness Monster?!". And the climax battle was absolutely amazing, I never expected it to be so thrilling and I found myself cheering with the audience through it. The audience cheered with joy through the fight scene and also gasped with disappointment with the "twist". It was terrible. When the movie was finally putting something different and exciting, it ruins itself. I had never experienced such a massive "boo" from an audience that was packed with fans. Oh well... I enjoyed parts of it, and I'm pretty sure it was an exact half of the final product. I might as well rate it half a full score. 5/10
That's a pity that when they actually make a worthwhile scene (I trust you on that, Matt, as I haven't seen it myself), it's rendered useless by some stupid twist. The only way the audience could end up accepting something like that was if the battle was awful. If I had directed this shit, I would definitely have removed the twist. And made alterations to the entire plot while I was at it.
If a clever screenwriter, who recognize a crappy story and change it, had written the series, he/she would have made alterations to the plot of the entire series.
I do think they may have recognized it, but they were too lazy to bother changing something that would cash in money anyway. They didn't dare to challenge the fanbase by making something far superior.
I didn't know the Twilight fanbase could even be challenged.

I'm gonna go see bd2 on Saturday. It looks good-but the other ones did too and they turned out bad so....I wonder if people will boo at my theater haha
"The sun persists in rising so I make myself stand."
Well guys, I just came back from watching Breaking Dawn Part 2! Unlike most of you, I do not hate the Twilight Saga. I mean, the books are pretty terrible, but I actually enjoy the films. Maybe if they had taken more liberties with the books, the films could have been better. I actually think there is loads of potential in a love story involving vampires and werewolves. Just look at the Vampire Diaries - the show's epic!
In my opinion,Twilight's main fault, apart from being an adaptation of extremely bland material, is that it just doesn't feel "vampiresque" at all. It's not dark or gritty. In fact, it's all very sparkly and shiny. Don't like it.
Anyways, back to BD2. I thought that the film was alright. A fitting conclusion to the series. The thing is that it feels very uneven. There are some extremely weak moments, but there are a few solid ones as well. I liked the new married life of Edward and Bella- they're just meant to be together.
I thought Kristen and Robert's acting was acceptable, nothing special, but it worked. In fact, they might have provided the film's best acting, aside from Billy Burke. Everyone else was so... basic. That's the word. Don't even get me started on the "new" vampires. Most of them sucked, Ugh.
I somehow think that the technical aspects were far better in BD1. This is where my main problem with the film comes in. The freaking CGI. It was so bad. So very bad. Kind of insulting, actually. The early stages of Renesmee are just awful. She looked incredibly creepy-like a character from the Polar Express or something. I can't ....
I did like Renesmee afterwards. The little girl who played her, McKenzie I think, was quite lovely! She gave it her best. This leads me to the whole Jacob imprinting on her thing. Overall, I think Jacob's irrelevant. I just didn't care about him at all. Personally, I think that if SM had killed him off, the story could have worked a bit better. Okay, back to the point. The imprinting situation was less silly than in the book. What made the whole thing less creepy was that even the actors knew how stupid it all was. You could really tell. These interactions provided some of the film's "funny" moments.
Now, in my opinion, the films second half is far better than the first, which was sort of slow. This is what really makes BD2 one of the franchise's best films. The climax was quite good! I had a blast watching it, not gonna lie. BUT THAT MOTHERFUCKING "TWIST". It ruined everything. THE WHOLE THING SHOULD HAVE BEEN REAL! UGSJDKFGDSMBNV If it had, Breaking Dawn Part 2 could have ended up being x10 better. I was so frustrated.
As a closing note, I would like to say that the end did leave me feeling a teensy tiny bit nostalgic (Come at me, ya haters), because I kinda enjoyed the films. Whether you like it or not, Twilight has been a big thing these past couple of years, and while I never really liked, the whole thing was weirdly entertaining.
Watched Paranormal Activity 4 at the theater again today and I'm seriously considering changing my rating from 6.5 to 7.5. It's really growing on me and was even better in this viewing.
I bought eight Criterion Blu-rays over the past two weeks, seven of which are blind buys. I have seen fiv of the seven, all of which have been great.
First, who knew a rapey rapeful rapist could make a good movie? Rosemary's Baby (1968) is how you make a slow and brooding horror movie. Ti West needs to retire because he couldn't even handle it with his horrid House of the Devil. You are always left with the impression that something terrible is about to happen as the film progresses. It's this type of effect that Ti West couldn't replicate. Rosemary's Baby has plenty of problems, though. For one, Mia Farrow's acting is appalling and very unconvincing. I also am not a huge fan of the ending because of clunky dialogue and laughable delivery. I wish it had been a tad more subtle instead of hearing the anti-God rant that took me out of the scene. Of course then we wouldn't have Rosemary's acceptance of her creation. I am sure something could have been done to make it work more smoothly.
Tokyo Drifter (1966) was my first foray into Japanese New Wave. It's an amazing stylish piece of work that may have influenced Tarantino at some point. It also has a great deal of substance as we see an ex-Yakuza member trying to remain out of the game. Double crosses are everywhere, accepting one's fate is rampant, and the protagonist is very, very cool. He's the coolest gangster you'll see in a movie. I was instantly reminded of the stellar Godfather Part III when it came to getting out of the game.
Chungking Express (1994), as I have read, is a movie loved extensively by Tarantino. Ebert's review said that the movie reduced Tarantino to tears because America at large could finally see it. The most I can say is that this is the Chinese Love Actually, only 9 years earlier. It's a great movie about a loss of love and finding it again. It's very uplifting and charming, and I doubt many romantic films in America can even come close to the level of quality. Love Actually is only slightly better because of its plethora of loveable characters. Chungking Expres will leave you with a smile on your face as you watch tales of love unfolding at a vendor on the side of the street.
In the Mood for Love (2000) is from the same director as Chungking Express. The director carries over the theme of love and loss but adds some special touches to it. Here, love is just a fleeting moment away but the people involved never make a move to fully show their feelings. It's exquisitely shot in a way to accompany the deep sadness the two heroes feel. This is not a romantic comedy, so don't expect a lighthearted affair. Expect a realistic portrayal of how two people can be in love but someone never expresses how they feel until it's too late.
House (1977) can only be adequately described by using two words: batshit crazy. This is a crazy Japanese horror movie s all over the place. It's random, funn,y and it was purposefully made this way. The bonus features include an interview with the director and his daughter where you find out that the daughter was the inspiration for the film and screenplay. That makes it even more funny beasue what scares a child is put onto film in spectacular fashion. How can you resist an old woman in a wheelchair, a cat, and girls named Gorgeous, Prof, Melody, Kung Fu, Mac, Sweet, and Fantasy? It's odd to see an all female cast in a horror movie and it be charming as well as freaky.
Now I only have to watch Rashoman (1950), Branded to Kill (1967), and revisit Antichrist (2009).

I just saw Breaking Dawn part 2 last night....so here's what i thought: It was definitely the best in the series. It had an interesting plot, and most of the acting was good (except for bella, of course). I thought the CG was pretty impressive, but the baby still looked a bit creepy...... I thought they did a good job with the battle scenes, and building up suspense. I also liked that they put some humor into it, and there were some really funny parts. I loved seeing the different covens, and although the ending was a bit disappointing-it was okay. I might not be the biggest Twilight fan, but it was definitely a good movie. I give it an 8/10

Yeah it was really intense-they like cut the baby out of her then she died and woke up a vampire. It was definitely one of the best parts of the movie, even though it was kinds gross...
"The sun persists in rising so I make myself stand."
I'm pleased with what was done to make up for the silly source material. I found the film very enjoyable, and I'd gladly see it a second time. I've always enjoyed the way the films were made in this saga, but this one was great.
Cinematography was good, but perhaps not the strongest in the series. The score was marvelous (caught a snatch of Desplat's New Moon theme in the opening), though the choir in the battle may have been a tad ambitious.
The acting was the most solid in the series, particularly from Kristen. I'm rather tired of Rob's mumbling though, and Taylor has elevated himself from 'not very good' to 'nothing negative to say' in my eyes. Michael Sheen is fun to watch, though there were some moments he was a tad silly. Jamie Bower looked like he might've been trying to take a page out of Sheen's book, but I'm glad he actually had some degree of focus for once.
The battle was very entertaining, and I'm satisfied with the twist. I liked it a lot, because it stayed true to the book and still offered entertainment value. It also made Aro look like a villain rather than the giggling idiot he was in the book. The ending was great, and I thought the closing credits was a good idea. I found that quite lovely.
My only complaints are the CGI baby, which could've been better, but I understand what they were trying to do. Giving the film opening credits was a weird thing to do, despite the films never having them before. And as I said, a bit of the acting.
Overall, very enjoyable. I'd gladly watch it again.
It is a twist. It's not a twist to the book, but its a twist to the film. The way it is done is to make out as though they are going heavily against the book, but then they're all 'nope'. I was expecting it to be kind of silly, but it was almost seamless. The audience in my theater gave a kind of collective gasp, with some whispered 'woah, what' comments in there.
