Last week we flew to London to do something I’d been fantasizing about for years: visit Abbey Road Studios where our composer, Alexandre Desplat, is conducting the London Symphony Orchestra for the recording of his beautiful score for our movie. Alexandre’s been working furiously for the last few months on the music and it’s so perfect for the movie, so magical and so much fun — I guarantee there won’t be a dry eye in the house (at least not mine!!). It really will be the crowning moment to date.
Off to AIR Lyndhurst for the last two sessions of percussion overdubs for Alexandre Desplat's score to "Rise of the Guardians". It's been an extraordinary 10 days recording with the incomparable LSO AD's emotional, melodic epic score. The music harkens back to the animation scores I worked on some 20 years ago: melodic, harmonic, witty and moving. I can't recall a score that I've worked on( recently at least) where all involved-from musicians to filmmakers-were so thrilled and moved. Kudos to the creative team at Dreamworks for unleashing a new "musical Guardian" in Alexandre Desplat! Grateful to have been a part. Back to L.A. tomorrow.
The score for Rise Of The Guardians will be released on November 13th. It will feature a song (possibly written by Desplat) performed by Renee Fleming.
RISE OF THE GUARDIANS is an epic adventure that tells the story of a group of heroes (voiced by Alex Baldwin, Hugh Laurie and Chris Pine) — each with extraordinary abilities. When an evil spirit known as Pitch (Jude Law) lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces for the first time to protect the hopes, beliefs, and imagination of children all over the world.
Alexandre Desplat creates a wondrous and fantastical score brimming with magic and adventure.
DreamWorks Animation will open RISE OF THE GUARDIANS nationwide on November 21.
It's a blend between Desplat and James Horner's animated scores in the 90's. And the choir is not as low mixed as in DH. When the main theme sounds in Calling All The Guardians, it sounds like Sky Battle.
Desplat has been confirmed to score the next Wes Anderson movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel, with Hugh Boneville, Saoirse Ronan, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Murray. Also, he'll be scoring a french adaptation of Beauty And The Beast, and a new film from the director of La Fille Du Puisatier.
I've been listening to some long samples of Rise Of The Guardians on YouTube. I've listened to the 20 minutes of it like three times, it's just beautiful to listen to.
Desplat is scoring Stephen Frears's Philomena, starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan. Apparently, the complete scores of DH1 and DH2 are out there. No tracklist, but I know that there's 100 cues for part 1, and 53 for part 2. Which it's much more complete than the sheets and the 68 cues demos of DH1 (the demos for DH2 are out there too). Also, Zulu will close Cannes.
John Williams said in a interview for a French magazine that Desplat is one of the new Hollywood composers who he's look up to.
"New techiques, the electronics, the use of computers in their work. Mychael Danna, who just won an Oscar, has created a wonderfully atmospheric music. It's orchestral, but not in a big way: the orchestra is just part of the texture of the sound, and this is something you do not understand thirty years ago. This is an exciting new direction. Alexandre Desplat also made very beautiful things, orchestral or not. I am very attracted by the work of these composers."
Desplat is now scoring the french version of Beauty and the Beast. And once again, he's using the London Voices choir to perform on the score (who is also performing on the latest Hobbit score).
According to IMDB, Desplat would be attached to the new animated film of The Little Prince, voiced by James Franco, Rachel McAdams, Paul Giammati, and Jeff Bridges.
@yonythemoony Just saw The Monuments Men and Alexandre's cameo was great! He had about two small scenes with Matt Damon, and it was great to see him on the big screen!
Also, what address did you use to write to him at? I wrote to him about a year ago and never got a response
