Guys, i finish the book last night and OMG i love so much this book ( Ok not like we have fall in love with HP)
I love the story, the not perfect characters (each have the good side and their bad side), the end all When you began you're like " Ok who will win this local election" and finally you understand that is not the more important of the story ! I read an french fan who say that JK should not be allowed to write other think than HP and i feel sad for him ! Yes like she said this is an adult book, for me it's a mature one ! Ok she speak about sex and ?? May be it's because HP is not really my childhood (because i meet him when i was 22 ) or may be because i'm french and that we could speak free about sex in france without be named "pervers". I cry so much at the end
Me too! The release date they chose falls right when everyone has school or college. I know it is intended for adults, but they knew a lot of JK Rowling fans are younger. I would have read it right away if it were released it during the summer.

I'm with you on this. The reason I haven't had time to read it is because I get essay after essay, and its impossible to find a good chunk of time to read :S
There are so many characters and sometimes I must remind myself whose who but the content is entertaining, although the "old days" section was borng as fuck.

THANK YOU!!! There was too much backstory I skipped it. Im trying to keep up with the characters names and who they are and what they do.

I heard a rumor saying that the little town where Jo grown up think they the inspiration of padford and inform Jo she didn't welcome anymore!! really hope that false because being so stupid should be forbidden ^^
I dont dislike the book I love it actually Im just saying that the cgaracters do get confusing. I need a list of characters lolz
Lol, are there as much characters as in Game of Thrones? Because a made a list of the huge amount of characters in the show so i could remember who they are.
Too much characters and backstory for you, are you kidding? Can you tell me how many character HP have with their own backstories ?
I can understand you dislike the book (that a style so much different) but not for this reason please !!
What a paradox: Here we are flaming critics for comparing it to Harry Potter, but among ourselves we supposedly aren't allowed to dislike aspects of the book that bear resemblance to Harry Potter in some twisted way. So what if the huge chunk of secondary and tertiary characters and back stories benefited and enriched the Harry Potter universe? This is another book, another story, another universe... The characters may not be as memorable and interesting to follow for everyone as those in Harry Potter. Besides, HP is a single protagonist story; it's all about Harry Potter ultimately, whereas The Casual Vacancy has several protagonists as far as I know. So really, his objection is every bit valid if that made the book hard to follow and confusing for him.
@universHarryPotter.c I can see why everyone is saying that the new book has too many characters and it gets confusing. Not that I don't agree with you about Harry Potter having a lot of characters, but when you'll get this new book, you'll see that it differs from HP in that the characters in HP are gradually introduced and you get a backstory, so they are easily memorable. However, the new book abruptly takes you to new scenes with new characters and there's no backstory to make you remember them. It just jumps around (at least in the beginning that I've read) and it can get confusing. You'll see if you read it
I sorry but when you began a new book few author take the time to present you all the characters (except may be Honoré de Balzac) , the proper of an good teller is to take you directly into the story . The backstory in Casual Vacancy come page after page, it's wrote for that you make you a opinion on the character like if you meet them in reality ! like if you were new in town !
I don't think it's confusing maybe because I'm a slow reader.. I usually read a chapter for 2 hours.
It's a new world which has no prequels and sequels unlike Harry. I love how Jo wrote this book.. She didnt follow the Potter, which I think a brave and brilliant act.

My mom just came home with my copy of the book completely out of the blue! I had told her a bit about it and that I was intending on getting it within the nest couple of days. I love her so much
Evanna Lynch @Evy_Lynch 8m The awkward moment when all your life u thought a 'vulva' was a car, then read it in Jo's new book & you discover it is DEFINITELY NOT A CAR!
Evanna Lynch @Evy_Lynch 3m VOLVO = CAR! VULVA = please google that shit............. #SexEdWithJKRowling
She loves the book though:
Evanna Lynch @Evy_Lynch 1m All jokes & car/genital confusion aside,I'm really enjoying The Casual Vacancy at a leisurely reading-pace! JKR's style is rivalled by none.
@godricgryffindor aw that's really sweet of her! glad you got it now
And the way she abruptly introduces new characters with new scenes makes me think of detective stories I've read by Agatha Christie like Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Has anyone else read those?
I got the tickets in the two hour block before they sold out when they were released 12 hours earlier than expected. Don't even get me started on the drama behind that whole incident though o_O
And if anyone wins, just to let you know, if you want your book signed, you can't bring in an outside copy, you have to buy it there. That's why I haven't bought mine yet
It is good but it is not for everyone and I can see why. I like bits and pieces but the confusion of whose who doesnt make it as enjoyable as it could be.
It's consensus. Majority of the people didn't enjoy it. Why are they stupid? Maybe you are a fan and that's it.
Agreed. I don't understand the bewilderment with the negative consensus. As if the book was so amazing.
Read the book and find out if it is so amazing.
I'm in the process of reading the book, and it's incredibly dull. It's taking a while to finish, because I have to read a novel for school, and because it's so hard to get through. I'm stupid.
Most of the people who have already read the book are probably Harry Potter fans. And most of them are not enjoying it. Just because of that they are stupid? At least they truth to their selves to criticize a J.K. Rowling's novel.
Would you like it if it wasn't written by J.K. Rowling? For me, stupid is being a blind fan.

It has been a while I haven't seen such a low rating for a book.
