Errgghhhmagerd. Why is this show so perfect? Top performances from all the characters, especially Billie Piper. I'm sad to see Eccleston go, but yay, Tennant! The whole Bad Wolf arc was brilliant, the Daleks...I never thought I could take them seriously with their corny voices, but holy balls, they are terrifying, I love them. I am in love with this show, and I'm so glad I bought it all. Consider me a Whovian. Why did it take so long for me to get into this? I also could never take my eyes away from Jack Harkness's ass.
I also could never take my eyes away from Jack Harkness's ass.
Lol. Kids these days. All about the ass. Then you'll be pleased to know John Barrowman's gay. He almost got the part of Will in Will & Grace but was passed over for "not being gay enough". So the part went to a straight man. That's network television for you.
Just saw The Campaign. Well Ferrell does it again. He always plays the same character (Stranger Than Fiction notwithstanding), but by God it always works. The comedy was far too extreme to take seriously as a satire of American politics, but who cares when you're laughing this hard? Mr Ferrell, Mr Galifianakis, my hat's off to you both. And to baby-punching!
Just returned from a snap decision to see The Expendables 2 with my uni friends. Holy hell, what a great decision. This movie is completely and utterly ridiculous. But it's also completely awesome. Just...wow. Brilliant film. 8/10
The action was ok but there was no story. It was buried within the action it as as if they did the action scenes then they figured out a "story" to go with those action scenes, thats how it felt like to me lol.
V/H/S - We watched this tonight and I enjoyed it. Amateur Night was a decent opener, with realistically drawn characters (we all know people like these douches) and a nice payoff. The Strange Thing That Happened to Emily is a series of Skype conversations which I found especially intriguing, with a nice twist, and leaving you with plenty of questions to mull over. I felt genuinely bad for Emily.
As a fan of Ti West's classic, slow-burn approach to the horror genre (and one of the reasons I was interested in the film to begin with) I was looking forward to his short in this anthology. However, Second Honeymoon was one of the weaker segments for me. Seemed a little out of place, and the payoff wasn't worth the journey. It had great atmosphere though, typical of his work.
10/31/98 I actually loved, classic demonic haunted house, with some nice effects put to good use, and suspenseful. Tuesday the 17th was pretty random, nothing particularly new, but I liked the effect of the killer and I guess I'll remember it when I'm wandering in the woods next.
6.5/10
Keith Lemon: The Film - Unfunny, like Keith Lemon himself. 0/10
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope - 7.5/10 Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back - 7.5/10 Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi - 7/10 Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace - 6/10 Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones - 6.5/10 Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - 7.5/10
It really is a pain how the prequels have the best visuals, because at times it's just so awe-inspiring for such bland movies (the prequels.) Anyways, RotS is a huge step up from AotC and especially the Phantom Menace. However, visuals aside, the originals just have so much more going for them. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are a dream team whereas Natalie Portman is wooden, Hayden Christenson tries too hard and is almost laughable (and don't even get me started on Jake Lloyd, who plays young Anakin in TPM) and Ewan McGregor is simply okay (good at times though.) The originals also had better music, more fun and, um, Darth Vader.
All in all, originals are great films and the prequels are simply okay (until Revenge of the Sith, which is pretty good.) It really is a fun series to behold though. I had a blast watching them.
Doctor Who Series Two 9/10 Loved it so much. David Tennant IS the Doctor. No question at all. That finale. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I loved it. And I cried so hard. Sobbing, right up until the end, when a wild Catherine Tate appeared, at which point I fistpumped the air and actually screamed "YEESSSSS!" Dear sweet Cthulhu, this show is perfect.
Yeah, it's not fantastic acting, but it's a hell of a lot more fun then the prequels, not to mention Hamill, Fisher and Ford have much more chemistry than Christensen and Portman and the "emotional" and "romantic" scenes in the prequels were laughable and dumb.
Fuck...Doctor Who, series four, disc four. 'Silence in the Library' 7/10 'Forest of the Dead' 9/10 'Midnight' 10/10 Yes, I'm reviewing the three episodes. Not the whole series, because I've only just finished Midnight, and I'm just too blown away by this whole disc. Jesus...Okay, Silence in the Library was good, and I was kept so intrigued by everything, and I loved the concept of a invisible shadow creatures. And the whole 'two shadows' thing. But then Forest of the Dead, everything was just mindrapingly awesome. I was spending the entire time trying to piece it together, and then Moffat still fucked me over with his genius. But fuck...it was in Midnight that everything went insane. It was just so freaking terrifying, keeping me on the edge of my seat. So much suspense. It was completely and utterly brilliant. If Moffat had written this episode, I'd be traumatised. That...thing....possessing her, repeating everyone. And then speaking in perfect sync....so scary. And then it spoke BEFORE the Doctor, I lost my shit. Fuck. Such a brilliant episode.
This was on the television last night and thought seeing as Jennifer Lawrence was in it, I'd give it a watch. Probably not my type of story so it didn't interest me that much although Jen was great, no wonder she was nominated.
On the subject of Jen-Law, David O'Russell (The Fighter) just premiered his new film starring Jen, Silver Linings Playbook, at TIFF and it's been getting fantastic response, including a lot of mention for J-Law as a possible Best Actress candidate.
A rewatch only strengthened my impression of it being far superior to The Dark Knight. It is quite an entertaining and moving origin story with clever dialogue and some nice messages and themes without being pretentious like TDK. It has character development in the sense that Bruce learns the difference between revenge and justice and not only overcomes his fear, but also embraces it as a symbol in his fight against injustice, crimes and corruption, which is personally motivated. Its only weakness is, as I've always felt, that it's quite forgettable; when finishing it you feel satisfied, but you soon focus your attention on something else. No scenes really stand out as memorable to me.
Spiderman 2 - 3.5/4
Possibly the best superhero movie there is. Yes, thematically it was more engaging than Batman Begins to me; you really feel bad for Peter Parker and the dilemma he is trapped in between protecting the supposedly ungrateful citizens of the city from crimes and living out his own personal dreams. He seems to be gradually losing his superpowers because he doesn't believe in himself anymore and he is always behind; at school, work and appointments. Time doesn't allow him to succeed both as Spiderman and as Peter Parker. The theme of responsiblity vs. personal desires is not only limited to Peter, but includes the antagonist's situation as well. Another aspect I like about it is that truths from the first movie are revealed, for instance Peter telling his aunt about what really happened when his uncle died and how he feels responsible for his death and his friend Harry finding out that Peter is Spiderman, whom he thinks killed his father.
Set in the red-hot aftermath of the US Civil War, this take-no-prisoners Western is about the building of the Union Pacific Railroad but the clip at which it moves is anything but steady. The setup: deeply likable anti-hero Cullen Bohannon (an ex-Confederate soldier who once owned slaves) takes a job on the railroad to get revenge on the Yankee pricks who killed his family. There, he gets promoted to Foreman, forms an alliance that looks to be turning into a friendship with freedman Elam Ferguson, runs afoul of the Head of Security (a Norwegian they call the Swede) and gets into lots of other mischief, some plausible and some not. Hell on Wheels's main problem is its fierce pace, which hurls plot developments at you like machine-gun volleys and sometimes leaves credibility on the cutting room floor. Still, its anchored by magnificent turns from the Big Strong Men at its core (perfect cowboy Asnon Mount as Bohannon, a ferociously proud Common as Ferguson), and isn't afraid to blur the lines between heroes and villains. Now, a pun to finish: ride this train, people!
Resident Evil: Retribution(Paul W. S. Anderson, 2012) Bad movies can actually entertain you - as the previous films of the series. Over here, it's not the case. 1/4
How I Met Your Mother - Farhampton I just started watching How I Met Your Mother this year but watching what feels to be the first episode of the last season is really heartbreaking! This was the third time I've ever cried watching How I Met Your Mother. I just hope this season gets funnier that what's in the first episode, because in the dramatic part, it has already pretty much made up for a whole season.
2 Broke Girls - And the Hidden Stash Season 2 kicks off with a hilarious episode! It was hysterical! I'm so glad the show is remaining just as funny as it was in the first season and I hope it keeps as successful! I love this show with all my heart!
Partners - Pilot A cute little pilot, despite that gay character that's extremely annoying. But it has some potential so I'll give it a shot and see where it goes.
Glee season 4 episode 1 I know many people think Glee is crap and i admit the show isn't great but it's still entertaining to see. Loved the premiere of the new season because it felt more focused. Many characters have left the school so they aren't featured anymore. The new characters felt like Rachel 2.0, Puck 2.0, Quinn 2.0 but that changed somewhat in the second episode. Rachels NY storyline was quite interesting even if i don't like Rachel that much. Kate Hudson is quite entertaining to watch. 7/10
Glee season 4 episode 2 Rachel's NY storyline was still interesting but some of the storylines were quite bad in this episode. While i really loved Santana's and Puck's cameos, Puck's cameo felt really out of place. But still it was a decent episode, given the fact it was a Britney Spears centered episode. 6/10

I really loved the first episode too @mattStrelow. It was really emotional, especially the last 5 minutes or so. Not a great laugh this one but there are still funny moments here and there and I love these kind of episodes too with the more dramatic kind of story. Oh and Thomas Lennon as Klaus, that just made me so happy, I love that guy. Sad that it looks like it'll be the last season
I agree with you guys. I can't even put into words the feeling I got when that song played at the end. Such an emotional and awesome song! It's The Funeral by Band of Horses.
I agree with you guys. I can't even put into words the feeling I got when that song played at the end. Such an emotional and awesome song! It's The Funeral by Band of Horses.
I could not agree more. The song was perfect in every way.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film and the way it was done was great. At first I questioned how they would make it work not going in order of those 500 days but alternating from one day in the future and then going back to a day in the past, it worked very well in the end. Zoey and Joseph's chemistry was great and I'm in love with the two of them now. A simple but romantic and comedic film that was very satisfying.
Somewhat interesting film about a paranoid schizophrenic (starring Ralph Fiennes) who replays a part of his childhood. The acting is great and the atmosphere bleak, but it's occasionally quite boring, slow and hard to connect to emotionally. It's predictable in the sense that you instantly know he has lost his grip on reality, and as such the twist isn't so effective, but it answers at the very least the question you have been wondering about throughout the film of what really happened in his childhood. I had a theory which turned out to be right in the end, but I won't spoil it for those of you who haven't seen it. The characterizations were nonetheless interesting and complex and there is a clever visual clue that reveals what memories are real or not (which I won't spoil). Overall my opinion is mixed; it's an interesting character study film that may improve on subsequent viewings, but it's not particularly compelling.
Had a movie marathon with a couple mates over the past day. 17 hours of movies all jammed into one day. We had some great films to watch, I'll just give some short summary's of my opinions on the films.
Catch Me If You Can
A really entertaining film to watch and one of my favoruite Spielberg movies of all time.
9/10
The Shawshank Redemption
Wow! Absolutely amazed by this one.I had been waiting a long time to see this and now that I have it's up there with one of my all time favourite films, it was such an encapturing and wonderful film.
9.5/10
Pulp Fiction
Might be a classic but it wasn't my kind of film, it had its moments but it wasn't very enjoyable for me.
5/10
Fight Club
Probably one of the weirdest films I've seen yet it was surprisingly good. All I knew going into this film really was something about a Fight Club but I never thought it was going to be that different to what I had imagined it would be but in the end, I was very much impressed.
7.5/10
Se7en
This was also a pleasent surprise and after seeing this along with Fight Club I have a much bigger liking to David Fincher and especially with Brad Pitt, from what I've seen of him, this is some of his best work that I've seen.
7/10
The Woman In Black
Now I'm glad I watched this with a couple mates because I got a little more scared than I thought I would. It had its moments that really got you and then some that didn't but overall, a good story and a pretty good horror film. Dan's portrayal of Arthur was mediocre.
7/10
V For Vendetta
I don't know if I can really give my full opinion on this one seeing as I watched half of it at around 2am and the rest when I woke up and the first half is a little hazy in my memory as I was half asleep but from what I can remember of it all, it was a pretty good film with some solid performances, I especially enjoyed V.

7.5/10
I just recently watched this. Great movie, but the (unoriginal) twists were not the least surprising.
I thought it was great. I heard it was marketed wrongly as an ultra violent movie primarily about a fight club, but while there were some really violent and gory scenes, it's ignorant to claim that the violence is gratuitous. It serves as the characters' underlying drive in the story as a way to find excitement in life. It's a satirical movie about our consumer society and most importantly it's about existentialism, but the character's means to find meaning in life are ultimately self-destructive...and to what extent we first find out in the end. Personally, I saw that ending coming, but I suppose I wouldn't if I didn't know there were twists in it. That made me quite alert to picking up hints and 2/3 into it I figured it out, especially since that kind of twist has been done several times before. I don't think that's a weakness per se as it was quite appropriate in emphasizing that the movie was about existentialism at its core even though the character hardly realized once he started breaking free through the stimulating violence, but his lack of meaning in life was actually what triggered everything that happened in the film.
Smiley Whoa. This was literally the worst movie I've ever seen. There is absolutely nothing rewarding about it. It's dumb, boring, poorly acted, badly written and laughably unscary. I thought this would be actually cool because TotallySketch's youtube videos are pretty good, but this suffers exactly from looking like and overly long Youtube video. It's horrendously shot. I should have known since the beginning. When a movie throws 3 really stupid jump scares in the first 8 minutes, you know it's going to turn out bad. I tried to give it a chance, but it's just that bad. I could spend the whole day here writing about how terrible it is, but I'll just wrap it up warning you guys: DO NOT WATCH THIS SHIT. 0/10

Mysterious thing time.
Nice performances can only paper over a forgettable script for so long, before the whole thing vanishes into a standard-to-sub-par sci-fi actioner which utterly fails to exploit the mindfuck premise of the Philip K. Dick source story, to an even greater extent than even the ridiculous 80s Arnold-stravaganza this new film follows in the wake of. And while the three-boobed chick makes a gratuitous appearance early on, that's about as fun as this reboot gets. In the Schwarzenegger film he shoots Sharon Stone in the head and quips, "Consider that a divorce." Not a single line in the new one approaches that level of hee-haw - which would be fine if it was clever enough to take itself as seriously as it does. It isn't, though. Still, if all you're after is a bit of shootin', biffin', boomin' and crashin', this should get you squared away. If you want to give a shit, though, go watch A Game of Shadows again.

Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher part of a dream team? By the gods almighty their acting was just as bad as anything in the prequel.

I hope they don't keep Marshall and Lily as "one entity" now that they have Marvin. Their subplot in this episode was horrible.
