LMAO. What??? "Real Medal Count"? Americans are so desperate that they are trying to take the merits of Chine in others sports. That's the most ridiculous article that I've ever read.
- Brazil won against Argentina in Men's Volleyball by 3x0. - USA is playing against Italy in Men's Volleyball. 1x0 to Italy so far. The winner will face Brazil in the semi-final. - France is playing against Spain in Men's Basketball.
Well technically they just took out sports that results are based on judging. Like you complained that Conor should have had a better score than Raisman. EXACTLY. The judges judged that way, and many people have different views on who did better.

Okay. So you guys are basically complaining about the hegemony of China in two sports. Fine. Take out the 16 gold medals - 30 in total - that the USA won in Swimming, and compare it.
The article is totally unfair. Of course, China does great in some sports. As other nations does beautifully in others. Like USA in Basketball and Swimming, South Korea in Shooting, UK in Cycling.
Some nations are hegemony in sports, others aren't. So unfair and ridiculous the tone of the article. It appears to be an excuse of someone who doesn't accept losing.
And reading the comments of readers about the article, I'm not the only one who thought that it is totally ridiculous.
And regarding Catalina Ponor... Well.. I'm not a gymnastics judge. In my opinion she did better than Raisman, but maybe her series wasn't as hard as Raisman.
I was a joke, Henny! Don't take it serious. I just thought it was an interesting article. I mean by taking out gymnastics, USAs medal count went down, and by taking out diving China's did. But by taking out subjective sports, seeing the medal count is interesting.
"Four years ago in Beijing, the U.S. finished with the most medals, 110, which was 10 clear of China. However, the Chinese finished well clear in terms of gold, winning by 51 to 36. "
"Yahoo! Sports predicts that [this year] the Americans will end on 97 medals: 43 gold, 26 silver and 28 bronze; with China ending up on 90: 40 gold, 26 silver and 24 bronze. "
"The United States will have few complaints though, as it prepares to top the medal table and the gold-medal count for the fourth time in the last five Games"
While Americans and Chinese keep worrying about being in first place in medal count, people from other nationality just get happy with a simple medal. For Brazilians, every medal is a victory and a celebration and we couldn't care less about the count.
Every medal for you is just another one. You guys have won, so far, 83 medals. I doubt you know all the athletes and categories. We won just 10, and we know every athlete and the sport. For example, a bronze medal for the US/ China is "just one more", for other nations is a conquest.
I'm just saying that instead of being worried about the first place or medal count, you should praise every athlete and forget about this silly "competition" with China for what nation is the best in sports. xD

Who says I am the one saying these things? I'm just posting random interesting tidbits I find online. I like seeing other people's opinions. I'm pretty sure that if Brazil was a 1st place overall Olympic Medals contender, you would be excited and want to win too. It's about pride and nationalism. I'm proud of the United States, whether it be 83 medals or 10.
Hm. We think different. We prefer to cheer for a particular game or sport (like right now in the Women's Volleyball semi-final; or the Men's soccer final on Saturday; or Men's Beach Volleyball final today) then for the medal count. We cheer for the games, not for the medal count. I don't even know Brazil's position in the medal count. LMAO

Um, I'm pretty sure that you are misunderstanding me. I cheer for the games, not the medal count. What I am saying is that if your medal count was very high, you would probably follow it too. Just like in a match, it is all about anticipation to see who is currently in the lead. Even if it is not the US who is winning, I am still excited. A couple of businesses over here have signs that display the medal counts. A lot of websites have the medal count on their homepage. Olympic fever is everywhere. Forgive me for being interested in the results..
Well. Basically, every post of yours over here is about the medal count. I don't see you commenting the games and other stuff. But you don't need to get irritated, Sarah. We are just healthy debating

I've posted like two or three times about the medal count, and that is mainly the journalists' opinions are entertaining. You're not hating on Vanessa for constantly updating on the french medal count. Did you not read me cheering about the women's artisitic gymnastics? I was following them constantly online. Or all of the world-record swimmers and runners? I do not have tv so I cannot actually watch the games. I have to wait for youtube/sports videos to become availble, but London has confiscated a lot of them already.

Wow wow. I'm not hating no one in here. I'm just giving my opinion in a reasonable way. Besides, Vanessa doesn't post that France should be in first place, that France is the best, and bla bla bla. xD
As I wrote, I just think that the game itself is much more important than the medal count. ^^

Nor did I say that we should be in first place, nor that we were the best, and nor did I blah, blah, blah.

Mysterious thing time.
Kidding, by the way, everyone. Don't internet hate-rape me. I don't need another overreaction over something I wasn't even being serious about.
