Just got my new Entertainment Weekly in the mail, and I'm very pleased, it's a special issue with Prometheus on the cover. The article is great, and what makes me even more excited is this little bit:
Alien isn't the only film Ridley Scott is revisiting. The director says that he's been busy developing a sequel or a prequel (he doesn't know which yet) to his other sci-fi masterpiece, 1982's Blade Runner. "I'm meeting with writers, and I've also gone back to [original coscreenwriter] Hampton Fancher, and he still speaks the speak," says Scott. The filmmaker is quick to shoot down rumors that he's had discussions with Harrison Ford about reprising his trench-coated role as futuristic detective Rick Deckard. But Scott won't rule out a reunion, either. "I'm not sure that's going to be a story point....But if it were, nothing would please me more."
I would also argue that Aliens has better dialogue. It's one of the most memorable films when it comes to lines.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Aliens pretty much consist of extremely cheesy lines? I mean, the military guys are just a bunch of badly written stereotypes.
"You know, Burke, I don't know which species is worse. You don't see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage."
One of my favorites. Aliens came out at a time when people were actually having fun and being entertained by movies and not every line of dialogue had to be Shakespeare. In Aliens, characters say things that real people would in each situation they're in.
That, and I can't really think of any memorable dialogue in Alien. Sometimes colorful, well placed, timed, and acted dialogue can make a world of difference and determine how memorable a line is. There's more to it than just good writing. I think something is well written if it makes me laugh or stays with me.
Best score of the year so far. Easy. I'm sure TDKR and Amazing Spider-man will be huge contenders as well as The Hobbit and Skyfall but this is a very different kind of score than those.
So far this is very atmospheric and while certain aspects are reminiscent of the older ALIEN scores, it's also unique.

Hudson - Why don't you just put her in charge?
But it's not so much the writing, but the extremely good, heating deliveries from all the actors.
Right, right. Somebody said alien and she thought they said "illegal alien" and signed up.
Prometheus has moved up my anticipated list to right behind Rises/Spidey and just ahead of The Hobbit.
