Regarding your arguments, I couldn't disagree more. Most of the times, Transformers is criticized for being loud, noisy, megalomanic. And if you read my little review paying attention, what I said was that Avengers features the same noise, loud scenes, where even the cinematography is kinda similar. It's basically a similar experience. And I wrote that the only difference and what makes Avengers a better experience is the humor.
The charisma in the Avengers is much more a result for the background and history of every character than a merit of the movie itself. They were always beloved characters.
Avengers is an average movie, with some entertaining moments and nothing more. At least for me. And yes, because of it's approach, messy plotline and narrative, standard action sequences and moments, I don't see anything wrong on putting it next to Transformers.

Lots of action movies have loud noises and sounds, it's an action movie. The difference is that Avengers has a character and plot to it. Transformers is all over the place with nothing to tie it together, littered with plot holes. Avengers has none of that.

Because it's the background knowledge of the characters and seeing all their different personalities clash and eventually blend that make them charming and enjoyable, unlike anything in the shit that comes from Transformers.

Okay, now you've lost me at standard action sequences. I don't know montages of the different heroes working together, and at times by themselves, was standard. Now that's just lost on me. There's an actual reason for what each character is doing! Iron Man attacks from the sky and makes sure they don't leave the city, Cap and Widow fight from the ground, Hawkeye nails them as he can from roofs, and Hulk and Thor do their things. People move around and do certain jobs and it all flows and they each a reason for doing what they are doing. In Transformers it's "OMG RUN HERE OKAY RUN HERE OKAY FOCUS ON THE HUMANS WITH TINY GUNS THAT HAVE NO EFFECT ON GIANT ROBOTS INSTEAD OF THE ACTUAL ROBOTS BECAUSE ITS FUN TO SEE THEM SLIDE IN A BUILDING BEING SLICED IN HALF, OKAY OVER HERE, OVER BOOM EXPLOSION RUN THAT WAY OKAY BOOM SLAM BAM EXPLOSION."
Everyone was saying that Chronicle looked like a terrible movie. But then people watched it. And everyone's all like 'Zoh my God, yes!!'. Still haven't seen it yet...

I'm feeling the same as you did right now. I couldn't sleep last night because all I could think of was this movie. It really affected me.
The Avengers was a spectacular feast for the eyes and ears. The idea of these heroes existing in the same world and even cooperating was fun and milked for all it's worth. In fact, it seemed like the director set out to make the biggest blockbuster ever, which is why it stumbles when it gets to the endless climax even topping Helm's Deep in boredom. Yes, the explosions were bigger, there were hundreds of sea-looking monsters in the air, the heroes were as cool as ever, the stakes were higher than most films, but you don't doubt for a second that they won't manage to save the world. You always know that despite the extremely low odds, you can expect some implausible plot twist or turn to happen in the nick of time. You never once fear for the life of these flawless heroes. That is, except for one crucial moment which I felt apathetic towards because it just seemed so conveniently played up and manipulative from the filmmakers throughout the film. The pay-off to that moment also felt jarring because it was treated so self-ironically in poking fun at a standard movie convention they had just played up. That is sort of a represantative problem for the film as a whole; it predictably follows standard movie conventions, but in a way that makes you unsure about how seriously you are meant to take it; there are bits of smart and reflective dialogue in-between the implausible action scenes, but some of the dialogue was confusing with so many names and blablabla talk that could have been condensed, whereas the action made you completely forget about those moments of wisdom. Put together it was hard to give the film any sort of credibility because it's only a fun mindless action blockbuster with no rules and in turn no suspense because everything seems possible. It's basically an exercise in topping everything seen before in explosions and supernatural skills. Now do get me right; for fans of Marvel I'm sure it was a treat. Prior knowledge of those other films certainly makes for a more fulfilling movie experience for many, just not for someone seeing right through the trickery in making the audience focus on the fun concept and references and forget about the overall quality of the film. A friend of mine who is Marvel fan apparently fell victim to the belief that it is the best movie ever made. Chuckling aside, I too appreciated it for its entertainment values in showing off Marvel's famous heroes in spectacular action...TOGETHER! By the way, that theme of cooperation needed to be integrated into the storyline a bit more subtly. However, in the end it was just an entertaining excuse for a movie.
My Week with Marilyn(Simon Curtis, 2011) The direction might be a little bland and the script suffers from the lack of a dramatic curve, but My Week with Marilyn is an unforgettable experience thankful to Michelle Williams performance that captures the essence of Marilyn Monroe perfectly.
The Avengers - 7/10. Definitely the most stylish and enjoyable Marvel movie to date, but very, VERY overhyped and overrated. At this point, we should be expecting this type of slick fun, action and style that comes with blockbusters such as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. The script was smart and the actors great, and the film was filled with loud noises, fun effects and fantastic set pieces. Action was spectacular. However, it did suffer from the Marvel-film-feeling I've gotten ever since Iron Man 1, which is a bland, empty and lackluster soul. It's smooth, it's fun and exciting, but it's very American and tries to be all about teamwork and fun and it really doesn't have anything deeper. The plot is all over the place and it all just felt like they were sitting around until the battle started. Obviously the climax was the best part of the film, with rip-roaring sound, fun battle sequences and fantastic imagery. The 3D conversion was fine and fit the style of the film well, however it did make the screen much smaller and down-scaled the film.
Overall consensus: Fun, enjoyable, however seems obselete around the middle, and is EXTREMELY overrated. Great blockbuster though.

I hadn't seen this movie in a long time and was glad to have got to watch it with a special someone last evening. This movie is at the top of my list when it comes to Burton movies. This has a different look, feel, atmosphere, story, and music to it than most of his other work. There are still little bits of evidence to fit it into his work but I really value how unique this movie is. Johnny Depp creates a character that could otherwise be one dimensional into multiple layers and yet remains interesting with a smile on his face. Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi is a heartbreakingly well done performance of the classic horror film icon. The rest of the supporting cast minus Sarah Jessica Horse Face Parker lol was very well acted. The one thing that I adored about it hands down was the cinematography. The lighting, the atmosphere, silhouetting figures in shots, up close and personal shots and the black and white just made me adore the way the movie was set up. Shot by shot it enthralled me. As far as the story goes it makes a full circle. In the end you get to find out what happens to each of the people even if it is a tad bit depressing. Overall its a quirky classic nod to a director who was declared the worst in Hollywood many years ago and now his films have found new life with current generations. Also, this being one of the few films without Danny Elfman, Howard Shore still impresses as always with his score for this movie.

Anyways, I watched 50/50 Great dramedy, which you don't find a whole lot of nowadays. All the performances were great, and the script was very well-written. It obviously got more dramatic later on in the film, and then the comedy kind of diminishes, but I laughed at lot at this movie, and the drama was perfectly developed. I think I call this a great mix!
HOLY SHIT. Cuaron is freaking incredible I can not even describe. The way he directs this movie is astonishing. it looked so nice and clear on blu ray and the feeling of the movie was very depressing and realistic. I loved it. The story was great and all, but I WANTED MORE LOL.

The ending was abrupt to me and I wanted to know more info about the pandemic that hit the world.
An intentional closing point. The whole point of the story was that the birth of the child is going to bring a shitload of hope to everyone. The climax was the crying of the baby being powerful enough to silence a war. It wasn't about what the pandemic was or if it even gets resolved.

Just finished watching The Iron Lady. Wow. Loved it. Meryl was amazing, of course, and Jim Broadbent was quite excellent too. I remember the trailer kind of made it look like it was as sympathetic tribute to her success as Prime Minister, which was quite jarring, but the film does NOT do that. It made her look so twisted and insane. Man, that lady was deranged. But Meryl played her beautifully. 9/10
21 Jump Street(2012, Phil Lord, Chris Miller) While the humor is a little bit unbalanced, the chemistry between Hill and Tatum is strong enough to entertain you and make you laugh. Not a remarkable experience, but certainly a fun one.
This was a fun and enjoyable experience filled with great humor and a great cast. Didn't know much about this movie before I went in except that it was about a five year engagement and that Jason Segel was in it. Being a fan of him from 'How I Met Your Mother' I thought his portrayal of his character Tom was great and his personality really works well in this movie. Emily Blunt's portrayal of her character Violet was also very well done. I thought both their characters really worked well together and had great chemistry. Also was a pleasant surprise to see Rhys Ifans in the movie as well.
Piranha 3DD - 2/5 - I did enjoy Piranha 3D so I thought I'd give this a whirl, but it lacked the entertainment factor of the first, it looked cheap, the comedy wasn't funny, the climax was underwhelming, but Danielle Panabaker has aged well and Gary Busey got a laugh out of me.
Battleship(Peter Berg, 2012) Although the invasion scene is nicely choreographed and edited, the only thing I got watching Battleship was a terrible headache. Noisy, loud and frenetic, the inevitable comparison to Transformers is redundant. Voldemort would say: "They never learn".
There's a 15-20 minute stretch in Woman in Black that I suppose is one of the most effectively scary sequences in any horror movie in the past decade because the director understands tension and suspense building.
