Most of the critics didn't get to see it at their advance screenings, but moviegoers will be treated to an extra dose of The Avengers this weekend just when they think they've seen everything. You probably know by now to stay through the credits for any Marvel movie, since that's where they toss in the Easter Eggs that set up what's to come-- Thor's hammer at the end of Iron Man 2, the Avengers teaser after Captain America, etc. And if you stick around through the animated, fancy credits at the end of The Avengers, you'll see what all the critics have already seen-- and what I'd be crazy to spoil right here. But if you stick around, watch all the credits roll on the black screen, wait until they're sweeping the theater-- that's when you'll see something really special, according to Chris Campbell, who caught a screening that included one last scene
What's the scene? You're definitely going to have to find out for yourself, and let us know if it is in fact the extra scene that Robert Downey Jr. said they were filming in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. Of course, there's bound to be somewhere else on the Internet willing to spoil it, so feel free to Google away and find out the answer if that suits you. But there's so much delight to be had in The Avengers in its actual running time-- why would you deny yourself the pleasure of one last surprise before leaving the theater? I'm already itching to see The Avengers again, and while I wouldn't normally brave the opening weekend crowds to see a movie a second time, I might be tempted just to solve the mystery of this bonus scene that's got everybody talking.
If you've seen this extra scene as well, please resist the urge to spoil it in the comments. The Avengers is coming to theaters this Friday in such a glow of happiness, optimism, and sheer movie-loving joy that spoilers are against the entire spirit of the thing, don't you think?
Droping in to say I saw it on Monday night. Fantastic movie, I am sure the majority of ppl here will enjoy it. It has so much awesomness at one point I asked myself: This is only ONE movie right? I cant wait for ppl in the States to see it.

Well just like all the "extra" scenes in the other Marvel movies it probably won't amount to much. I did read a possible description and believe me, like I said... nothing to get your panties in a bunch over.

So I saw The Avengers at midnight and it was my first. My Thoughts: BEST FUCKING ACTION MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! The script and dialogue was brilliant, all the actors did their best and the pace was perfect! My audience was soooo great (theater was full) and they made the experience unforgettable! My favorite character was Tony Stark/Iron Man and Black Widow whom really surprised me at a couple of scenes! The last 30 minutes was crazy shit! The 3D was useless and adding nothing to the movie but whatever. I would definitely see it again if I can.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Iron Man and his fellow avengers are off to a solid start as they bring their save-the-world act to U.S. theaters.
"The Avengers" launched domestically early Friday with $18.7 million from midnight screenings. That puts it at No. 8 all-time for midnight debuts, just behind the $19.7 million start for "The Hunger Games" in March.
But it's well under half the amount for the No. 1 midnight draw — the "Harry Potter" finale last fall with $43.5 million.
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" also went on to the biggest domestic opening weekend ever with $169.2 million.
While "The Avengers" started modestly compared with the last "Harry Potter" flick, it still may end up among the top weekend openings ever. "The Hunger Games" followed its midnight start with a $152.3 million debut weekend, the No. 3 opening behind "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" and "The Dark Knight" at $158.4 million.
Produced by Disney's Marvel Studios unit, "The Avengers" already is a blockbuster overseas, where it opened last week in 39 markets.
Disney reported that through Thursday, "The Avengers" had taken in $304 million internationally. In barely a week, "The Avengers" has pulled in far more overseas than some of Marvel Studios' earlier releases in their entire run, including "Iron Man," ''Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger."
-- Well, I doubt it's going to pass Potter's record, but it should match The Hunger Games with around $150m-$160m.
Saw it a midnight today and it was AWESOMELY EPIC!!! To the people who are hating on this movie needs to f**k off because yall wouldnt know a good movie if it bit you in the ass. Marvel has set the level for their films, the 3D was kind of helpful to the environment and some scenes i think the 3D went out of focus.
I give the film 5 out of 5 stars.

Well, there was already a after credits scenes which is important. This is more like "All but US are going to see the movie first, what about if we screw them and we shot another end credits scene that can be seen only here"?
A huge dissapointment for me too... Average blockbuster :-/ Yeah it had good dialogue and characters development but the story was just mehh.. like every other blockbuster... And it looked cliché for me.. anyway!
Good point; the new trailer of Prometheus was AMAZING O_O people screamed lol
Saturday Update: With $80.5 million in the bank on Friday, The Avengers is poised to top the $169.2 million opening weekend record set by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 last July. We are projecting $185 million by the end of the weekend.
Damn, now the box office automatically makes it better!
I think Yates said it best when he was asked about box office. It's gonna make money. And new movies will make more. And newer than those will make more. And inflation will rise. And it'll make more.

Yes, but I'm an avid box office fan, and I'm allowed to feel sad that Avengers will break Potter's record. And nobody said the box office made the film better.

Hell my friend was pissed off when he found out that DH2 made more money than the TDK in the box office

Clever. They divert everyone's attention elsewhere so that they don't notice that the headbutt doesn't make contact.
