yes. this is what happens when a great director actually makes a sci-fi/horror film instead of some forgettable indie trash. people actually give a fuck.

people are like OH YEAH... THIS IS WHAT WELL MADE SCIENCE FICTION FILMS WERE LIKE 20 YEARS AGO... FUCK I FORGOT I WAS TOO BUSY BEING BRAINWASHED BY ETERNAL SUNSHINE AND LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE
The "indie trash" movies you are talking about are much better than many summer blockbuster movies.
Not in my experience. Anyway I hate the term "summer blockbuster" because it belittles the filmmaking that actually goes into them. I would agree that some of them are better than something like Transformers, but "summer blockbusters" also include Harry Potter, The Dark Knight, Prometheus -- what if the Lord of the Rings movies release during the summer, those would be "summer blockbusters" too and yet one of them won best picture. As far as I recall, Gladiator was also a summer blockbuster. Best picture.
If someone told me with a straight face that they would rather watch something like Eternal Sunshine than Prometheus, I would be looking dead-on at the mouth of a giant pussy.
ok how many people want me to do a voldy video about the rating contreversy i may do one just for fun leaving my own opinion out of it if this post gets enough likes
DO IT
Guys, apparently the rating will be announced this week!
That means that they probably won't cut shit now. I heard they sent 3 different versions of the movie to the MPAA to get a lower rating. Now Scott might be thinking: FUCK THIS. YAY
The Hangover films did not do well. The first one grossed $467 million worldwide and the second grossed $581 million. Neither of them even crossed $300 million domestically. The highest R-rated film on the highest-grossing films of all time (worldwide) is the Matrix Reloaded at $742 million, the #42 spot.
Also keep in mind that these successful R-rated films are big event films, like stellar comedies such as the Hangover, popular sequels such as the Hangover Part II, religious epics like Passion of the Christ and sci-fi blockbusters like the Matrix.
Prometheus looks to be another sci-fi epic blockbuster and it will be successful with the amazing marketing campaign and the success of Ridley Scott and the Alien films on its shoulders. However, the rating, as much as it is a relief, will drive away most common moviegoers apart from Ridley Scott and Alien fanboys, and result in a lower gross.
