Francis Lawrence and Bennett Miller are apparently in the Catching Fire diretion race too.
BENNETT MILLER! HE DIRECTED MONEYBALL!!!
Loll, god I love that movie so much, instantly my all time favorite sports movie and also an all time favorite. If DH2 hadn't also been out the same year Moneyball would've been my #1 of the year by a mile. Idk how he'd go from that to an action sci-fi character drama, lolll, he's good with characterization but I don't fucking care because Moneyball was gold.
If they choose Lawrence James Newton Howard will definetely continue in the franchise. He scored I Am Legend and Water For Elephants, and those are some of the best recent JNH scores (Especially with I Am Legend's complete score), só Lawrence will Make him do a even better score for Catching Fire.
Francis Lawrence would actually be a decent choice, but Bennett Miller is just a huge surprise. Catching Fire would be entirely different to anything he's ever worked on.
Also, apparently the German Amazon site has said that they've pushed back the The Hunger Games DVD release date for Germany from the 23rd of August to the 20th of September. I've never seen a movie get released so late.
The race to replace Gary Ross as director of The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire is likely between Moneyball director Bennett Miller and Francis Lawrence, who most recently directed Water for Elephants and who handled a big scale movie in I Am Legend. I’m told that Lionsgate also met with The Orphanage helmer Juan Antonio Bayona, and that they also discussed Attack The Block director Joe Cornish. But Bayona appears to be busy–though he’s not completely out of it–and Cornish didn’t get to the point of a meeting. If I had to guess, I would think the likely candidate to be Miller, who’s coming off such an impressive film. He’s very picky, but word is he is quite interested in replacing Ross in Catching Fire. The sticking point: he wanted to push until spring so he could make Foxcatcher for Fox. Lionsgate wants to start by August and doesn’t want to wait. That could put Lawrence in the driver’s seat. We should know the answer in a matter of days and possibly before the week is out.
I'm fine with Lawrence. He may not have a distinctive directorial style, but I loved Water for Elephants. I don't want to watch it again out of fear of finding potential flaws.
I have to say that I absolutely hate lionsgate for their pathetic job in distributing this film here in Egypt, the film is found in no cinemas near me and about 3 cinemas over all. In contrast to how harry potter was all over the place, nearly every cinema had the film.
This is not how they should treat their blockbuster film, I'm not surprised the film performed poorly overseas.
I know you guys have already seen this but I'd like to point this out: THIS IS THE BEST HUNGER GAMES POSTER OF THEM ALL, WHY DIDN'T THEY USE THIS INSTEAD OF THAT CHEESY BOW ZOOM THING THAT ALREADY HAD BEEN USED IN HANNA AND ROBIN HOOD? THAT ONE WAS A MESS! THIS SHOULD'VE BEEN THE FINAL POSTER!
I was just gonna post about Bennett Miller before Martin did.
Bennett Miller did an amazing job in Moneyball, but the same could be said Catching Fire, but we won't know. I hope Miller becomes director. NOOOOOOO NOT LAWRENCE NOT IN A MILLION FUCKING YEARS. HE IS NOT RIGHT FOR THIS.
With I Am Legend, he brought a empty New York city, one of the best performances by Will Smith and one of the best James Newton Howard scores.
Though Miller has done Moneyball and Capote which brought several Academy nominations, only Lawrence has experience with sci-fi and special effects
People can easily adapt. What was David Yates doing before he directed a mega monster budget blockbuster fantasy? Drama TV Films. Bennett can totally do it.
Yeah, but Yates was brought into OOTP because he had experience with political themes in his movies, which we're a subplot in OOTP.
What I'm saying is that why Lawrence is not fit for CF when he already has experience with sci-fi and blockbusters (not only I Am Legend, he directed the first chapters of Touch).
Pretty sure it's going to be Lawrence. And I'm not particularly pleased. But then again, I wasn't too happy with Ross directing and I was pleasantly surprised, so who knows what will happen.
