I'll return later with my thoughts. Watching The Wire.

After thinking on it, my problems with the movie have vanished. It's terrific and worth every penny to see.

OMG! This movie is one that I'll never forget. There are so many twists and the ending is freakin crazily ridiculous. My audience was fantastic. This movie will probably be my first horror movie to buy on DVD. 8.5/10

That's like saying that a comedy with a lot of high praise wasn't supposed to be funny.
The entire point of the movie is to deconstruct the horror genre. It has all of the cliches that plague the standard slasher movies: virgins, jocks, smart dudes, burn outs, and whores. The characters survive impossible odds because they must. They come back when you least expect them to so the can save someone and then die for real. The best scene to show that characters survive impossible odds is when one of the Buckner's is attacking Dana on the lake's dock. Those controlling the scenario are partying and in the background we see Dana getting her ass beat. She would have been killed from all of those attacks. It becomes even more absurd at the end when she's bitten on the neck by a werewolf and bleeds profusely. She survived! This movie is not supposed to be scary, but instead to be a funny take on the deconstruction of the genre.
Do you think Shaun of the Dead was supposed to be scary?

Yeah, I got that, but it didn't make it good, or smart. In fact, I thought it was pretty fucking stupid. I don't see how taking cliches and then writing in something else happening instead of that cliche is smart. That would be pretty easy to do if you sat down and tried. Therefore I didn't think it was a horror movie because the primary goal and point of a horror movie is to be scary. Had it had its moments of being scary while at the same time playing on cliches without a ridiculous story, I might have appreciated that a bit better, but again I don't see how throwing in a shitload of goofball elements into a film makes it intelligent. It's anything but.
Like I said, it was entertaining for the most part and the last 10 minutes are fucking hilarious, but I don't get why its being put up on such a high pedestal. Again it feels like a horror movie for people who hate horror movies.
The biggest problem with the movie is not the movie itself, but rather what people are saying about it. It seems as if these people haven't seen a real horror movie, or are far too jaded or dumb or not open-minded enough to enjoy an actual work of horror with real merit.
It's fine if you just thought this was a fun, hilarious film but this pretense that its some genius deconstruction of horror just blows my mind. Shaun of the Dead did it much, much more intellectually without being completely retarded.
I want you to know that I am not putting a lot of heaping praise on the movie. I like it and would recommend it. I see it as a dumb, silly horror-comedy that happens to show how absurd slasher films are. That's it. The critics are insane for thinking it's this original and fresh movie. As I told someone on Twitter, Thirteen Ghosts did the same shit but without the commentary.

Bane, create a thread about quality horror movies so we can talk about them.

Yeah. I don't think slasher films are "absurd," they're just meant for entertainment like this one was. Most slasher movies are very self-aware, and sometimes they're absolutely fantastic like the original Halloween.
Pako, you have absolutely no idea what youre getting into when you see this movie haha, the less you know the better. Ill just tell you I really enjoyed it, theres much more than you expect. See it as soon as you can (:
