If you didn't read the books, you have no idea what did he accomplished, the way he brought to life Suzanne Collins's world. Lots of directors could have made a brainless action flick for teens, he didn't. He respected the source, the themes, and the message on the books.
I really feel like I have more respect for the movie after reading the book..
Anyways, although I am curious to see who will direct and how they will do it, I'm sad to see Ross go! I mean, he talked like he had a lot of interesting and new ideas for Catching Fire and they will all go to waste.
hmm how come different directors is good for one series say potter but not for the hunger games series. i just dont understand anyone care to elaborate? :-?

no one can screw up potter but anyone can screw up hunger games.

Because as the series progresses, it changes. The books grow just like the kids. If we had Columbus directing DH, who knows what could have happened.
In Hunger Games, there is virtually no growing up(besides one year) and everything happens to fast, that everything stays pretty much the same as in the world they live in, and it's very consistent. Switching directors would be the opposite of consistency.

ok. fair enough. For the record im hoping the series wont feel disjointed now that we will have a new director.

No one can screw up Potter?
Tell that joke to Newell.
newell didnt screw it up. none of the directors did.
no one can screw up potter but anyone can screw up hunger games.
What you're saying is that no one can screw up Harry Potter because it's shitty anyway, but anyone could screw up Hunger Games because its so delicately amazing.

That's really the main reason why I don't want a new director.

I won't say the two words I'm thinking. :P Although 3/4 of them did great.

No im saying that harry potter is too fucking epic to screw up, anyone could make it and wed all love it. Hunger Games is totally different, it could easily suck on its second round since it could feel disjointed. look at newmoon from twilight lol. I liked twilight and hated newmoon.
Oh well, guessill lookat THG as a standalone movie instead lol.
What is annoying is that after seeing The Hunger Games and being really impressed with what he did I trusted him that he could do the same with Catching Fire and wasn't too worried. I'm not saying whoever directs CF will do a poor job, it's just I don't know what to expect now. Gary Ross had plans. I don't know, we'll just have to wait and see who will direct it.
I'm not sure how a new director could make Hunger Games feel disjointed. The first movie didn't have a visual identity, hell the cinematography and style was just all over the place, as well as the art direction.
Yeah, not seeing that. It's not like the first movie was well shot or anything. Everything about it visually was incredibly mediocre, from the camerawork, to the lackluster framing, to the shaky cam that is there to try and capture grit but fails miserably because there's no focus to it, etc. Bringing in a new director can only take the movies up from here.

If something is already amazing and fucking epic, it's even easier to screw up though?

Ill just wait to see who will be our director.
