Thanks for that post explaining why you dislike it. It was more helpful that "Best screensaver ever. What a fucking horrible movie." I will not write you off as "someone who doesn't appreciate symbolism." That would be juvenile and crossing into lcbaseballs' realm.
Is there as reason in particular why this movie was supposed to prompt questions for you, to make you think? Is this a requirement for everything you see?
I don't play video games that much anymore (I consider them to be childish and too concerned with replicating cinema), so I wouldn't be able to have that symbolism discussion with you. But yes, the symbolism is heavy handed at times in Tree of Life, but I have noticed that many people still don't understand a few things, like the beach ending and the mom floating randomly by the tree. Note that the last sentence wasn't a "you just don't get it because you're dumb" statement. I have read questions about those events.
