Well, not really when you think about it. They had to blow up parts of Hogwarts, which would take a long time if you were to blow up a miniature model several times.
There were many aerial shots in the film, I think we hadn't seen so many shots before, actually. And there were many different angles and new locations in the castle that needed to be established. I'm still pissed we didn't see the Astronomy Tower (which was a set that I loved so much in HBP) and Hagrid's Hut (and surrounding grounds), but the work they did with the castle's architecture and look was absolutely mind-blowing. Hogwarts looked terrific and very realistic. And I loved the new sets, like the extended viaduct, the wooden grounds and cliffs where Voldemort and his DEs were standing, the new gothic staircases, the new battlements, Grey Lady's corridors, the Boathouse etc.
