What didn't work for me about PA2 was that it lacked the intimacy of 1 and 3. In 1 and 3, the camera angles were tighter and inventive, in PA2 using the surveillance cameras, they were too far away making it very difficult to execute any really detailed scares and suspense. It had a few very nice moments-- again I like it-- BUT the other two have it beat in terms of unique situations and payoffs.
In PA3, especially with the oscillating camera mounted on the fan, they were able to execute some seriously fantastic moments that were very personal and right up in your face. In PA2, everything was too distant for my tastes. It was hard for me to be really worked up by the suspense because I felt too far away from it. But when you're panning back and forth from the kitchen to the dining room, you're essentially right down there in the room with it, right where the camera is, and when something happens, it's going to happen close.
With PA2, I felt like I was a security guard watching surveillance footage. Some of it was really good, but nothing quite got to me or pulled me in like the majority of PA3 did.
And then with the original, the camera was at the foot of their bed and we watched Katie and Micah as they slept, and as the demon haunted them, we were forced into scanning the one room for anything we could find off-kilter, off-balance. Again, the intimacy was great. PA2 had no intimacy, perhaps apart from the baby's room, and that's where most of the good stuff happened.
When Katie ran upstairs and flat out ran into Toby, stopping dead in her tracks and looking up at him, she fucking sold that shit for a million dollars.
The execution of PA2 might not be the best one. I totally agree. But the story development was far more interesting than the third one. I thought it kinda cheap. Of course, if we talk about it's cinematography, the camera angles and positions are far more interesting than the second one. Although, I felt that the filmmakers had this urgency of scaring the audience, it felt cheap and exaggerated and even kinda distractive. In a movie theather, after a scary sequence, the audience tends to laugh. And when you have a scary scene right after another one, it just gets repetitive and distractive. Besides, as I said before, the story is just not that interesting as the others.
In my case, I rather horror movies with a better developed script. The story of PA2 connects amazinly well with PA1. That's why I really enjoyed the second one.
It does but PA3's story connects fantastically with BOTH of them. Maybe you're just missing/forgetting details but it more or less explained why everything was happening in the first two.
PA3 did have more plot. Way more plot. PA2 didn't really do much aside from reveal the thing about the whole making the pact thing and Katie kidnapping the kid, but PA3 went back and established literally everything and gave out tons of crucial hints and explanations.
About the plot, I totally disagree. There're no real conflicts between the characters, it tries to find an explanation for a phenomenon that I don't think it needs to be explained. I don't know. Just what I thought
And while it explained certain things behind the hauntings, it didn't explain everything, hell, throughout the entire film you don't see one ghost or demon. At least you don't see what it looks like.
God one of the best parts... Kristi and Dennis (their mom's boyfriend) is playing tea party with Kristi up in their bedroom.
Dennis: So is Toby, is he young like you, or old like me? Kristi: He's old, really old. Dennis: How big is he, is he short or tall? Kristi: Tall. Dennis: Oh. Kristi: OH, sorry! Dennis: What? Kristi: I accidentally touched Toby... he didn't like that.

Good I can use this post as a diagram for my only problem with the series so far.
I am going to use 'Toby' for the demon in all the films.
In PA2 it's revealed that Toby wants hunter, Kristi's child. He possesses her, which I understand, and I even understand why he wanted the child which is better explained in PA3. Kristi's husband performs a sort of exercism on Kristi and sends Toby to Katie's house. Toby eventually possesses Katie and goes to Kristi's house, where he kills her and her husband anKrd takes the child.
So here's what I don't like: Kristi is friends with Toby in PA3, and in a creepy sort of way they have a connection. Not Toby and Katie, Toby and Kristi. Kristi even puts the motions forward to sacrifice her Dad. So why Tobi have to kill Kristi at the end of PA2? Why couldn't Katie have the firstborn son and He possess Kristi and take the child? I just felt like the Toby/Kristi relationship was marred by the fact that he kills her at the end of PA2.
This really has no play on whether I like the movies or not or even how good they are, but I felt there was something special there with Kristi/Toby that didn't play out in the way I expected it should.
"If you make yourself more than just a man... If you devote yourself to an ideal... You become something else entirely- A Legend."
It was more funny than scary. Yeah, I jumped at the loud noises and almost elbowed Katelin in the face, but I'm a jumpy/anxious person. But I found myself laughing at just about everything in the film. The other 2 were better IMO.

It's better than the 2nd one, definitely.
There are some great scenes in this one.
