Hey guys I am new and all. I am also a massive Harry Potter fan and I think my list of the top 10 most powerful wizards and witches is correct.

I don't think any of the trio are among the top witches and wizards. Although I think with Ron and Harry tie for closest, followed by Hermione, who JKR said was not as good a fighter because she wasn't cut out for fighting, and hated it, and would have preferred studying.

Good point Braveheart.
I actually didn't focus only on fighting but also on mental ability, and the whole concept of wizards.
I mean without Hermione's skills the trio would be lost.
For Me Ron and Harry are equally good wizards, even if Ron has a turbulent beginning.

09. Lucius Malfoy - He was feared and he's been bad ass up til he fell from Voldemorts grace after failing to get the prophecy
08. Sirius Black - He was able to escape from Azkaban with out an accomplice. He became an animagus while only a teen at hogwarts.
07. James Potter - Like Sirius he became an animagus while attending hogwarts, he was able to slip away from Volde a couple times and he and his child was seen as a threat to Voldemort.
06. Madeye - He was the most famous Auror. He is the best at catching dark wizards.
05. Kingsley - He was chosen to protect the Prime Minister so he must've been very tough, plus he has a cool and powerful name.
04. Albus Dumbledore - He may have been the greatest wizard, but mainly because of his wisdom. He is not as powerful as some make it seem because if he was; Voldemort would not have been a problem to the Wizarding world. He has accomplished the most, but accomplishments does not entirely make you the most powerful. He was a great speaker, a great leader, an icon in the wizarding world. But he knew he was not the most powerful, he was certainly the wisest.
03. Harry Potter - Of course Voldemort helped out with giving Harry some power. Though Harry was not the wisest, he was powerful. Everyone always mentioned it, he can fight off the cruciatus curse, he can brush off the imperius curse and his Patronus showed us in POA. Also Dumbledore entrusted the horcrux hunt to Harry and ending Voldemort was left to him too. Dumbledore knew Harry would do the right thing.
02. Voldemort - He was so feared that all is afraid to say his name. He didn't shy from showing everyone just how powerful he was. He was able to make 7 horcruxes. He took over the ministry of magic. Though he feared Dumbledore, he stood his ground against Dumbledore with ease. He may not have been the as wise as Dumbledore and looked over a few things that costed him his life, but all things aside, he is powerful.
01. Now it comes down to my number 1, some may disagree some may agree, that is why I have voiced my opinion in all my choices. My number one most powerful wizard was able to fool the greatest dark wizard of all time. He was a master of occlumency was able to be the only double agent and helped the Order of the Phoenix. He was also a master legilimency as Dumbledore had him teach Harry occlumency. He was also the most trusted one by Dumbledore and by Voldemort, so he must've been really powerful. He is also very skilled that is why Dumbledore trusted him with the most crucial tasks. He was not madd like Voldemort and could control his power usage, though he feared and was killed by Voldemort, he is still IMO the most powerful wizard, and he does not get the credit he deserves. You guessed it by now already, Severus Snape.
This topic was on the most powerful witch/wizard, Grindenwald was not on the list because he was madd! He had a thirst for power and lost control, any wise man would know that to be powerful you must be able to control your power. Grindenwald couldn't control his power and went loony when Dumbledore defeated him. And that's why Voldemort dropped a few points too, because he lets his madness take over at times. Snape on the other hand, was able to control himself.

Id deffo say Voldemort and Dumbledore are in my top 10!
