If Cuaron is responsible for a couple of bad acting moments, then that must mean Yates is responsible for BONNIE WRIGHT. I'm sorry but Bonnie Wright, besides one second in Part 2, was a horrible actress. He's also responsible for the laughably bad crying Radcliffe gave when Dumbledore died. Seems ridiculous to blame a director for bad acting, doesn't it? Yes, because it is. There's only so much a director can do with a bad actor.
And he means the Malfoy Manor scene where Hermione was screaming her head off for what amounted to little more than a series of paper cuts, since they decided crucio would be too intense for little kiddies watching, the one where there is almost no concern for the fact that Hermione is dying upstairs from those in the cellar, while they crack jokes about socks and sirs, where they tried far too hard to give the character who set the series into motion twice a "hilarious" exit from the series - I blame Kloves mainly for the laughably misjudged placement of humour for the most part, since he's not exactly got a keen sense for wit which anyone above the age of 2 would find amusing and clever. Much as I love Part 1, the Malfoy Manor sequence at the end is horrible mishandled, which stands out all the more because they made the climax to such a grim film far too light.
Anyway, I'm done. You will achieve nothing by arguing the case for either director being better. They both had different source material to work with. If they had both directed their own take on the same story, then you would have a valid basis on which to make an argument, but both Yates and Cuaron adapted different books so I don't think it's fair to judge either one on the basis of what the other has done.
Wrong. Avada Kedavra is the killing curse. He uses it against Pius. And he non verbally uses it against Harry.
Lord Stafford.
There's no on-screen evidence that he nonverbally used it against Harry. I mentioned the filmmaker's use of common colors for the spells. Keep reaching, though.
I agree on Bonnie Wright and the humor, Braveheart. She is terrible indeed, and misplaced humor sucks so much in the final two installments. It ruins any tension the scene has when Fanservice Dobby shows up. I disagree with Hermione's torture immensely, though. Carving "Mudblood" is more personal than using a torture curse and even more violent.
Is there a reason why I don't see "Lord Stafford" when I quote the posts?

i don't agree that bonnie wright was horrible i think that the material given for ginny was horrible she was fine with the very little she had in films 1-5 but in film 6 everything with her was just awkward and misplaced and i don't think it was her fault
look at part 2 she was given good stuff and she did a good job

The evidence would be that we know he did the same against Dumbledore in the Atrium. It would be in the fact that 'Avada Kedavra' shines green. It would be that this is the way of the book, and not everything is supposed to be changed. It would be that anyone who does research and is a knowledgable fan because of it... knows that Voldemort is capable of such things as the non verbal killing curse.
I'm not, i would know where to begin perhaps, but it wouldn't get me anywhere because no one can rationalize beyond their narrow mindness.
Lord Stafford.
Sod off, you arrogant prick. I can't rationalize? I'm narrowminded? I have backed up my opinions and have gone into detail. Hell, I even admit Yates' faults and say that they bother me immensely: the misplaced humor, and I even dislike the circling of the trio in Part 2 after the breakout, where disgusting exposition is the forefront.

It won't get you anywhere other than out the back door of this forum.

Stafford, you've called me "asshole" "twat" and "prick" before, and I have never said a thing. You need to grow up and start accepting other people's opinions.
You've called me a bitch before, i remember that. And where in that paragraph does it say anything about me being against there differing opinions? I don't mind that at all, it is when they accuse me of doing something that i said on the very top line, that i don't like it!
I'd like you to show me when i've done this, because i keep on hearing it, and then i tell you that... 'you only take it as such' Now, would you like me to put that in my sig as a constant reminder to you? Or would you prefer me repeating the same old line again and again? Because i will if i have to! You say that what i do makes people 'angry' Well, there is alot of false accusations going on from you guys here. I'm angry at you because of that, and it is valid anger, for an actual, legitimate reason!
No, i wouldn't. Because like i said (also earlier) i wouldn't downplay anyones opinion unless it IS indeed 'tosh' you guys really need to start backing yourselves up when you accuse me of things, rather than not. But i suppose it is your choice.
You 'attack' others when they say they think Yates is the best Potter director, basically saying it's a bullshit statement when it's THEIR opinion. You act like if they don't agree with you, they are wrong, that you are the only realistic one. There are pages filled with proof of this.

And you say we kiss ass to Yates because we like him. I could easily say that about you and the director which you admire the most.
No, you couldn't. I do not go about it with the ease that you tend to do... 'Yates is the best thing to ever happen to Potter' As if no one else ever put any work in.
For Christ's sake, Stafford. I called you out on your "you're wrong" comment. I'm not explaining why that implies a factual stance.
I think Yates saved the film series, but apparently that's "tosh."
I think the first two range from mediocre to terrible. The third is absolutely great while the fourth falters quite a bit in comparison and then Phoenix comes along and invigorates the series. The next entry then manages to add a light-hearted feel to the series along with a darker tone, and then its successors go flat out dark with touches of misplaced humor.

I would not agree. I outlined my thoughts above. Columbus came in and made boring, overlong movies with no sense of visual competence and Cuaron came and blew his work out of the water. Actually, he put a bag over their heads and drowned them. Newell came in with another mediocre effort in the series and then Yates' inclusion in the series saved it for me. Had I thought Phoenix to be a complete waste of time, I wouldn't have finished out the series.
I love your snipe at Yates being a TV director. My guess is that you think all TV directors are lame and lack vision. I would point you to The Sopranos and Battlestar Galactica to show otherwise.

I can't respect someone when all they do is bash every other director for everything they've put into this remarkable journey and then find it right to do nothing but praise one of them. You're well and truly on you're high horse now, aren't you? Full of one person and one person only, but that person isn't yourself!

What the hell do you call me complaining about some of Yates' decisions in the series? If you would read my damned analysis on the series, you would see that I do not completely bash the directors of the films I dislike. Also, I am now thoroughly convinced that you lack adequate reading comprehension skills, otherwise you would have realized that my "snipe" comment means that you use "TV director" as a pejorative, which is mighty pretentious of you.
As for Prince being a romantic comedy, here's documented, objective data to prove otherwise. I compiled this last year.
Sorry for the delay. I didn't feel like finishing the film yesterday. I have finished it now and here are the findings. I am posting summaries of the bits of romantic elements followed by the length.
- Harry and the Waitress - 33 seconds - Harry and Ginny hug at the Burrow - 6 seconds - Ron, Hermione and the toothpaste - 6 seconds - WWW where Fred and George pester Ginny about Dean, and Hermione noticing Cormac - 19 seconds - Lavender saying hello to Ron in WWW - 6 seconds - Cormac talking to Ron about Hermione on the Quidditch pitch - 8 seconds - Lavender clapping after Ron's save during Quidditch practice - 6 seconds - Ron telling Hermione that Cormac likes her - 9 seconds - Hermione and Ron discussing Ginny and Dean in the Three Broomsticks - 41 seconds - Ron and Harry discussing Ginny, Dean, and Hermione in their dormitory - 1 minute 1 second - Slughorn's dinner party: Ginny comes in late, Harry rises; Hermione mentions Ginny and Dean have been fighting; Cormac and the ice cream - 33 seconds - Hermione and the "Harry enjoyed desert" comment, her mentioning Slughorn's Christmas Party and Lavender telling Ron good luck before the Quidditch match - 32 seconds - Scene after Quidditch match where Ron and Lavender kiss, Harry and Hermione discussing how it feels to have your heart broken, Hermione and the birds - 2 minutes 29 seconds - Harry and Ron in corridor discussing Hermione, Harry and Hermione discussing Ron and who they will go to the Christmas party with - 1 minute 15 seconds - Hermione, Harry, and Cormac behind the curtain at Slughorn's Christmas party - 43 seconds - Lavender drawing a heart on the train compartment's window - 48 seconds - Harry, Ginny, Ron, and the cookies at the Burrow - 43 seconds - Harry, Ginny, and the shoelace - 34 seconds - Lavender and Ron in corridor after the attack on the Burrow - 12 seconds - Ron and the love potion in the dormitory - 1 minute 59 seconds - Ron saying the girls are going to kill him - 3 seconds - Lavender in the hospital wing fussing with Hermione; Hermione holding Ron's hand after Lavender leaves - 1 minute 47 seconds - Discussion about how Ron broke up with Lavender and what else happened in the hospital wing - 1 minute 14 seconds - The scene where Harry and Ginny kiss - 2 minutes 20 seconds - Hermione saying Ron is okay with Harry and Ginny being together - 8 seconds
Total, if my double-checked calculations are correct: 18 minutes 35 seconds.
So there you have it, folks. Nearly 19 minutes of romantic elements in a 2 hour 33 minute film.

Lord Stafford, NumberEight actually praised Cuaron too.
That doesn't make a difference, if it wasn't for Yates, this series would be dead.
Lord Stafford.
That is not the case. Another director could have come along after Goblet and wowed me as well. If you think I hate the previous films prior to Yates' so much, why would I spend over a $100 over the course of the rest of this year buying them on Blu-ray in elite packaging? If I hated them, I wouldn't do it.

David Yates didn't save the series, NumberEight. It would have continued without him, and who knows: Maybe they'd turn out better? To me they range from mediocre (HBP) to "very good" (Ootp; DH2), but never amazing. They are competently directed, nothing less, nothing more...IMO.
EDIT: Didn't notice your newest post while replying.
