I need to know

What is the 3d conversion like?

Im worried because ive seen several movies converted and the final product is blurry, really dark and dull!

I personally like it but I believe I would have focused on more details If I was able to see it in 2d, my problem with 3d is not that the picture is blurry or dark but because I have to wear the 3d glasses over mine, so it's no really comfortable. Back to Potter: it certainly darkens the image a bit but it's not that bad, the depth of some scenes is really cool, the bank scene for example is amazing in 3d (the shot of the dragon crashing through the roof is awesome).

Final verdict: see it once in 3d as it's not cheesy and not in your face (best 3d conversion I have seen) but I recommend If possible to see it too in 2d to focus on the details and for a brighter image, which are general problems with 3d and not only with potter

I think the 3D was great! the conversion was unusually good. But thats my opinion I have nearly perfect eye sight.

Some sequences were great in 3D (Voldemort disintegrating, Dragon's flight, Cart ride to the caverns, the Golden Snitch opening, Dementors) but it wasn't really needed. If anything, it darkened the image.

That's what I feel exactly about it: the added depth was really great, but the film being actually really dark is not helped by the added darkness. It's not something they could fix though, it's a general problem of 3d.

The only problem that i've heard about, is that is isn't neccesary and because of it, it is now quite bad in 2D, blurry and all that...

Wait a minute, why would it affect the 2d version?

I'm not saying it does, but apparently to other viewers, it does. They look like cardboard cutouts in certain scenes, for instance, in the COS.

I've seen it in 2D and 3D and both had very clear pictures. It didn't make a huge difference, but in certain scenes the 3D looked amazing!

Seeing it again tomorrow and I'm seeing it in 3D again :)

But that's illogical, the 3d version is created from the 2d one, there is no reason for the film makers to touch the 2d version in any way to enhance the 3d one.

It could be really possible that the 3d theaters here are just crappy, hmmm.

It was so dark I missed a lot of smaller details etc. For example, I couldn't see any blood at all dripping from Greyback's mouth or on Lavender's neck etc.

I didn't notice any blood on Lav's neck too, I think I need to see it again to focus on the details.

It's not illogical of me, i didn't say it to begin with. I'm just stating what they said, you know.

ok, I remember reading that some where too but for any body who thinks that having a 3d version affects the 2d one in any way, it's wrong.

I think that they don't worry about making things blend as well in the 2D version especially when the background is fake. Also some of the shots they have exist because of 3D. It does effect the 2D in that way.

I agree with what you are saying in that it doesn't effect the finished copy.

2D is better, seen it 2 times in 2D.. 3D the 3rd time and its not as good. 2D is the best for the film :)

I am glad to hear this about the conversion from people here. I had no choice but to see it in 3D first. I'll see it in 2D soon enough so I am happy it is great both ways.

I'm happy to see it once in IMAX 3D but all other viewings will be 2D for sure.

Good to hear that it's not bad though.

I'm seeing it at midnight in 2d, next with my family in 3d, then with my friend in IMAX 3-D. After that, I'll see which was best and watch it again there, then probably see it tons of time in 2d :p

  • decarusdecarus Posts: 5,953 ✭✭✭
Yeah if i see it in 3D then it will be imax 3D just the one time and then any other times in 2D.

The 3D was mediocre to bad. It was like wearing sunglasses; it was so dark at times you could barely make out anything. It was the first live-action film I watched in 3D and it is apparent that 3D works best for animation films.
  • JasonJason Posts: 7,279 ✭✭✭✭✭
I think it depends with theaters cause it was really well-done when I watched it.

I saw it in 3D and it was great, though some times I thought it was a little blurred like it the picture wasn't focused...

  • i saw it in 3D and it was great in my theater too. Very effective during the cart scene!
  • blackvenomblackvenom Posts: 3,257
Yeah the 3D was great in my theater, as well. The logo, the Dementors over Hogwarts, the cart ride, the dragon's flight, the protection barrier of Hogwarts, Fiendfyre, the Voldemort-shaped tsunami, the battle scenes, the Golden Snitch/Resurrection Stone, Harry and Voldemort's flight and Voldemort, Nagini and Bellatrix's disintegration looked fantastic in 3D.

My opinion is that the 3D is good, thankfully it is not overdone, but not my thing. I think I will prefer the film's artistry in 2D. 3D was mostly unnecessary; most of the film's weight was in the emotional scenes that didn't require 3D and were not enhanced by 3D and in which I did not notice the 3D at all.

The 3D at gringotts was worth the price.

True, the 3d is well done but the film simply draws you in with just the emotions not the visuals.
However, I think everybody should see it once in 3d as this chance won't be repeated again. :(

So, in that respect... I don't feel it's really needed. I think the action sequences are also great, but... They would be without 3D, as well. It also depends on how much you like 3D personally. But I can't say enough how thankful I am that Yates did not overdo the 3D: that is one of my biggest pet peeves. It would have been easy to have things like rubble fly out at you all the time, but that didn't happen.

The shattered glass when the time freezing spell was used on a death eater in the battle was really cool though. :D

Guys. It was only at my screening that the movie was REALLY dark? And when I mean REALLY dark... I couldn't even see some scenes. I had to force my eyesight and then, the scene was over. I hated watching it in 3D.

It was only at my theater or someone else experienced something like that too?

I don´t know...the movie was bright at my screening, so this is why I also enjoyed 3D...

I think some theaters might have not complied to David Yates agreement of special brightness requirements for the film, that's why the 3d response is mixed.

Saw it in IMAX-3D and I don't regret a single thing. The picture quality's actually good. It didn't hurt my eyes. I'm wearing eyeglasses, btw. I'm planning to see it again in Digital 3D and conventional 2D over the next few days.
