Oh damn. I'm 90% sure the Salon one will be counted as Rotten.
Gahhh, here's to hoping it's not. After coming this far it would suck to have our perfect Top Critics score ruined. He prefered Part 1 to Part 2. Still, let's see what RT says.
HOW positive? I'm reading other reviews at the moment...
Honestly? I have no clue. Imo it's a pretty darn bad review. She spends most of the time talking about the series as a whole and only intersecting small snippets about DH2 itself here and there. She seems to be in about the 4/5 range though, if she were to score it.
I read the Salon review, I'd say mixed as well. Oh, and he's clearly not read the books
"Seconds later, I was out on the sidewalk in front of the theater, feeling a little baffled and irritated: Wait, Dumbledore said what to Snape and what to Harry? Voldemort is incapable of killing Harry because ... why, exactly? Which Horcrux is the giant snake and which one is the Magic Cup of H.R. Pufnstuf? What the Sam Hill are the Deathly Hallows again, and what do they have to do with anything? (Answer: They don't.)"
Anyone else bothered by him saying the Deathly Hallows doesn't have importance? Um hello, Elder Wand...
It bothers me when reviewers complain about the lack of intelligibility of a movie when they know others were able to understand it fine. He begins the review by acknowledging the heaps of praise the movie is recieving, after all.
Also, RT added a 27th top critic as Fresh. I hope it's the Salon one, since we know the NY times one is positive =P
Edit: Oh, and I'd say the NYTimes review is on the high end of positive, given what I got from rereading the first sentence:
"Childhood ends, this time forever, with tears and howls, swirls of smoke, the shock of mortality and bittersweet smiles in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” the grave, deeply satisfying final movie in the series."
The whole deeply satisfying thing is quite nice ^_^
This link hasn't been posted, but the review itself has =P I learned earlier that many reviews are simply duplicates under different publications. The easiest way to keep track of new ones is to look at the author ^_^
EDIT: Hmm, interesting. RT counted Turan's review as a 4/5. I don't see a score anywhere in his article, but I thought I should note that.
Double Edit: They also gave the NYTimes review a 4/5. Where are they getting these ratings from?? Haha
I don't think anyone has mentioned yet but Metacritic is now counting 29 critics and the score has remained at 88. Ebert, Phillips, and Travers were given 88, a few 100's were added (I think), Slate was an 80, and Washington Post a 75. They haven't counted Salon yet but I'm pretty sure it will be eventually. And it might be the first one not in the green, but rather yellow (meaning mixed)
It's now down to 87, but 70 is alot better than I anticipated. This means it will likely be fresh on RT
Guys, I'm almost 100% sure critics submit their score and whether it's fresh or rotten to RT.
I know they submit the fresh/rotten marker, but usually if they don't score the review on their own publication, no score is posted onto RT which is why I find that odd for the NYTimes and LATimes cases.
Inching closer and closer to Top Critic meter perfection! (knock on wood) 87 is still the best of the year for Metacritic and with 32 posted (some of which haven't made it onto RT yet) there aren't a whole lot left. Now, who is left...?
Not to mention Metacritic hasn't added Roeper's A+ Since they weigh critics based on their importance, that might shoot us back up to 88 =P
Doesn't it bug you how it's not at 96%? The screen would look better if it was showing 96% on both sides, lol...only like 4 more to go 'till we get back up there.
The other forum is... too silent to support my hype right now, and I figured that since we're 24 hours from launch as of this post, that it was due time.
"This outing not only doesn’t disappoint; it surpasses high expectations. This is a terrific, smartly designed adolescent adventure, visually rich, narratively satisfying, and bound to resonate for years to come."
"The last book was divided into two movies, initially provoking some skepticism, especially as the first part wasn’t so great. But “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” is everything any Potter fan could want and more. It brings one of the most successful movie franchises to a thrilling conclusion.
Sorry, I don't know if any of these I find are ones that go on RT, I'm just finding any I can. Are we only looking for Top Critic and ones that go on RT now or are we still taking any review we can find?

Well I don't know about others but I'm really interested in seeing if we can pull of a perfect Top Critic meter. That'd have to be almost unprecedented for a modern film with a significant amount of total reviews.
Well, I guess I'll just post whatever I find then still, because I don't know who Top Critics are or who counts on RT.
How many more Top Critics are left to find? Just the ones you posted?
I'm honestly mindblown by the critic reception. I predicted that since it doesn't have a "beginning" that they'd be a bit harder on it and complain about the split or whatever.
111 total on RT with only 5 negatives, and one of those is Armond White and two of them are some stupid married fucks who can't write worth a god damn.
Seriously the best part is that for the most part the negative reviews are either written by trolls, or are incredibly stupid and don't actually detail why they didn't like it.
Well, it's not final since we've only gotten half of our Part 2 ratings. The fact is, Top Critics really disliked Part 1 and I was hoping that once they saw Part 2, they would lessen their judgement on Part 1 and maybe they would edit reviews or something. I was hoping it would bump up to an 80%. No such luck so far, though.
I know, we were just so close to 80 though! -_- They should at least acknowledge in their Part 2 reviews that they were f*cking wrong about judging the split.
honestly though who here thought part 2 would even get in the 90's? i thought for sure that it could be high 80s or something but this insane none of the movies came close to what we're experiencing right now and it is FUCKING AWESOME!!

If you're a critic, you have to stand by your published opinion. You may modify your views in retrospect(and some have! look through some of the older reviews), but you assess each movie as definitively as you can at the time they come out. Still, I know what you mean. I absolutely loved Part 1 for it's uniqueness, and think it will probably be seen as one of the best in the series in the future. Empire Strikes back was met to mixed reviews when it first came out.
But yea, this reception is awesome! Here's to hoping the Salon review isn't counted as negative on RT! We might just be able to maintain an 8.6 average to the end among Top Critics!

Goblet of Fire was recently bumped down to an 87% by like one review, and this was 5 years after.
Maybe some critics will review Part 1 in the far future along with Part 2, give them both positive ratings and bump up their averages.
