I am surprised the Voldemort theme from DH1 doesn't seem to be used at all to my ears in this score except for when they're finding the Cup in the vault.
I also think that around :58 - 1:02 of Underworld sounds a little bit like music from COS when Harry leaves the diary, right around 3:06 of this track:
I just had the idea. What if as the audience who hasn't read the book or bought the soundtrack watch the film they associate Lilly's theme with Snape, not knowing it's actually her theme. It will play whenever Snape has a good reflective character moment on screen. As he stands watching the students in the beginning till his death. THEN during The Princes Tale memories, as Snape conjures his and Lilly's Doe patronus BAM! it's made clear, that it is actually Lilly's theme. It is then 100% clear this is the case during the Ressurection stone scene as Lilly appears and her theme plays. They share a patronus, why not a theme? It would be such a cool musical device if it's done this way.
I'm listening to all the extended samples in a playlist right now. So epic, though it would be more with all the tracks. Imagine listening to BOTH Deathly hallows scores, the full tracks! =P~=P~=P~
Funny how watertower-music still doesn't even have the tracklist yet posted yet.
Yoda, I agree! I think that Lily's theme will play during the opening of the film (opening credits, Snape at Hogwarts) and it will play briefly whenever Snape appears. It's also included in other tracks (Resurrection Stone, Snape's demise, Severus and Lily, Voldemort's End) so there will be a connection.

Since when did he have an actual theme in DHP1? I only remember him having one in PS and GOF!

Lord Stafford.
Snape to Malfoy Mannor contains Desplate's Voldemort/Evil theme. It plays whenever Voldemort/Evil appears or is about to appear. Examples off the top of my head: When Nagini eats Ms. Burbage, as he appears as smoke on the wind to Hagrid's Motorbike during the Seven Potter chase, when Lucius is about to press his dark mark at Malfoy manner.
Really? I think Snape to Malfoy is MUCH more recognizable than GoF, idk even know what his theme is in that, if you can link me to a youtube video of the music or a page with it I'd appreciate it, because I do not remember him exactly having a stand out theme at all in GoF. In Sorcerer's Stone, yes he had one, but I like Snape to Malfoy Manor better. The Sorcerer's Stone one is basically the Emperor's theme from Star Wars.
The Voldemort theme plays a lot throughout DH1 but it's very subtle. We hear it when Nagini eats Charity, when Voldemort flies next to Hagrid's motobike, when Bathilda is about to transform into Nagini, when Lucius is about to call Voldemort in Malfoy Manor and when Voldemort steals the Elder Wand from Dumbledore's tomb. A variation of it is 'The Locket' theme which plays when Kreacher tells them about Regulus, Mundungus says that Umbridge has it and when Harry confronts her in the courtroom.
The other theme is 'Obliviate' which has variations throughout the score. When Harry tries to leave from the Burrow, when Hermione, of course, wipes out her parents' memories, when Hermione erases the Death Eaters' memories in the cafe, when Harry is drowning in the lake and Ron saves him and when Dobby dies (Farewell to Dobby). It's the 'Trio' theme, I guess.
Another little theme is when Harry sees the cupboard room in the Dursleys house, when Ron abandons Harry and Hermione and when Dobby is about to die at Shell Cottage. It's the 'loss of innocence' theme, I think.
Another theme is Snape to Malfoy Manor which I consider the 'Death Eater' theme, as it plays again when the Death Eaters search for Harry in Diagon Alley and Hogwarts Express.
Another theme is the 'Dumbledore' theme which is used several times. When Harry talks with Muriel about Dumbledore at the Wedding, when Harry and Hermione discuss going to Godric's Hollow at the rock formations and when Xenophilius talks about the Deathly Hallows in his house.
Finally, another theme is the 'Reunion/Order of the Phoenix' theme when they arrive at the Dursleys and later when they arrive at the Burrow and gather in the living room.
So, all in all, DH1 had six main themes, though I consider 'Obliviate' to be the trademark theme of the film (after all, it's the first one that plays when the end credits roll). It's quite astonishing how subtle these themes are in the film. Desplat did a great job, I think. After all, his score wasn't really supposed to be 'straight-forward' (his Part 2 score seems to be like that, but it fits the film perfectly). The score of Part 1 was supposed to be low-key and atmospheric and he managed to create this sad and tense atmosphere very well.
I still consider PS and PoA's scores the best scores in the series. PS has all the main themes that have become all-time classic and PoA is an improvement of these with a much more mature and emotional approach (suitable to the film of course). I think that DH1 is the third best score in the series, followed by HBP. I don't really care about OotP, CoS and GoF. GoF is probably the better one, but it's way too loud, it's annoying.
It's not quite what i would consider to be a theme, it isn't familiar and recognisable as much, like how PS's and GOF's is.

I think that's because they shake it up and change the tempo or instruments used...but yeah, it's there. I think I read that he was trying to come up with a mix of the SS/CoS Voldemort theme and the GoF Voldemort theme?
Okay guys, we got so spoiled with Part 1 cuz the soundtrack leaked the same day we got samples. But now I'm DYING to hear the whole thing! Does anyone remember how long it took the other 6 soundtracks to leak? How close to the film was it? Thanks.

Want to know something funny? I only just a few days ago realized the 'Obliviate' theme is used in all those moments. I mean I knew it was used in other moments besides the beginning of the film like after they're caught by the snatchers, but I never noticed the tracks 'Ron Leaves', and 'Ron's Speech' use the same notes as 'Obliviate'. After I made the realization I was like, DUR!!!! #-O Felt pretty dumb.
Edit- Also someone on youtube pointed out that there a bit of John William's 'The Face of Voldemort' during 'Showdown' at 1:30. Whether it was intentional or not, I think I hear it too.
So Hedwigs theme during the WB logo. Do you think it will have it? It could still be in the first few seconds of 'Lilly's Theme' which we've yet to hear.

This is a varietion of Hegwig's theme, it's very subtle and i love it.

The track is called hedwigs theme, it doesn mean its anything to do with Hedwigs character! Its the overiding theme of the series!
Just because the character of hedwig is dead doesnt mean they should retire the MAIN THEME of the entire saga! That just daft
