Is anyone else uncertain about Desplat?

edited June 2010 in General
I'm not implying that he is a bad composer I'm just unsure. He's a new guy on the HP scene and this is the first part of the final story, I would have preffered someone with past experience to work on this film. I don't think he has ever done anything on this scale before and that leaves me a tad worried, Hooper hadn't either but he came in during the middle of the series and I think he improved a bit. I wouldn't have minded if he had done Part I, although John Williams would be ideal.

I think he'll do a great job. His compositions for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Julie & Julia, The Queen and Fantastic Mr. Fox were really great plus he was a 3-time Oscar nominee. Even his score for new moon, I hate to admit it but his track "New Moon (The Meadow)" was beautiful. He even said in the interviews that he will use John Williams' old themes from the past Harry Potter soundtrack (wanna hear Window to the Past again hehe). So I'm not worried but I think Williams should score Part 2.

He's a Golden Globe award winning and 3 times Academy award nominated composer. He'll be spectacular.

I'm EXTREMELY uncertain. He has the credentials and that's the only thing that gives me hope because after hearing his New Moon score I'm very skeptical. I still want Williams but I'm not going to write Desplat off completely until I hear his work in HP. I'm sure he'll probably do fine but if he gives us anything like New Moon (which was awful) I'll be pretty angry.

Listen to his other scores, such as Fantastic Mr Fox, Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium and The Painted Veil. They're great.

Yep, I've heard them and they are great but New Moon was dead terrible and I just don't want him to screw up HP like he did with that. Again, I'm pretty sure he'll do fine but New Moon gives me enough reason to have some doubt. However, I won't cast judgment until I hear his HP score. I'm pulling for him to knock it out of the park! (but I still want Williams back for part 2 LOL)

Yeah. I have a few doubts about him. Though I have hope too. I guess I'm just a hopeful person. While I like all his stuff, there isn't really anything I really love. You know what I mean? His Benjamin Button stuff comes close to love, though it's a very sleepy, boring love. haha.

Axtually he can't be less good than Hooper who was a TV composer with almost no film experience before.
And he's a 3-time Oscar nominee, a Golden Globe winner and one of the best composers in the business right now.
Lust,Caution , The Painted Veil, Syriana, Benjamin Button have fantastic scores. I am sure he'll be great.

And now please compare Benjamin button, Twilight, Mr Maggorium, Mr.fox and etc. with incoming HP films... i'm afraid that Desplat just can't to make a respectable soundtrack...
