I think character development is FAR more important than action. And even if so, I think the action in LotR and Star Wars is better than HP. Its funny how when I say I like something better, people suddenly act like I'm an HP hater. I don't need to be reminded why HP is amazing.

To me, Star Wars is better in a term of character development, and that practically makes the whole story of the series. As for LotR, the characters aren't as good as HP.

Movie wise I think it's LOTR > HP > Star Wars.
I agree, although I cannot properly comment on Star Wars, but from what I have seen (including Episode 3 and most of A New Hope), the Harry Potter films seem superior. Also, we must take into account the very different situations of production regarding LOTR and Harry Potter to understand why one series is superior to the other (in my opinion). But that's not to say the Harry Potter films aren't expertly crafted and wonderfully produced - they are. Especially Prisoner of Azkaban and the Yates films.

The characters in LOTR are great, and the movies have a bigger emotional impact on me than the HP movies. Just an opinion.

Jake, that is not the case.
You stated that LOTR AND SW were
better than HP, and I merely just gave
my opinion as to why I THINK that
    is not true.

It's just an opinion. And I wholeheartedly
    respect yours, Slantee's, and weasley's.

I understand that you like them better, and I get that you're just expressing your opinion, but it almost seemed like I said that LotR and SW rocked, and HP sucked. Which I didn't.

I disagree about the characters as well. The characters and story in both LotR and SW have a lot going on there. I also think that comparing the three it is SW which is sort of the fate of the Universe and LotR which is the fate of the world that have the bigger scope. I mean HP feels much more personal as in HP verses Voldemort. And there is that personal in the other two worlds, but it is within the scope of the worlds fate and i never felt like the world was at stake in HP. I mean most of humanity didn't even know they were at war at there was just a very small part of the world fighting against a very small amount of death eaters.

harry potter has better Charecter Development and a much more Complex plot than either star wars or LOTR (From what ive been told its very basic) and potter dosent need explosions death and battles galore to carry the story. whereas star wars and from what ive been told lotr does. for potter its the plot and the charecters that matter. not mindless battle sequences.

But what's important here is that the story makes you feel like you're a part of that personal world and the war matters to you as much as it does to Harry. The one thing I like about the series is that through the series, you kind of develop a close friendship with Harry's character and the war, although on a personal level, means a lot more than something which is on a much bigger level. Like, I'd care more about a close friend of mine dying in an accident or a fight than a soldier dying at war. That is why so many people relate to Harry Potter. Because the story is much more personal.

I just can't agree with very basic. There is just so much going on in Star Wars. I mean where Luke's character goes throughout the greater arc and where Anakin's goes. It is just as epic in the scope as HP. Also LotR is a very emotional story at the end. I mean these characters are all fighting at the end and thinking they are going to die to give Frodo and Sam that one chance to try and save the world. I had never read LotR before i saw the final film and the end was amazing. Star Wars, i don't think i can ever remember not knowing the end, but i still find all of the big reveals in the story absolutely amazing story telling.

I also disagree that HP is the thing of a generation, but that might be just because i don't know anyone that really likes HP not even anyone your guys age.

The reason it feels like that is that the books are from one person's viewpoint almost entirely, besides a few of the intros. I also don't think the big picture is at stake. It is sort of a feud between two people. I don't agree that LotR or Star Wars doesn't also show the personal. You care very much that this is Luke, Anakin, Padme, Leia as well as Frodo, Sam, Aragon, Gandalf. I just think that HP does not have the feel of the world is at stake here whereas the others do.

    Again, that's your opinion, Decarus.
But you really lost me here:

I also disagree that HP is the thing of a generation, but that might be just because i don't know anyone that really likes HP not even anyone your guys age.
You really don't know ANYONE, who likes Harry Potter?
Really? If so, well, that's just strange.

And yes i don't know anyone that likes HP. No one.

There is no reason to make a ridiculous comment either. Reminding me that it is my opinion. Of course it is my opinion. As if that is some sort of argument in your favor.
  • Lord_DarkeyesLord_Darkeyes Posts: 4,905 ✭✭✭✭
I understand that I'm not the best person on this site who doesn't cause a lot of arguments. Because I do. But, I'm saying I'm not saying anything more, because all I'm going to do is make it worse.

Decarus, you need to grow up
and stop being a martyr all the time.

I was respectfully stating my opinion
    and respectfully accepting others.
That's it. You come along with your

If you want me to say so, the fine:

Well out of the three franchises overall (books, films, anything else) Harry Potter is my favorite and is the one that means the most to me.

    I do agree with this.

Harry Potter is my favorite franchise of all time. But there is no doubt that Lord of the Rings and Star Wars are probably better in quality, consistency, numerous categories.

  • aaronaaron Posts: 20,950 mod
I mean Middle Earth is fantastic and amazing and magical but the world Rowling created and that the directors brought to life is one of the most immersive experiences ever. Star Wars has cool visuals but I wouldn't actually want to live there. I would pay big money to go to Hogwarts.

Hogwarts... would be the best thing ever.
Whenever I watch the scene with Lupin and Harry on the viaduct, with them talking about his parents and a Window to the Past slowly playing the background, I realize just how much I'd want to spend the rest of my life at Hogwarts.
