OT: AMAZING "Banishment" clip from Ken Branagh's (Gilderoy Lockhart) Thor...

The movie has been getting very good reviews so far, and those who have seen it said the more comedic clips do the film a disservice outside of context, but this clip more than compensates. The sadness and anger of Odin, as portrayed by Anthony Hopkins, is on a caliber unlike anything I have ever seen in a Marvel superhero film before.

I don't like what I see, I'm afraid. Hopkins looks great, though. The rest of it...not really.

It currently has a 94% on RT after around 49 reviews, and the word-of-mouth has been incredibly positive. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston have been singled out for high praise too as both Thor and Loki respectively, so Hopkins isn't necessarily the only one delivering the goods in this movie.

As for the production design and general art direction, people have been more divided, but I'm a huge fan of Bo Welch generally and Asgard has one of the most well-articulated steampunk looks I've seen in a long while. For me, this easily looks like the best comic book movie yet, highly dramatic without losing the inherent fun of the premise and snappy without ever compromising its dramatic elements.

Personally I felt it was oversaturated with comedy and it suffered a little from that. It was very entertaining though, and Asgard was beautiful.

Do you remember how many scenes Idris Elba had as Heimdall? I'm looking forward to his performance the most.

And yes, Asgard does indeed look very beautiful. It's like a Jack Kirby illustration exploded on-screen.

He has a fair mount of screen time, and some awesome scenes. Heimdall was one of my favourite characters in the film. And this is coming from a Thor newbie who hasn't read the comics, so I wasn't familiar with the characters and mythology. However, Branagh does very good job of setting it all up in the limited screen time. I'm hoping for a sequel (I think the actors signed up for three films?).
