OT: Did anyone catch the premiere of The Voice last night?

It BLEW American Idol this season out of the water with its premiere, in my opinion. Not only is the structure more interesting, but the judges of the show are actually coaches and, if the contestants who they approve of agree, they form their own teams with them - it says more about the contestants with the coaches they choose from. It's much more dynamic in terms of giving the contestants experience by actively prepping them and assembling a kind of team spirit than Idol's format with just the three judges being involved with critiquing all of the performances. It also puts more power in the hands of the audience in several respects.

Dang it!! That was last night?! Shoot. I wanted to see it and totally forgot.
I'll have to try and find it online.

Adam Levine is one main reason I wanted to watch. But yeah, I like how they are trying to structure this show. Idol, I think the judges are afraid to actually give critiques. Because it seems that J Lo and Steve Tyler love every performance every week 8-|

I did not catch it but just the premise alone is much better than Idol. I'll be curious to see how it does in the long run.

Adam Levine was great, so if you are a fan I am sure you will be pleased by how much he contributes to the show. When it came to choosing which contestants they liked by moving their chair to face them, Adam was the most selective judge by far - he only moved around a few times. Because the judges act as coaches, there's a more competitive spirit...American Idol just feels too tame with its structure nowadays.

Thanks Jordy! I'm watching it now.

Since you are a fan of the original version from Holland, do you think the American version has done justice to the concept? It sounds like it's retained the spirit of its sister version in Holland by keeping the format largely intact.

I think that makes such a huge difference, not being able to see the singer. You are basing it completely on their voice at first and not looks. I like that.

That was indeed a great audition! He sang the lyrics extremely clearly without compromising any of the emotion of the song. It's a song that some singers make gimmicky by being too rough with their voices but he found the most ideal balance.
