Not a fan of Malick's films by any stretch, despite the almost orgasmic awe that his name and filmography inspire in many others -- The Thin Red Line has to be one of the most overrated films I've ever seen, although Badlands is a very good film -- but Desplat's compositions here are just extraordinarily lovely. Well, well done.

It depends on how The Tree of Life will be received. If it's the masterpiece everyone thinks it will be, then yes Desplat's score will probably get Potter's possible spot for Best Original Score. If the film gets mixed reviews and the campaign isn't as strong as Potter's, then Desplat's score for DH will be the one to grab the nomination. It's all a matter of politics, unfortunately.

I don't think that the score samples are any sort of indication that this score will be nominated for an Oscar. I mean, yes it's lovely but it's typical Desplat. It depends on the film's reception, the campaign and the score itself.

Oscar nominations are all about politics unfortunately.

I love Desplat's work. Even if it isn't nominated it will still be an awesome score. I have complete faith in him to come through.
