Funny Article about Emma Watson being 'Bullied'

Emma Watson was bullied by classmates at a top US college who taunted her with lines from the Harry Potter movies, it has been claimed.
The actress, who plays Hermione Granger in the franchise, would answer questions in class at Brown University only to find her fellow students would make wisecracks.
A source said: '[They] would respond with a quote from 'Harry Potter.'
'The most popular choice was "Three points for Gryffindor!"'
Characters in the films would often shout that phrase out when a student at the fictional Hogwarts school got a correct answer.

Watson's peers also shouted phrases from the film at her as she watched an American football game, the New York Daily News reports.

Last month Watson, 21, announced she was putting her studies at the Providence, Rhode Island institution on hold while she finished work on the Harry Potter movies.

'I will still be working towards my degree... it's just going to take me a semester or two longer than I thought,' she wrote on her website.
'As you know, I love Brown and I love studying pretty much more than anything but recently I've had so much to juggle that being a student AND fulfilling my other commitments has become a little impossible.'

It has been claimed that she is planning to leave Brown and transfer to another US university, possibly in New York.

Before her classes began in 2009, Watson was hopeful that she would be treated like any other student.

She said at the time: 'I do hope that it will be only a short time before I am known as "Emma Watson, the student from the UK" rather than "Emma Watson who starred in those Harry Potter films".'

Taking leave: Emma has putting her studies at Brown University on hold while she finished work on the Harry Potter movies
That same year, Mark Nickel, the school’s director of communications, said: 'We do whatever we need to do to ensure safety and privacy, and that applies pretty much to all students.'

Brown University is one of the top colleges in the United States, boasting alumni including former presidents, diplomats, royalty and a heavy sprinkling of celebrities' offspring.

Brown was number 1 for America's 'Happiest College Students', according to the Princeton Review 2010 rankings.

It has also been named 'the most fashionable school in the Ivy League' by the fashion trade journal Women's Wear Daily.

Miss Watson achieved straight As in her A-levels before landing a place at the university.
A spokesperson for Watson was unavailable for comment when contacted by Mail Online.

Unless she comes out and says she was bullied I hardly think a remark like "three points for Gryffindor" is bullying.

Its just some wiseass trying to be funny and failing at it.

Bullying is only bullying if you let it bother you.

Was she really bullied? She said her friends at Brown were always protective of her so I don't think this is true.

Doesn't sound like bullying to me personally, she's made so much money is so popular worldwide that a legitimate funny wisecrack like that should hardly bother her. Plus she's quite frankly smarter than most of her classmates by the sound of it, causing her to sound just like Hermione... Can't say I wouldn't be tempted to say the same thing if she stuck her hand up and answered a question.. but I would probably just whisper it to the people sitting around me so as to not dissapoint the queen herself.

I don't think it's bullying. If she is taking it personal, yep. But, I doubt that she bothers

Oh come on! Emma has lived in the public eye long enough to have thick enough skin for this. And a joke so tame it couldn't even be considered bullying if it WAS bothering her. The only people who would ever conceive of this as bullying are those with mental defficiencies and those under the age of four.

Although, I do think she was RIDICULOUSLY naive to think that she would just be a normal girl. Sorry Emma, you can be an international millionaire or you can be a normal girl. You can't be both, and I'd have expected Emma to be intelligent enough to realise. But then I suppose she's led a sheltered life.

Though nothing beats the time when she claimed she was "just a normal girl like every other girl" and then said in the same sentence "oh and I get lots of free designer handbags." Do feel free to shut up when you occasionally spout ignorantly priveledged stupidity like that Emma. :P

There are a lot of privileged kids that go to schools like Brown who either are celebrities or there parent's are in their manner.

Although she may be the most notable one there I don't think its that naive to expect. It is still somewhat naive though. If nothing else it was wishful thinking.

this story is so full of crap. i read the "ten" points for gryffindor as it was at the time, started on Twitter over a year ago. and emma said that her classmates were protective of her. she had only 100 people at her birthday party, and not one pic made it online, she stated. she was proud and appreciative of that.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Emma herself debunked the "Ten points for Gryffindor!" story.

Wow. Hostile much? Regardless of whether or not Emma has lived in the public eye, placing undue blame on ANY victim of harassment is simply despicable. Not only does it disrespect her right as a student at Brown, typically known for its friendly student body, but it implies that the students don't even acknowledge her as a fellow student - it's disruptive, unnecessary and just plain rude. To further suggest that anyone who disagrees with you has a "mental deficiency" is incredibly ignorant - do feel free to shut up when you spout ignorantly privileged stupidity like that, unless you know what it's actually like to have a mental deficiency.

Although this story probably is not true (Emma has had nothing but kind words about her fellow students and the source of this article is notoriously unreliable at times), she has every right to expect decency from her fellow college students in the classroom, just like every other student should ideally have. Unnecessary, degrading commentary in a classroom environment is uncalled for, no matter who is receiving it. To suggest that they should be excused because Emma is a famous actress is, again, placing undue blame on her. Bullying is bullying, no matter how thick of a skin come people may have - and it should not be tolerated if it comes at the expense of someone's education.

Also, the supposed interview you're quoting is, I would bet, taken out of context or extremely ill-interpreted. Emma has been nothing but gracious about her status and I doubt she giggled like a schoolgirl about designer handbags in the context that you're giving the remark. Either substantiate your remark or "shut up" yourself - it's clear that your mentality is giving Emma a disproportionate amount of blame for simply expecting common decency. An actress who has never strived to be in the celebrity spotlight outside of what has been given to her should have every right to be normal, and I would be similarly furious if a student called out "What a freakin' teacher's pet" in the classroom after someone answered a question.
