^My dad is a Trekkie....sort of. He's a big fan of the shows. Every Sunday, we would watch Star Trek and I used to hate it. But, when Next Generation came out, it wasn't so bad. I loved Abrams Star Trek and can't wait for the next movie!!
I hate Star Trek but I loved Abrams' take on it. It was actually entertaining with energetic characters. That's why I consider him a fantastic director-- he's the first human being that has made me like Star Trek.
Seriously I don't get the hype over Super 8. I mean, yes it looks good, but not anything really great. Captain America looks lame. Seriously, is this going to be the film which will compete Deathly Hallows in late July? I actually think that DH2, given the 3D and finale factor, will surpass Captain America in its second weekend. Not by much, but it will.
For me, I think JJ Abrams is a fantastic director who actually understands how to separate spectacle from stupidity, he's always bringing new things to the table, he can direct action very well, and in general the film is a throwback to Steven Spielberg's heyday of summer blockbusters. If Steven isn't going to do it as much as he used to anymore, I'd definitely be fine with someone like Abrams taking the reigns.
In addition to this, Michael Giacchino is scoring it and 20 minutes were shown to incredibly, incredibly positive impressions. Super 8 is basically the summer blockbuster that other summer blockbusters wish they could be-- you can go ahead and mark my words down right now. Obviously Harry Potter is my most anticipated film of the year, but it's not hard for me to pick my second.
That sounds like Super 8 will overshadow Potter(in awards and in talk).

Maybe not in talk. Super 8 will be very successful domestically but Potter will be the same everywhere.
Awards wise I am not sure. I would have to see it before making that judgement.

I'm sorry, but I don't think HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART II wishes to be Super 8. Harry Potter, being the most successful movie franchise in history, will have one of the most EPIC finales EVER.
Sure, Super 8 looks INCREDIBLE but I do not think it will overshadow THE FINALE in any way.
I'm another one who doesn't think Super 8 looks that good. Just an over hyped summer movie. I'm sure it will be good but not nearly as good as everyone is claiming it will be.
^Exactly. I mean, yes it definitely looks better than most of the other summer blockbusters, but it's nothing really exciting anyway. That's my opinion, though.
And Super 8 is a children sci-fi story. Seriously, I don't think that the film will get more recognition than Potter who has become a much more adult story and it also has the finale factor. But yeah, if there's any film worth mentioned this summer, except for Potter, it's Super 8.
I guess I'm just fortunate to be excited for more than one thing. Nothing overshadows Potter but an Abrams film in the vein of the now long-lost Spielberg summer blockbuster, yeah I'm pretty fucking pumped for that.
Well, my most anticipated films are Tree of Life, Melancholia, God of Carnage, A Dangerous Method, Ides of March, Deathly Hallows Part 2, War Horse, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, J.Edgar and My Week with Marilyn.
From the blockbuster releases, Potter is my #01. Super 8 and Pirates 4 follow. And I don't really care about any other film. Well, Pirates 4 will be mediocre, but it's fun, it's got Depp, Rush and Cruz and I'm sure it'll be better than the endless boring films 2 and 3. Super 8 looks cool, not anything great or in par with Potter, but I'm sure it'll be lots of fun. Abrams is good.
Really? I remember checking the IMDb Oscar Buzz board and they said that it was IMDb's fault and that the film will be released late this year (around December).
I want to see pirates this may, the tree of life, and potter of course!!! I just saw transfomers 1 and liked it but nothing special...I didn´t see the 2nd one and not planning or hyping for the 3rd ....I dont care

I mean watch this trailer. It gives me chills to this day. THIS is what I call a trailer.
:-"
Abrams is a genius and Super 8 will be good because he is at the helm.

Mysterious thing time.
I will go see Super 8, Hangover 2 this summer besides Potter. And No, I will not be in attendence for Pirates or Transformers.
This fall/Winter I'll go see Paranormal Activity 3, Breaking Dawn pt1, and The Invention of Hugo Cabret

It seems like this will turn out to be a good year for films.
