VFX Problems?

If only 20% of the battle footage is complete, how can we expect a trailer with finished cuts within the month? And is there going to be enough time for 3D conversion?

They are in way over their heads. They better have some good vfx people!

Is it possible they have more than one copy of the film? They probably just provided one copy in its early stages for the testing screens and they are currently working on the final product.

April will be a very busy month for the special effects team. By May, the effects should be completed, and throughout May, the 3D conversion should wrap, and by June the music should be wrapping up, and then edited into the film in time for July.

They've released enough part 2 footage to make a 2 minute long trailer so I don't think that will be the case... It's only April 4th so the film will be completed by Summer

It's very possible that the test screening cut had placeholder shots and unfinished effects from much earlier in the process, and the test screening cut didn't have some of the updated shots.

if they are running behind, perhaps they will scrap the 3D stuff again....

Exactly, we all but have the midnight/OW record in the bag if 3D stays intact.

Heyman sounded confident when he was asked about the 3D conversion. They'd know if it could happen by now. It will definitely help the B.O. Not that Potter needs it.

I think that DH2, without the 3D, will make 320M$ domestically and 710M$ overseas. Add the 3D and we'll have at least 100-150M$ more.

They pick whatever they have ready from the full movie. Not every effects has to be done.

They make the effects ONLY for the scenes incluided in the trailer. Like the june trailer...there are a lot scenes of part 2 with effects, and they where in post-production of DH1. So, it is the same case.

They have some of the most experienced technical artists working on this project, which is understandably the most technically-heavy film, so I'm not concerned in the slightest.

Didn't they hire technical artists from the U.S. as well?

Not sure. I know that Double Negative is working on Part II, though. Framestore, which worked on Part 1 (Kreacher/Dobby, etc), is not returning, but it's pretty much a guarantee that even artists from UK technical effects companies are going to be from the United States too. As for US-based companies, I don't know off-hand.

I think that I had read that they're bringing even technical effects companies from the U.S. as well, in order to have more people working on the film. ;)

Probably true. Part II is a massive undertaking, effects-wise.

    True ;)

I think that Part II will be the frontrunner to win the goddamn Oscar for Best Visual Effects this year. It's about time and it seems that the effort they're putting into it is huge.

ILM is located in USA, so you're probably thinking of them. They did all the VFX for SS and CoS, as well as the cave scene in HBP.
