  • Dream, Is it true? Desplat will write music for DH pI?((( i like his soundtrack for "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium" but... his music is not proper for hp films...

I really doubt about John Williams return because on his official website he said he will compose the Tintin movieS score so he can assume two scores in the same times

Film Score Daily is reporting that French composer Alexandre Desplat, who has conducted the scores for such features as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Golden Compass, The Queen, Julie & Julia, and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, is set to create the music for the first installment of the final Harry Potter films, Deathly Hallows: Part I.

    Quote:
He has become the director-of-choice for many of the world's most acclaimed directors, including Fincher, Stephen Frears, Terence Malick and Roman Polanski, and has signed for one his most challenging and highest-profile assignments yet, the penultimate entry in the Harry Potter saga.
It is unknown whether Desplat will compose music for Deathly Hallows: Part II, but we will update with further information when it is released.
  • bad news about desplat. he's brilliant, but as many have said before, in doing the "new moon" music, he chose not to even listen to carter burwell's score. chances are, he's already heard at least some of the HP scores, but if this film does not include some version of "hedwig's theme" i'm going to be PISSED.

i don't understand what the issue is with john williams. he wants to do it and he's the greatest composer of our time. seems like an obvious choice to me. i'm just hoping he isn't doing part 1 because of "tintin" but is coming back for part 2. i'm just going to keep telling myself that until they tell me danny elfman is doing it. please, god, no. though, THAT would be preferable to nicholas hooper and his score of recycled music. hey, nick, you can't just take some of the work you did in the last one and drop it in HBP- it's LAZY.
  • i would like to see in titles names of J. Williams and H. Zimmer. I don't say that other composers are bad. but only Williams and Zimmer can write truly deserving music for epic movie...

I love alexandre's work, he has marvellous pieces, like mr magorium's wonder emporium, or coco avant chanel or the girl with a pearl earring or the curious case of banjamin, the queen he is not williams but ihe is a woderful choice, i'm looking forward to listen his score.
you should listen some of his work, it's brilliant

i don't know... Everybody saying that DH1 will be the "road movie"... and all of Desplat's ost's are sweet, quit and fairy-tale... but i don't know how it will be in the "road" movie, full of action movie...
  • Has it been confirmed?
I don't know anything about it.
Desplat was one of the 3 other composers into consideration, except John Williams. That's a surprise..everyone though Williams would come back. Maybe for Part 2?
I really don't know. I guess you've got to wait for an official confirmation from Warner Bros.
I will try to learn more on Friday.

    Answering few questions..
I highly doubt Neville's grandma is included in Part 2.
The Ministry infiltration is an action sequence not similar to the 'Phoenix' one. They're still filming it but judginf from the artwork the sets are different, they have a less 'fantasy' 'feel' like the Hall of Prophecies. They're much darker, more serious and much grittier. I think you'll love the Muggleborn Registration Commission set. It's quite huge, very black in colours with an uneven and rocky ground/floor. A combination of the Atrium and Veil Chamber sets but with much less colour. The scenes that take place have a very sinister 'feel'. The Dementors chase, the escape of the Muggleborns and the skirmish in the Atrium, I think, will be interesting to watch.

I don't know much stuff about the Prince's tale. I know, though, that most memories have to do with Dumbledore and Voldemort, while the Lily ones are very few. I also know that each memory will most probably have a different colour scheme. They have started working on that stuff and I think I won't be in Leavesden during the entire shooting of these scenes.

The King Cross scene is beautiful. The artwork is amazing. I really hope it will be shot that exact way. I don't want to reveal much but Dumbledore is supposed to be dressed in a very long white cloak. The place is covered with very soft layers of mist and white light. There are trains in the distance and the scene will, most possibly, end when Dumbledore sets off to catch the train telling Harry that it's his choice to come with him or return back to life. I hope they won't change anything. This is supposed to be one of the very last scenes to shoot and I won't be able to be on set those days.

About Desplat: Yes I've hears some scores of him (Girl with a Pearl Earring, the Queen and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and I think he's extremely talented. He definitely fits for Part 1. Half of the film is action-packed and the other half of it is extremely emotional. Part 2, with the exception of few Shell Cottage moments and the emotional part of the Battle of Hogwarts, feel more operatic and grand. He may do both. I haven't heard anything. He was just one of the composers taken into consideration. Anyway, I'll try to learn more on Friday when I return to Leavesden.

    Alexandre Desplat is a genious!!

Sorry I´m extremely obsessed with DH PT1.
Do you think the scene of Hogsmeade is important in the first film? I could be changed?

    2. Does Tonks have a new look in the movies?
    3. What will the new/unseen Horcruxes look like: Slytherin's real locket and Huffelpuff's cup.
    4. What can we expect from the design of Gringotts interior/exterior/Lestrange's Vault?
    5. What did you mean by 'a new part of the castle behind the clock tower'? What purpose does it have? What does it look like?
    6. Could you give us a description of what the interior of Malfoy Manor/DA Room of Requirement will look like?

And, will Yaxley appear in the movies? By name? Big role?

    Thanks!!
  • Dream, thank you for answering my previous questions but I will do some more questions of fans of the site: www.clubedoslugue.com

DREAM IF YOU COME BACK, I HAVE A QUESTION.

DO YOU THINK THAT THESE MOVIES ARE GOING TO TURN OUT AS SOME OF THE GREATEST-OF-ALL-TIME, WILL THEY BE OSCAR-WORTHY?
    image
  • @Godric Gryffindor

GOOD QUESTION! I have been thinking about that a lot! DREAM WILL DH BE OSCAR-WORTHY? Any nominations for the actors?
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

  • I don't know if the films are going to be Oscar-worthy or not but they're trying to make both films the best of the series.
I think anyone would love Oscar nominations for a great variety of categories but I think we all have to wait and see the final product.

I am sorry for the delay.
I don't know that much about the filming. I know they are about to wrap some final tidbits of the Ministry of Magic Infiltration. 90-95% of the sequence has been filmed, most of it in January, 2010. I think it will turn out to be a quite spectacular scene. It will have the political 'feel' let's say. Three spies have invaded the Ministry and they try not to be found and get the Horcrux Locket. I think it will be different and good.

They haven't wrapped the shooting for the Gringotts scenes. I think they wrap sometime in late February/early-mid March. Personally I think this will be a truly epic action set-piece.

The Battle of Hogwarts shooting won't wrap until late May 2010. They're filming tidbits every single day. There was a sequence where Voldemort and his gigantic army of Death Eaters and Dementors invade the Hogwarts Grounds. That will look brilliant on screen. It's the beginning of the first part of the battle. I think the imagery will be spectacular.

I have to mention that Part 1 hasn't wrapped shooting yet. Except for the little things left to shoot for all Ministry of Magic scenes, they've got few Hogwarts stuff and landscape shooting to do. But I think 95-97% of the film has been shot. I think you can expect a trailer sometime around the end of spring. Oh and expect a poster quite soon as well.

Furthermore, a great deal of battle scenes will be completely CGI. There are many scenes where there are epic shots of the two sides fighting in various parts of the castle and its grounds. But you know, no one can actually tell how the battle will look like. They started the shooting in October and will wrap in May. 8 months shooting it (along with many other scenes as well). So when we're talking about pure action scenes, they will spend 5-6 months shooting it. I think that does sound promising. They want to give it a real 'war' feel, make it the ultimate moment, the moment all people have been waiting for.

Other scenes recently shot (from what I know): McGonagall in the Great Hall Courtyard, Voldemort and his Death Eaters penetrating the gates and perimeter walls of Hogwarts, Harry's walk at the grounds of Hogwarts where he sees dead bodies and the wrecks of the castle, Nagini's beheading, the duel with Umbridge and Death Eaters at the Ministry, some final touches on a pivotal 'near the lake' scene and various crowd battle scenes at Hogwarts.

Thanks dram_silently but can you answer this questions:

1)Why is the Spinner´s End in the movie? Is it for Snape memories or other scenes?
2)What visions of Harry about Voldemort we will able to see?

Can you describe (as most as you can) the scenes of Harry and Hermione arriving at Godric´s Hollow until they escape from Voldemort?

In what scene they see the silver doe before it appear in the return of Ron?

Can you describe (as most as you can) the wedding scene?

    Thank you

There are some rumors about the first TV-spot on Super Bowl 2010 on 7 February.Do you know something about it?

Thanks Silent so much! The battle seems too epic to describe!

Yes, can you comfirm we will be seeing a DH TV spot during the Super Bowl?
  • I don't know anything about a TV spot. It would be a pleasant surprise I think.

Well the battle is going to be epic. But it's so chaotic on set. Last week, if I remember correctly, they were shooting a 'crowd' scene with around 200 cast members at the Grounds of Hogwarts. It was chaotic. And what makes it even more difficult is the fact that they use green screens in all sets. So it's extremely tough for everyone to create this sort of scene.

I haven't seen anything new about Tonks. The only thing I've seen is a new coat of her, which is dark brown with hints of purple.
Scrimgeour reminds me of Sirius Black in Order of the Phoenix. Though much more 'polished' yet older than Sirius.
The Gringotts interior is going to be amazing. Reminiscent of the Moria sequence in Lord of the Rings. Gigantic caverns, lots of pathways, waterfalls, dragons breathing fire, hundreds of gritty Goblins. I can't can't wait to see this scene as well. The whole sequence will be really big (around 15 minutes). The Cup is very small and gold, while the Locket is a much greater version of the fake one. It also has emerald gems and silver on it.
They've built few new towers and bridges, only to 'destroy' them in the battle. They've also expanded the grounds much further because they need more battlefields for the exterior confrontations.
I won't tell you anything about the Malfoy Manor. But it's a chilling miniature of the Hogwarts Castle. It has these small towers and those grand entrance hall and living room sets.
I don't know anything about Yaxley, sorry.

    The Best Wizard,
I think the Spinner's End set is used in both films. I know it's supposed to be included in Snape's memories yes.
Well Harry will see a great deal of Voldemort's journey. Torturing Ollivander, torturing the Death Eaters, killing Goblins, going to the places where he has hidden the horcruxes, searching for Gregorovitch and killing him, the Elder Wand scene, the scene at Gellert's prisons etc. We'll get to see a lot of scenes where Voldemort is trying to find the Elder Wand as well as lots of scenes with Death Eaters, the Malfoy Family and Snape at Hogwarts. It will be very interesting I think, because it will be a totally different perspective.
I know Harry sees the Silver Doe before they go to Godric's Hollow.
Well there is supposed to be a walk in the village and then there's the graveyard scene leading to the two of them seeing the Potters house and going to Bathilda's place. This is a sequence I can't wait to see as well. Imagine a village covered in snow with Muggles celebrating Christmas in pubs and taverns. The scene at the graveyard will be amazing. And the entire build-up to Nagini's attack and Voldemort's appearance will be quite great as well. I truly can't wait to see the entire sequence myself.
The Wedding scene was another difficult scene to shoot because of the crowd needed for them. I don't know that much about that but I know we see Aunt Muriel and Elphias Doge, we see Madam Maxime and Viktor Krum, as well as Dobby. Hermione shares a moment with Krum which makes Ron jealous. Harry is mostly outside the wedding tent because the Order is protecting the grounds. Then the Death Eaters attack and a battle erupts leading to the Trio's apparition.

  • Well I'm trying to share as much as possible. :)

Of course I will never reveal few stuff because they should not be spoiled.
The only thing that I learnt recently and confused me a bit was the fact that Part 1 will last only 2 hours. Well I hope that's not the case, to be honest.
  • HogwartSiteHogwartSite Posts: 630 ✭✭✭
why only 2 hours ?.... you can say that the film will be shorter or exceeds the order of the phoenix?
  • Well what has been shot would truly make a 160/170-minute film.We all know they'll cut few stuff but making an 120-minute film is strange. I hope it's just a rumour.
  • HogwartSiteHogwartSite Posts: 630 ✭✭✭
