Not at all DH - Simply breathtaking... HBP - Captured the magnitude of the chaos in the Wizarding World without a single world... ... ... ... ... OOTP - DEH!!
Still, it isn't the worst opening, and it's not "deh" either. The first three films opened on Harry in boring, bland and uninspiring ways. At least Yates did it in a creative and emotional way. GOF opening was thrilling and dark. HBP's was exciting and sublime. DH1's was nostalgic and beautiful.
Okay, well that's fine. I thought it was a steaming pile of shit, but we all have our opinions.
This. The First films opening sequence was classic. I don't know the flip you're smoking but everything in SS was great. It's the first film and it's nostalgic and amazing.

Yates gave us two amazing openings with HBP an DH1, which imo shows his growing confidence as a filmaker. I just didn't care for that particular opening.

But the opening wasn't artistic in any way.
I don't give if it wasn't "artistic". It was the opening sequence of Harry Potter. The first scene of what would become the biggest saga in history. That is artistic enough for me...
well given how poorly some people thinks yates handles action scenes (ive heard more complaints than i can count) i really dont see how you guys (the ones who complain about the battle in the ministry) can be so excited about the battle of hogwarts. because obviously if you didnt like the action scenes in any of the previous installments then battle of hogwarts has to be more of the same. i guarntee you after the movie is out the complaints will start.
For me POA had the worst beginning. It was cheesy and didn't make any sense. Your not suppost to do magic outside of school and look what Harry was doing. I know everyone is going to say, "Oh it's a small, unthreating spell." It doesn't matter, he still was using magic. That's why Harry used a flashlight in the book to do his homework.
Actually, the OoTP book suggests that Lumos might not entirely count because Harry uses it and doesn't get in trouble for that spell.
:-)) It's one of my favourites, but that's the only thing that bothers me about it. That and the abysmal opening. "Where's your mum, Potter? She dead?" and don't forget the classic "Who's Cedric, your boyfriend?" LIKE WTF KIND OF WRITING IS THAT? COUPLED WITH THE ATROCIOUS DELIVERY BY MELLING, WELL, I THINK WE MAY JUST HAVE THE WORST OPENING EVER. But yeah, good film.
That part is almost verbatim from the book. I just read it the other day.
Yes, I know. But it doesn't make it any less terrible. Thanks anyway.
Truthfully, I don't give a crap what people think of David Yates' adaptions. I think he is the best thing to happen to the Harry Potter film series. There is something about his films that make me so happy. I love them so much and wouldn't want them any other way. TEAM DAVID YATES!
Sorry, but Yates is NOT the best thing, David Heyman is.

I actually agree with that. Why ? Because Heyman was the one who chose Yates to direct the films way back in 2004.
You shouldn't for that particular reason. Because without him... we wouldn't even have this film series, so to an extent, you're saying that Yates is the one responsible for getting this up and running in the big time... and that is very sad, truly, because you're now discarding the real person to be thankful of, and giving Yates all the credit, am i right? Either that, or you were trying out a new joke, lol!

Lord Stafford.
No. I didn't say that was the ONLY reason why I'm grateful to Heyman. It's part of it, yes, but not the only reason. And I firmly believe that Yates is one of the best things to happen to the series as HJP pointed out.
Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but if he is certainly one of them, which he is... then so are all the other directors, especially Columbus, since it was his vision of Hogwarts that gave the new one's the oppurtunity to follow on from his own make.
Thing's that absolutely MUST be in their (but not necessarily are going to be) are as follows, without a doubt in my mind:
Potter's death scene flashback. The Invisibility Cloak. A done in proper justice... The Prince's Tale and King's Cross station. (both in with Dumbledore and the epilogue) The return of no nose Voldy, instead of the stump from DH Part 1 and OOTP. The speech bit of the final confrontation between Voldy and Harry. Voldy being killed, not by Harry... but by his ownership of the wand. Harry in Dumbledores office for the final time to repair his former wand and have a little emotional chat. Ron and Hermione on the same broom. An actual good kiss between them, a change from the lacklustre ones in OOTP and HBP. Blood in SS's death scene. NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH! But not turned into comedy by Yates and Kloves. A long battle... hence, us relying on Day, oh god. Snape vs Minerva. Snapes speech. And him jumping out of the window. Ron needs to lose his full of botox face from the epilogue, and remove his couldn't care less face of the newest pic we got from the trio, along with, finally his... baby like scared face, Emma lost her eyebrow acting and since then, Dan has also lost his forced lines and crying, the only thing that remains from this is the HBP fake crying and the overly forced pathetic anyway line of "otherwise the bowl will remain empty... forever"
Now onto the things that will probs/possibly not make the cut:
The Potter's death. The Invisibility Cloak. Voldy to bring back his no nose. The "Why do you Live" will replace the whole verbal confrontation between Harry and Voldy, that was in the book. Just to make things simple, Voldy will probs die by Harry being more powerful. Harry won't go back to Dumbly's office, as according to the filmmakers... this will be too repetitive. R/H on the same broom. I can almost guarantee (due to the filmmakers former reputation) that Harry and Luna will NOT go to Ravenclaw's tower. Blood. Snape will NOT jump, he will merely turn into feeble smoke like all the other DE's do.
Lord Stafford.
Would love to see the full Potter flashback, but I've no idea whether they'll do it. If they do, I would want it to show continuity from what they showed in SS/PS. By all means expand on it, but don't completely re-do it.
They better have that full dialogue at Harry and Voldy's final confrontation!!! I don't really know how they avoid it, but you never know what they've got up their sleeve. But I will be absolutely furious if they meddle with the penultimate scene very much. They've already changed the location and POSSIBLY made it so that there aren't witnesses (which there must be, so I choose to believe there are people off to the side somewhere watching, or I will be disappointed), but they MUST have Harry call him "Riddle" and explain how he had made the same sacrifice for all the Hogwartians that his mother did for him, that Dumbledore was better than him, that Draco became the master of the Elder Wand and that he took it from Draco and likely has its allegience now...tell Voldy to be a man and try for some remorese! That better all be there. It sounds like they sort of fight in different areas, so I can see them having bits of the conversation at different places perhaps? Jo surely would have vetoed them making Voldy die simply because Harry was more powerful...one would hope! That was the point (or one of the main ones) of her story: Harry having "power the Dark Lord knows not" which did not refer to being good at dueling.
I also want them to go to Dumbledore's office and repair the wand before the final scene where they hold hands on the bridge. I would love to see Dumbledore nearly in tears and so happy that Harry succeeded.
I really hope for Ravenclaw Tower. My guess is they find McGonagall there and then Harry, Luna (?) and McGonagall go straight from there to the Great Hall and confront Snape as he's giving a speech. Then McGonagall will go straight up to the podium once he's been sacked rather than waste time having the Heads wake up their students and bring them to the Great Hall.
At least it's only rumors.... I don't know how else he gets the Sword, and having Griphook have a change of heart and show up with it just doesn't work (for me, anyway). I hope Jo would veto a change to that; there's just no reason to change it! Having Griphook show up with it isn't any simpler. After all, they did have Scrimgeour explain that it presents itself to any worthy Gryffindor.... [-O<
Ugh! That's got to be one of my first questions to test screeners!
Just to make it simple, as usual. Neville will have the sword beforehand and kill Nagini as she comes at him, which means Voldy won't have a small (but good) confrontation with him, or it will happen since he is apparently going to defend Ron and Hermione whilst they are running from her, down a corridor in the new added scene... all i can say for an almost certainty is he will not get the sword from the hat, they won't bother include it in the film, along with the mini confrontation between the two!
I think a lot of us would be sad to say the least if they don't use the Sorting Hat! "Sad" will be a very polite word to describe how I would feel. That was just so cool to show what a worthy Gryffindor Neville was. I know, I know, we'll see that he's cool when he kills Nagini, but I loved that the hat saw him as a worthy Gryffindor who was in need at the time. I just love how Neville's character evolved over time and that we saw the same happen to him as happened to Harry in the Chamber of Secrets.

And i agree, you're totally right... anyone disagreeing with this is stupid, everyone knows its true about what you just said!
But still, the filmmakers likely will now not deem the sorting hat effect (for lack of a better word) important enough to make the cut!
You would be right to say that you were/are pissed, i know i am going to be if it happens so...

That would be an absolute shame. How are you so certain? Do we know the description of Neville killing Nagini is from a reliable source? Or are you really just guessing there won't be time to include that small confrontation?
Edit: Never mind! I think you answered my question while I was typing! Oh well, let's hope it's not true and that the Sorting Hat will be involved.
I'm ALMOST certain because of the filmmakers past reputation for not really caring about such things like this.
Lord Stafford.
According to you the film maker don't care about anything.... Do they? Don't mean this rude. But part one was very loyal to the book and it is filmed as one, so why do you think they would leave out/change important things in part 2?
Same. I'm sure it will be. I know one thing is for sure, the BOH in the movie will be better than in the books. Like the Battles in LOTR are as hell but the movies....wow.

I don't know how they'd be able to do the Sorting Hat on fire on top of Neville part. Actually having it on fire would be too dangerous and I don't think it would look right CGI-wise. Then again, who knows.
