Ok so what if we begin with the WB gold logo at night with thunder in the back, bluish background we cut to a window at hogwarts, and snape inside putting his memories in a flask and then he feels the dark mark and as hes going down we see scenes of neville, and the gang at hogwarts when he finally goes to voldy opens the gates and voldy gets the elder wand. When he points his wand up the HP logo appears in thunder.

What do ya guys think?

It's very nice to tie together both the end of the first part and foreshadow what to come in the end of this part. Really great.

Yes, I like the part about Snape, however I wouldn't put Voldemort getting the Elder Wand before the title. If I was a director, I'd have it open just like you said (but without the Voldemort part).

We have the WB logo, then the HP logo, the camera moves through the window and we see Snape doing his memory thing and feeling his Dark Mark on his arm. Then, he exits the office and walks down the hallway before the camera pans out of a window to reveal students (including Neville and Ginny) being threatened physically and mentally by some Death Eaters in the courtyard below. We hear the faint school bell as Filch yells at the students to get to class and the camera would pan up to show the Dark Mark in the sky above Hogwarts before zooming out of a photo in the Daily Prophet which Harry is reading on the grass land outside Shell Cottage.

Good Jonny but weve seen pics transission out of the prophet too many times. If we see Snape open the gates,Voldy smiles, we cut directly to when Voldy has the wand not repeat the entire scene, then he would shoot up and the Logo appears then we back away from the logo it gets brighter and brighter until we pan down and see Harry and the gang saying lovely words to Dobby in his funeral.

I agree with the others who like the idea of Snape removing his memories before going to greet Voldemort...hinting that Snape has something to hide.

I would like for the beginning to be like this:

We follow the Hogwarts Express back to Hogwarts. On the train, students have fearful faces (like they don't want to go back to school). After following the train through various landscapes, we finally go inside the school and see the chaos and change that happened.

I would definitely love my beginning since snape would be the first to appear and like mamoun said, it ties the end of DH1 to the end of DH2 plus it gives a sense of mystery to snapes character.

I don't think that they'll reuse the entire Elder Wand scene from Part I.

But your idea with Snape in DD's office sounds great.

I just don't want them to start the film at Shell Cottage. Hogwarts?Godric's Hollow?Malfoy Manor? Dunno. They'd better open it in a very grand way.

Then a huge tracking shot of the castle with epic music. It would be awesome especially, before the castle is destroyed.

Oh when we see snape in his office,we see him look at the pensive,he closes his eyes,we see a scene of him and dumbledore speaking (he is remembering this) Dumbedlore says "you must do whats right" etc..... then snape takes otu his wand and his memories in the flask.

**Off Topic** This whole "make up your own beginning scene" thing made me think about what I'd like Part 2's style to be. I want it to feel elegant. I want it to draw away from the raw and verite sense of Part 1, and I want it to feel very operatic, grand and dynamic in terms of colouring and the dark atmosphere. I imagine the film with deep, dark reds and subtle oranges and shadows, with an intense charcoal flavour to the sky which should reflect the character's moods and situations. I want the film to include vibrant colourisation and sweeping camera movements and, overall, I hope to see an intense film, a "dark fantasy" that never loses that specific magical touch but always keeping in touch with reality. This should be emphasised in the first scene or sequence to set the tone of the film.

It will certainly be if the flashback opens it up, Shell Cottage would just be boring... and they've already showed Voldy's capture of the wand, they shouldn't really open with something made up, that would be an insult!

If this happens, then isn't that going to spoil the big reveal during the Prince's Tale about Snape actually having been on the good side all along?

well they must have some sort of CONVO im not sure yet but im sure we should see snape remember dumbledore saying something to him.....something about the memories. Or soemthing else that looks as if hes still bad but when the time comes we find out that he was good.

  • blackvenomblackvenom Posts: 3,257
Snape being serious and pensive is enough, IMO. Showing a flashback with Dumbledore would ruin the Prince's Tale. Rickman can do wonders with his facial expressions so I'd love to see a little moment with him inside DD's office.

Jonny, I agree. Didn't Yates say that Part II will feel very 'grand, epic and operatic' and that the cinematography, atmosphere and coloring of the film will be completely different to Part I? :-)

I think that the film will be similar to HBP in terms of its look and cinematography. Beautifully artistic, vibrant colors combined with washed out monochromatic matte paintings, epic sweeping landscape shots, intense grays during the daylight part of the battle to give it the feel of a 'war' (WWII feel), dream-like yellows, browns and greens throughout the Prince's Tale, etc.
  • RichardRichard Posts: 48,703 mod
yeah ootp and dh1 were similar so hbp and dh2 will be similair as well in that way :)

Yeah I see, OOTP and DH 1 = Social-realist, raw and "real" feel. HBP and DH 2 = cool, "dark" fantastical feel. God, I can't wait to see this film!!

  • blackvenomblackvenom Posts: 3,257
^Exactly! And this is why I was worried that the feel of DH1 would be way too similar to OotP (lots of blue etc. :-P )
But thank god Serra did a marvelous job.

I think that DH2 will be similar to HBP but, from Serra's style, more 'realistic' in feel. Sometimes HBP was way too 'artificial'.

I found the following concerning Part II's feel and tone:

So you’re hearkening back to your gritty days of State of Play?

"Yeah, indeed. In Harry Potter Seven, part One, very much so. But, of course, Hallows part Two brings that fantasy world back in full cinemascope. It’s full of dragons, and big wizard battles, and magic. To keep the thing interesting for me as a filmmaker, I want to serve the wonderful stories Jo has given us but I need to move it around a bit."

"A kind of melancholic, haunting first film like a chase thriller road movie. Something where you see these kids and their innocence break and then I wanted to make a bigger classic fantasy film with dragons. They’re both slightly different movies but they’re from the same book. The thing that ties them together is just linear narrative that runs through the middle but ultimately they’re two very different movies."

"Actually it’s more suited to the second movie in terms of battles, dragons, giant spiders and everything. It’ll feel like a richer experience in 3D, I think. So we really want to do it."

"I am very, very fond of Part 1, it’s much more melancholic and haunted and intense than Part 2, which is more of an action film. There’s much more spectacle and battled and dragons and things. I’m still working on Part 2. I’m excited about both of them for different reasons. I like the intimacy of Part 1, the character detail and the quieter moments in Part 1, but I’m very excited about just getting to the end of the story and the big action stuff which is quite fun for an audience?"

Part II is more of the operatic epic, featuring major battles. In fact, the final battle was omitted from Half-Blood Prince to make way for the big finish. “We all know there’s a huge battle coming in 7. We’re all looking forward to it. We’re designing and planning it at the moment. We wanted to keep our pounder dry for that really. So wait until 7 part 2.”

I think that Part II will be really grand. I mean, Yates keeps saying this.

^ Thanks for finding those quotes! It really gets me pumped when he says Part 2 is a "bigger classic fantasy film".

Why does he say "Dragons", like in plural? It's like the Gringotts dragon wont be the only one we will see featured in the movie.

I think he did that because everything else was pluralized in that sentence.

This suggests that there may be more than one dragon. During the battle, perhaps?
