I hate how simply because Yates made the movies, they are always put above Williams.

Or perhaps people genuinely prefer Hooper or Desplat? Nah, it couldn't be that.

Well, i've noticed that this is the case with all the latter stuff... and it seems that this forum is strictly 5 to 8.

  • I like 5-8's because I like the soundtracks, not because the films were made by Yates :-??

Nope. I'm a bigger fan of John Williams than David Yates. I'm a bigger fan of John Williams than Harry Potter. But the Part 2 score is heads and shoulders above the rest if you ask me.

That people might like the gentle soundtracks of Hooper and the emotional grand ones of desplat better than the blasting magical ones of Williams? You know, THEIR OPINION!!!!!!!!

You constantly say you don't attack opinions, but here you are again. Can you just accept that some like that music better than Williams? Now, I don't fully agree with some, as I have ootp at the bottom, but hey, some love it! I enjoy all the soundtracks, so if they gave it a full grading system, they might only be off by a few points you realize. There's no reason to come to that assumption at all.

For Potter, I do like Desplat better. Overall? Not for me, Williams is a legend, I just like Desplat's work on Potter better.

I am not attacking anybody, so stop jumping to conclusions. I'm just wondering how and why this is always the case. Films 1 to 4 seem to have been forgotten.

Yeah, I also disagree, but him saying that has nothing to do with Yates as I'm sure if you were to have SS on top, it wouldn't mean you think Columbus is the best. Nothing to do with directors.

You are jumping to conclusions that they put them higher because 'Yates made them' which is a false statement. So you were jumping to conclusions.

People haven't forgotten them, they just prefer Deathly Hallows soundtrack more. I know I do. CoS is just a replica of SS, so that's why it's usually near the bottom, and Ootp is more near the bottom than top for most, while GoF and SS are around the middle/top, so there's variety.

It is. A director has no effect on what the composer makes, hence, no effect on our ranking or opinions the soundtracks.
  • aaronaaron Posts: 20,950 mod
John Williams is by far the better composer. However, I find Desplat's music much more raw and as I like the later films better, it's only natural I like the later soundtracks better. There is a difference between being the best and being the favorite.

Put it this way... we were both jumping to conclusions. I've also noticed that the film counterparts of the soundtracks are very similarly placed.

Okay, extremely little. Are you going to say Columbus made the score for the first two soundtracks? No, it's Williams. Even if Columbus intervened a little, saying he wanted to hear this theme here and that there, Williams defines the score. Same with all the other scores and directors.
