Why don't you confer with Mr. Finnigan? As I recall, he has a particular proclivity for pyrotechnics.
I can bring it down!
That's the spirit, now away you go.
You do realize of course you can't keep out You-Know-Who indefinitely.
That doesn't mean we can't delay him. And his name is VOLDEMORT.

Yes it was very energetic and badass, the writing and acting here. So incredibly good.
  • I was so proud of McGonagall when she said that.
I loved her "I've always wanted to use that spell" line.

Statue dropping down looked pretty epic as well.

LOVED that dialogue! And I absolutely got chills when she brought the statues to life!
  • "If anyone here knows any knowledge of Mr. Potter's movements this evening, I invite them to step forward now"
"It seems despite your exhaustive defensive strategies, you still have a bit of a security problem, Headmaster. "

    Ginny- "Harry!"
    Ron perks up and waves.
    Harry- "Hi."
    Ginny stares at Harry.
Ron- "She doesn't see me for six months and it's like I'm Franky First Year."

Bahaha. Aww, Ron. Even when he says "That's unfortunate." after the goblin gets charred by the dragon.

I also LOVED Neville's speech when he's all broken and the sorting hat's in his hand. "It doesn't matter that Harry's Dead. People die every day." etc.

I also really enjoyed Harry and Aberforth's discussion. It SHOWED that Harry was Dumbledore's man through-and-through rather then having someone just say that he was. Good stuff.

Ah that Ron/Ginny one was quality, made me laugh, and made this woman who was sitting in the row in front giggle like a 5 year old lol.

Neville's speech was my favorite bit of dialogue. Though I will say every line Maggie Smith delivered had a lot behind it.

Neville " right then, what's the plan Harry?"
Harry " Okay, there's something we need to find, something hidden here in the castle, and it may help us defeat you know who"
    Neville "Right, what is it?"
    Harry " We don't know"
    Dean" Where is it?"
Ron " We don't know that either"
Harry "I Realise that's not mutch to go on"
Seamus "that's nothing to go on"

    And so on....:)
Bit of a cliché conversation, but I did love how it sort of broke down everyones expectations for the trio a little bit!

The funny thing about it, is that none of it actually ended up making any sense whatsoever. They cut some of Voldemort's dialogue, and thus... the 'heart' line didn't have any resonance. Even the 'But you will!' line doesn't. What does that even mean, in vain for what... his loving and caring Death Eaters?

Snape's speech in the great hall was excellent, I especially liked the little "student OR staff" aside he made, referencing of course that many members of faculty were more than discontent with his leadership.

And though I'm a sucker for Snape's pauses, I have to say, there was one word, I can't remember what - it might have been "equally", that he literally drew out for about 10 seconds and veered dangerously close to becoming self-parody.

I'm pretty sure 'To die in vain' doesn't literally mean to 'unsuccessfully die'. It means that you die without successfully completing the goal you set out to finish. I agree with you that Neville's bit about Harry's heart probably seemed like a random thing to say unless you had read the books, but the rest of it I thought was really good. He was just saying that Harry wasn't their only hope/reason for fighting, and that they weren't going to let Harry and all the others die in vain. When he said that Voldemort was going to he meant that he wasn't going to win this fight, that he was going to die a loser. He was going to die in vain.

It was probably pretty threatening to Voldemort, actually, because he thought that killing Harry was going to lead straight to an easy victory.

Haha. I remember thinking that too. I think the words 'now' and 'equally' made my eyebrow quirk. lol

It's a little deeper than that. In life or death struggles, one can die without accomplishing anything except leaving a memory of the struggle.

Some struggles go on for centuries.

To die in vain would be to die not just on the losing side, but to die on the unjust side, the side that is remembered later as a cause not worth supporting.

“Words are, in my not so humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic, capable of both inflicting injury and remedying it.” - Dumbledore

'From this day forth, you put your faith...in me.' - Voldemort

    Both of Voldemort's speeches.

'I think I've known for a while. And I think you have too.' - Harry

And everything you guys have posted. Kloves kicked it up a notch, I must say.

That first one had me thinking they might include a little of Harry using words to inflict injury on Voldemort during the final duel. It's a really very lovely line, and Gambon's delivery is perfect, don't get me wrong, but that little talk about words really does feel a little shoehorned in to that scene. I feel as if Kloves had this in one of the scripts for one of the previous movies and since it wasn't in there he thought he might as well try again.
